Guest Seuss Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I have Realtek AC 97 sound card. There have been no changes to my computer except what update does BUT my sound mas disappeared. When I check it in the Realtek Audio Control Panel, I have sound. In XP control panel it says my sound card and my drivers are working fine, but no audio device. I run DXDiag and it says no sound card. But when test direct music through the Realtek Audio button I have music. I checked my hardware and the sound card is there. I searched the Microsoft Knowledge base and it offered a patch for an issue with a security update and Realtek which I ran to no avail. I am lost--does anyone have any ideas?
Guest JS Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Re: Sound issues Where did you get the Realtek drivers from, Windows Update or from the Sound Card manufacture's web site? If you used Windows Update then ditch the driver and download driver from manufacture's web site. Guest JS Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Re: Sound issues If it's a sound card, remove the drivers. Shut down the PC an remove the card. Power up and verify that Windows does not see any sound card. Power down and reinstall the sound card. Power up and when Windows identifies the new card, specify where the driver file you downloaded is on your hard disk and then let Windows install the new drivers from that location on the hard drive.. Guest Seuss Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Re: Sound issues I have a new issue--again no sound, hardware is present and working fine, nothing changed since my last post except Windows updated to SP 3. Checked everything we mentioned before and everything is switched on and says everything is working fine. BUT NO SOUND, NO Audio device found--even though it shows up in device manager??? Again, all the information in the first post is the same, except its SP3 now. Help! (Just Google it, the new RTFM.) :-) [Easy Fix] Here is an easy trick that fixes this stuff most of the time. Go into your device manager and remove the thing. Then reboot. The reboot will trigger Plug 'n Play and most of the time it fixes it. After removing it from the device manager and rebooting, if it still does fix it, try reinstalling the driver.[/Easy Fix] HTH, -T
Guest JS Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 Re: Sound issues Did you try steps as I mentioned before? Shut down the PC an remove the card. Power up and verify that Windows does not see any sound card. Power down and reinstall the sound card. Power up and when Windows identifies the new card, specify where the driver file you downloaded is on your hard disk and then let Windows install the new drivers from that location on the hard drive.. If that doesn't work see if there are new drivers available that support SP3.
