DxDiag freezes PC .
by Guest Nomen Nescio- 0 replies

I got an old PC from my wife's business, but the sound did not work. It just ticked about once per second. She said the sound worked fine when she had it. Then I recalled the only thing that I changed was the modem. I removed this modem (a Lucent winmodem) and hear music again. Now I had tried dxdiag before and answered 'no' to the questions did you hear a sound? out of curiosity I ran dxdiag again. Now it won't start up. I get a message DxDiag has detected that there may have been a problem accessing DirectSound the last time this program was used. And the PC seizes up: hard disk light goes out, mouse will not move, even ctrl-alt-del has no effect. It …

>>Trying 2 bypass Win2k logon password<<
by Guest CmosDriver- 2 replies

Is there a way to boot into safemode and change a password or create another account or anything similar to that?? I have a laptop that I have been given but I don't have the password to get into the account. I don't want to wipe it clean and reload another OS on here if I don't have 2 go thru all of that. I thought I was shown this a good while ago but when i try it i'm still getting a logon screen. Maybe it was another OS that this was done on, I can't remember. It's a Gateway SOLO 3500... and it's running Pro Ed. If it's NOT possible, would anyone know of any other way of getting past my lil problem here. THANX N ADVANCE. Wayne B.

VirtualBox 1.6.4 | Utilities InnoTek VirtualBox is a family of powerful x86 virtualization products for enterprise as well as home use. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software. Some of the features of VirtualBox are: * Modularity. VirtualBox has an extremely modular design with well- defined internal programming interfaces and a client/server design. This makes it easy to control it from several interfaces at once: for example, you can start a virtual machine in a typical virtual machine GUI and then control that machine from the command line, or p…

by Guest horst- 16 replies

I found that I still have a "Sandboxie" folder although I had uninstalled it. So I decided to delete it but I got a message telling that it couldn't delete a file because its name was too long. Actually there is a a .htm file whose name is 111 characters long. No way to rename, move or delete it. I got the same error when I tried to delete it in the DOS window. Any suggestion please? Thanks Horst

It also locks up the system. Went into safe mode and the window does not appear. Any help would be appreciated.

Need software to setup home network
by Guest letterman@invalid.com- 4 replies

I have a desktop computer with Win98 and a laptop with Win2000. I want to network them to share files. I dont need firewalls or anything fancy. Just want to share files over a wired connection to a Linksys switch. The switch recognises the computers, but I can not get either computer to access the files on the other. I have spend several days trying to do this manually and finally gave up. I have a fair knowledge of computers but I am not a computer geek nor do I want to be. There must be some software that will automate this whole process. Please provide a link to any software I can download. Preferable freeware. Thanks LM
