Offline files problem
by Guest Robert Ozone- 0 replies

I have a client which has been working fine for 3-4 years, w2k server SP4 and WXP SP3 shared user folder on server mapped to user and set to enable offline. They had to replace the laptop and now whenever she creates a file in the offline folder (only when offline) it (the new file) is unable to syncronize back to the server; says access denied for the creation of the file on the server. I have turned off and back on the offline settings and I have fooled with security a little to relax it but no good. I can't figure this out, I have read many simular frustrated users online with no answer. Does any body know how to solve this one? RobertO

roaming profiles
by Guest al- 0 replies

We have about 300 users who are using windows profiles. All of the accounts are working except 2 users. When these two log in in creates their files under the documents and settings, but their desktop and favorites are empty. In another place on the c drive it creates these exact same 2 files with the data in them. Their desktop and favorites are copied to the server ok. We have checked security and delete their accounts in active directory and recreated them and it still happens. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. thanks al

Prioritize Startup
by Guest Nick- 3 replies

Hello, We have Windows 2000 SP4 pro computers that are having a problem with their wireless USB adapters. The issue is they are taking too long during startup (after user logs in) to connect to the wireless network. Therefore, logon scripts are failing and mapping drives isnt working. Is there a way to prioritize the startup of services or process (either via the startup folder or through the registry) so that it loads before other services and/or apps? Thanks.

System Clock Losing Time
by Guest BFredette@GE- 0 replies

Greetings All, I'm encountering a strange behavior I hope someone can help resolve. We have a Windows 2000 AD domain with 60+ servers. On 3 of the servers the system clock loses time at a rate of 16 hours every 10 mins a user is logged in. It seems that if no user is logged in the system time remains up-to-date. We can tell as there are no corrections indentified in the system log. The problem happens for console users as well as RDP users. I'm not sure where to look. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Brian

How do you make NTBACKUP back up open files?
by Guest BadBoy House- 4 replies

We use ntbackup to back up our server each night. Normally this works fine but since introducing a remote access solution for staff it seems that if staff leave a server based program open on their workstations the backup system doesn't back the files up. This is beginning to get problematic as some important data is being excluded from the backup. Other than trying to make sure that staff close programs is there anything else I can do to make sure that the data is backed up successfully? Is there a way of automatically closing programs at a certain time? thanks in advance.

2000 Server not accessible after dcpromo
by Guest Jeffery Rehm- 1 reply

Had a 2000 server as a domain controller and installed a 2003 server. I ran the forest and domain prep on the 2000 box, made the 2003 a domain controller and transferred all the roles to the 2003 box. DNS is currently on both machines with the 2003 box now being primary and 2000 secondary. DNS is working fine and no replication or any other errors on either box. 2003 will process logins fine and all seems well... except for one thing. Demoted the 2000 box and now I cannot access it from the 2003 box. Get network unavailable or access denied depending on what I'm doing. Can access the 2003 from the 2000 without a problem. I tried removing the 2000 bo…

Re: Language settings.........

Re: Language settings......... Pegasus, That didnt work for me. We have TS 2000 and want to do the same thing as Zeno did. I manually changed the language settings for some profiles so the language icon appears on the taskbar and the user can switch to another language. Isnt there a way to propogate this setting to all users. The language options in XP lets you apply this kind of change to all users and the default user profile. Any ideas? Max hdd size = 128Gb ?? Help!
by Guest InOverMyHead- 5 replies

I got a new WD 320 GB IDE ATA hdd, but plugging it in as second drive (drive "1") it shows up in Disk Management as "Unallocated" with size = 128 GB. Help! Should I f-disk or format it? And why does the "WELCOME TO THE WRITE SIGNATURE AND UPGRADE WIZARD" screen pop up wanting me to create a 'dynamic disk'? I'd sure like to get it installed as a 320Gb disk if that is possible. Or as partitions that total that size if I must. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Bob

USB flash drives immediately reconnect.
by Guest Imp- 0 replies

Hi all, I installed 2000, SP4, VIA Hyperion 5.12 and video driver on a MSI KT4V board. It has a KT400 chipset which isn't the most compatible bit of hardware (never got a Promise TX2 to run with decent speeds on it). The problem is that USB flash drives when disconnected are immediately connected again! Whether I choose "Stop USB mass storage device" or "unplug or eject hardware" the drive will disappear from explorer, it's LED flashes off and back on and the drive appears in explorer again. It's not just cosmetic, I can use it. I do however get the "save to unplug" message. This does not happen with USB hard disks. Google is not my friend. 8+ hour…
