I'm running windows 2000 professional. Sometime ago I noticed that the notebook refused to suspend. Further investigation revealed that the "Hibernate" tab under the control-panel power-option disapeared. I tried updating the OS with the original CD, but that didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can regain the "Hibernate" tab, without re-installing the OS?

Reinstalling Server 2000
by Guest Richard- 4 replies

Hello I have a Win 2000 server which is a Domain Controller. I might have to reinstall the OS and I need some advice on some issues to make some decisions. I understand that if I reinstall the OS and recreate users, the users id will be different from the current id. 1. How do I set it up that I will use the existing users Id? Can I save the active directory and copy to the newly created domain? 2. I am using raid 1. If I were to change both the hd, need I set up the mirror before I install or install first? If yes, is it difficult to set up? (One of the hd died on us, and could not find a similar hd replacement, advice was to upgrade both Hds) Many th…

Administrator profile corrupted?
by Guest Steven- 3 replies

A client was restarting the server. He declares that he saw an error message about something being corrupted, but he didn't catch much more then that. The system came back up but it seemed like the Administrator user profile was lost. The Desktop was back to default, opening IE brought up the old Setup Your Internet screen, applications set to start with the OS are no longer starting... It sounds to me like the Administrator user profile was lost. The weird thing though is that SQL Server won't start. There is an Administrator.bak folder in Docs and Settings. I'm not sure how long that has been there. There SQL error that keep coming up are M…

can't remove corrupted user account
by Guest jbclem- 2 replies

Both my administrator and a personal user account are corrupted. Everytime I boot up I'm in a temporary user account. I've removed the personal user account and added a new personal one(with administrator permissions). After rebooting into the new personal one, I tried to add another personal user account using the name of the corrupted one. But I get an error message saying that I can'tl add this user name because it "already has permission to use this computer". Apparently removing the user account wasn't enough. Does anyone know what I have to do to completely remove this account so that I can use the same name again? John

hi again... my previous drive label problem, I think, is related to another problem i just found: when i click on Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management i now get the error message: 'Snap-In failed to initialize - Name: System Information Extension'. also, i seem to be loosing system and application files from time to time, such as parts of MS Office which I have to re-install every other time I use any of the Office apps. I tried sfc /scannow and re-installing the support tools from the Win2000 CD. still can't get the support tools... what else can I try, I don't wand to re-install Win2000. thanks to all, Bob

I have a server that got infected by the virus W32.Virut.B and was able to clean it from all the infected files except one. The file that I cannot clean is winmgnt.exe When I run Norton on it, it finds the virus but cannot clean or quaranteen the virus and leaves it alone. I've tried to run Norton in " Safe Mode " and also in " Safe Mode with Networking " but to no avail. Thanks, Bill url:http://www.ureader.com/gp/1338-1.aspx

Hi everyone, I was browsing the web today with Firefox 3 and for some strange reason the screen went black and the computer was back at the main startup sequence like it had been turned off and then on without win2000 shutting down normally. I checked the event viewer and it said: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000035 (0x80cbb788, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: F:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini071008-01.dmp. What exactly is going on here? This does not make sense. Everything seems to be working fine. My Kaspersky firewall did detect an Intrusion.Worm.Helkern a minu…
