by Guest Daniel Kaplan- 10 replies

Hi, Have a Win2000 machine, not much ram, 8Gbs of free HD space left. The computer's slowness has been growing and growing. I run on a regular basis: * NAV full scan (once a week) * Defrag (once a week) * and lately Ad-Aware and Spybot. It's gotten so bad that I went an ddeleted all offline content (the user of that machine was playing an AOL game alot). So today I noticed that the Recyle Bin icon showed full, but there were no items, and saying "Empty Recycle Bin" did nothing. So I went and changed the Virtual Memory size to the bare minimum, rebooted, was then able to "Empty Recycle Bin" and the icon showed ok. Reset the VM size to the…

How do i get it to allow all 11 to log on. All the attached machines are legal XP or Vista We purchased the server addition because we were told that Pro would not allow more than 10. I thought Server would TIA

How can I pop up a message from a shell command?
by Guest Robbie Hatley- 3 replies

I have a program that can open certain types of files (such as yenc-encoded data files) only from within itself, one of the reasons being that such files have no standard extension, hence the program requires the user to specify operations to be performed by clicking one of several buttons in the program's GUI, before opening the file. Hence trying to use file associations ("MyProg.exe" "%1") won't work, because the program has no idea of WHAT you want to do with the file after opening it. SO, I put a reminder line in the shell in the registry, like so: KEY: VALUE: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT .ntx (default) = "yenc_data_file" yenc…

Automatic Printing to a File Name in Windows
by Guest JimR- 1 reply

I have read the article "kbprint KB119256", in Microsoft KnowledgeBase, which explains how to setup a path and file name for a printer that basically has a FILE port type. I am wondering if it is possible to have the filename change dynamically. For example: append some sequence counter. The idea being that in a multiple-user network many users printing to the same printer would not overlay each others files. The prefix would be consistent: "\\server\path\fileXXXX.txt" where XXXX will be the result of some sequence counter generated by Windows automatically.

boot problem with mapped drives
by Guest Lorne- 3 replies

I have a W2000 SP4 machine on a peer to peer network, connected by wireless card. there are 2 mapped drives to another machine. When turned on the boot stops with a message unable to connect to a netwrork drive, do you want to connect next time? I say yes and it boots OK, then I execute a batch file that connects to the other machine (there is a password) and all is fine. However it is very annoying that the boot stops and will only complete with manual intervention. The problem is that the wireless card is not initialised early enough so when Windows tries to connect during boot the network is not available. so I ask: 1. Is it possible to chang…

Hi I have a server (Windows 2003) where a scriot is running as the System Account. The script uses some date information. This date information is retrieved as: mm/dd/yyyy (Looks like the US date format) I would like to have it as: dd/mm/yyyy (The UK date format) How can I change the regional options on the System Account ? I tried changing the administrators regional options, but that did not help because the script is running as System Account
