Hello,

Have a laptop that crashed and I need to use the repair function on the

windows install disk to get back into the system.

Have tried but I am unsure of how to do this correctly does anyone have the

exact procedures to use to accomplish this.

Thanks in advance

Drew

Actually, it's written out in detail in several articles on the net

(Google).

First off, if you haven't done so already you should back up any files you can't

afford to lose. While a

repair installation of XP should preserve your data and installed programs,

there's no guarantee. That said, take a look at these two articles for more

info.

Good luck

Unfortunately there is no was to get the files since I cannot boot the

computer a system file is corrupt. So I will just have to hope for the best

with the reinstall.

Greatly appreciated.

Re: xp professional repair

Under those circumstances, the easiest way to recover files is to take the hard

drive out of the problem computer and configure it as a slave drive in a working

system. You may have to take ownership of the files in order to gain access.
