100% CPU Utilization with Web Browser
by Guest jl- 3 replies

All: Have a situation somewhat similar to other 100% CPU Utilization questions though mine seems to occur any time I run Windows Explorer now. The moment the browser starts the CPU Ute spikes to 100% and can sit there for a few minutes-thereby essentially freezing almost everything. This may have started some time back in my case and I'd initially thought is was performance degredation on my DSL line-except another machine upstairs on Vista RC1 runs like a top. Keep in mind this is Win 2K running on a PII-233 I built in Jan 1998 so it's had a long life but still? While I plan to build a new PC by end of year when another new wave of CPUs has been …

Unauthorize DHCP
by Guest Haggis- 2 replies

i have a weird problem. (win2K3 servers) I am moving dhcp fom server A to server B. i have successfully exported and imported DHCP data fom one to the other. I have authorised Server B and tried to unauthorise Server A. When i do this i get a 'Parameter in incorrect' error. A the moment i have both Serve A and Serve B as Authorised DHCP servers. One thing i notice though, when i go to the menu to 'add server' in the DHCP console from the list of DHCP servers, I see the name of the new server and the name of the old-old dhcp server prior to the current one, they have the same IP address. Maybe something weird hapened when i transferred DHCP from the older…

W2K/EX2K3 to W2K3/EX2K3
by Guest Alfred- 1 reply

I have a domain where the DCs are running Windows 2K3 but I have an Exchange member server running W2K with Exchange 2K3 Enterprise. I would like to upgrade this Exchange server so that it is running Exchange 2K3 on Win 2K3. Can someone point me to a reference guide for this? Also, should I perform a clean install of Win 2K3 first on the server and then reinstall Exchange 2K3, or should I do an inplace upgrade? I prefer clean installs, as they're, well, cleaner, but is this a more difficult path? Thanks.

Can not update Win2000
by Guest lee- 1 reply

I try to update. All goes fine until important preliminary updates begin to install then I get: "Some updates were not installed The following updates were not installed: Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 (KB842773) Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1" This is an IBM ThinkPad Laptop that hasn't been used for a while...otherwise the Win2K seems to work well. How can I fix this? Thanks, Lee G.

Logon Help Needed
by Guest Sturdy- 7 replies

Hi all, After a bout with operator head space, I have managed to make my dual-boot W2k Pro box unbootable. Now when I try to logon, the logon dialog returns after a few seconds. Oddly both OS present the same issue so it is likely related to a common cause. Here is some additional info: 1) I had re-sized partitions on physical drive 0 when this happened (using GPartEd). Somehow my old C: is now F:. The new C: is an old data drive (I:). No partitions were moved, just deleted or resized. I can boot into F: using a modified boot.ini on a boot floppy but it comes back to the logon. 2) I also resized partions on drive 1 where both OS shared a swap file. On…

Installing a W98 Modem and Driver on W2K
by Guest W. Watson- 3 replies

I put W2K on an older machine that had W98. The PC is a P3 and had a combo 3COM/USR PCI (56K DFVJ CPCI PC98) modem on it. It's part modem and part sound card. On System->Device Drivers->Modem I found a 3COM/USR 56K INT FAX and installed it. When I rebooted, I got nowhere trying to dial out. System->Device Drivers->Modem showed it was there, but not operable. I uninstalled it and decided to install from the w2k install CD (drive F:) there. The wizard got me to a point where I could specify the source of the inf file. I gave it F:, but it couldn't find anything. There seem to be about 50 and beyond inf files out there. How do I w2k device inst…

Where to put swapper file ?
by Guest flahmeshess- 4 replies

I have 2 disk. HDD1 has - C: OS - D: applications - E: data - X: temp data HDD2 has - not use - F: data - Y: temp data I created a X: drive which is at the end of 1 HDD to put but I wonder if that is the optimal place to put it. Should I put it in Y: drive which is separate from my OS ? Or should I put it in C: ? My problem now is that since I've added the HDD2 (which is 500GB), my system hangs when going to standby. I don't know if it's due to HDD2. Thanks.

I have a new Win2003 SP2 server installed. IIS with ASP.NET is the only service installed. There are 5 different domains on the server with static HTML pages. Now, we want to have some asp.net sites that will require email to be sent from them. I know I need to install the SMTP service, but can someone point me to a tutorial on how to setup the server for multiple domains to be able to send/receive email? Thanks. --
