Startup timing for Network
by Guest +Bob+- 0 replies

My network car (or connection) seems to start up very late in the login process. I have a program that runs out of the key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] It needs the network. Unfortunately, it beats the network card up from a cold boot. I can see that the tray icon for the network isn't even up yet but the program has already kicked off. Is there any way to get the network startup to run earlier in the startup process? Perhaps get it to the head of the list in the misc stuff that starts up in the tray ? Thanks,

Address bar vanished in IE7
by Guest Trent SC- 4 replies

A colleague has phoned me in confusion, as the address bar in their Internet Explorer 7 has disappeared. In earlier versions of IE, I'd just tell them to right-click in the header section and select 'Address Bar' from the context-sensitive menu, but this doesn't appear in IE7. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks.

My learned friends, I have an external hard drive with a lot of data on it that I would rather not lose if I can avoid it. When I attempt to access the drive I receive the following error message: "the file or directory is corrupted or unreadable" I have tried chkdsk and it could not solve the problem. What are my options? If I have no choice but to format the drive, do I simply to this by right clicking the drive and selecting "format" Please advise -Joe

I have a computer with windows xp home sp2. When I start the computer I get an error that says disk boot failure. insert system disk and press enter. I figured out that if the xp home setup disk is in the cd tray then the system boots fine. I just let it go through the press a key to boot from cd without doin anything. It then boots normally. Why would it need the cd to boot?

Two physical hard drives: C and D. Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600 Power settings: Turn off monitor after 20 min Turn off hard discs after 25 min Sytem standby after 30 min After 20 min, the monitor does indeed go off. If I'm surfing the Web and doing nothing else, my D drive is not used. It shuts off after about 25 min. If I walk away and then pass my office about 20-25 minutes later, I hear a drive whirring faster and faster. I don't know if it's the C or D drive (or both). Not only is this annoying; it also concerns me. Just when my PC should be ready to do nothing, it's doing an awful lot. Why? -- Davi…
