Riprep images are not being included in OSChooser
by Guest Bratox- 0 replies
I just installed a RIS server on Win2003. I'm able to deploy a flat image of Windows XP, however I'm not able to create a Riprep image to custom the flat image including the enterprise applications. I run Riprep from the server, the Riprep wizard finishes in the client computer and the folder structure is created in the RIS server, but when I try to setup a new client computer using that new image I'm not prompted to choose any image. RIS omits this step and installs the Flat image. I'm using the same computer for testing, so the HAL should not be the reason. Any help will be really appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Task Scheduler Services Start Error

Re: Task Scheduler Services Start Error Hi there, It has been awhile but I have had this symptom this week on my 2000 server, I also have a McAfee Firewall. After editing the firewall settings I noticed a block on my programs list for the MsTask servicee. After removing this block of this program I was successful in re-starting the service. I know it has been awhile but I hope you get this message, I often find that most people would have re-formated their hard disk and reloaded their O/S. Thanks for your post. D. How to run an anti-virus in the start-up sequence
by Guest The Doctor- 17 replies

Does anyone know how to tell Windows to run a thorough AV scan before going into GUI mode? I have a nasty Virut acc AVG and the only way to get rid of it I suspect is to catch the virus before GUI is entered. win2000 install problem
by Guest h.stroph- 20 replies
- 1.3k views
I was given a Toshiba Satellite 305CDS laptop with a 2GB disk and 32MB of memory that had a bunch of personal data on a win2000 installation, so I wiped the disk and tried to install my own licensed win2000 from CD after booting from the 4 boot floppies. At about 51% of files copied, it is unable to copy several dll files from the CD for some reason, even when I choose to skip a problem file. Is the 2GB disk too small? It formats cleanly with the NTFS filesystem and no errors, and the low-level formatter I used to wipe the disk also reported no errors. memtest86 shows no errors with any of the memory. What might be the problem with this win2000 install plea…

Is the following the correct syntax for the htm and html file associations if Firefox is in the indicted location and is the default browser? K:\PROGRA~1\HKCOMMON\MOZILL~1\FIREFOX.EXE -requestPending -osint -url "%1" The DDE Message is "%1",,0,0,,,, If I right-click, I can open with IE, or any of several other programs. Also, choosing to print or edit works. However, if I double-click or choose open, I get a message such as "Cannot find the file 'D:\whatever.htm" (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available." However, the fike DOES open. Normally, such a message means that…

Antivirus program won't let me disable automatic service
by Guest jbclem- 7 replies
Antivirus programs usually set up services(such as updating) so that they start up when Win2000 starts up and run automatically. I always stop these from running and switch them from automatic to manual. Today I updated my Avast antivirus, and it's found a way to prevent me from changing or disabling two services that it wants at startup. In other words, it's taken control of my computer away from me. Before I uninstall this arrogant program, can someone help me figure out how to undo this. What happens is that when I go into the Microsoft Management Console, and look in the Properties for either of these services, I can change the "startup type" from automati…

Trouble installing 16-bit ms-dos applications in Windows 2000 Pro
by Guest flamejob- 4 replies
Microsoft's Help and Support website states that some 16-bit applications may install and set-up successfully on some Windows 2000 equipped computers, but not on others. I followed the instructions re: clearing the "hidden" attributes on both "autoexec" and "config.sys", which is supposed to allow the changes necessary to load these applications, but I am still having problems. The pop-up message I receive reads: "16-bit Windows subsystem" - "c:\winnt\system32\autoexec.nt" - The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft applications. Choose 'close' to terminate this application." The software manufacturer has tried to help but they …

Licenses in use exceeds CALs
by Guest Ken- 1 reply
Hi All, We are running an "inherited" Win2k Server for our company networking. Recently we have noticed a significant slow down on responsiveness from client computers accessing network or internet resources. In checking, it appears we have 27 licenses used but only have a 25 CAL setup. Questions: 1. Is this possible? 2. Could this be the culprit behind the recent slowdown? 3. What would be the expected behavior if we have more people accessing network resources than we have licenses for? Thanks in advance! Ken

scheduled task can not access shared drive
by Guest powdered_toast_man- 13 replies

This is actually on a Windows 2003 server but I didn't see it among the options. I've created a batch file on server A to generate a report and copy it to a shared drive on server B. When I log onto server A and run the batch file it works; when I use the task scheduler to run the batch it fails. A coworker suggested using the unc path rather than the mapped drive letter designation but that didn't help - all that did was generate a "CMD does not support UNC paths as current directories" error message. I have a hunch that the problem is because the shared drive is not recognized unless the user physically logs onto the box. Is that the case and is t…

HP Deskjet problem
by Guest h.stroph- 8 replies
I am unable to get printing with either an HP Deskjet 1120C or a Deskjet 870Cxi with Windows 2000 SP4. The printers install successfully to LPT1, jobs get spooled then print as a couple lines of gibberish followed by one edge of the paper with similar characters. HP states the latest drivers are part of Windows 2000, but apparently they are not really functional. Can somebody walk me through the diagnostics necessary for the currently-connected 870Cxi, please? I really need a functioning printer asap, and thought I couldn't go wrong with a name-brand like HP, but have spent 4 days thrashing around with the problem to no avail. Thanks for your help.

by Guest guv- 0 replies

We have a windows 2003 64 bit server with SP2. The server keeps on crashing occassionally with the blue screen of death. It creates a Kernel memory dump in the windows directory. I have the dumpchk.exe file downloaded and try to run it to read the memory.dmp file but keep on getting the following error: Could not initialize dump file - MEMORY.DMP I have copied the dumpchk in the windows directory. Is there anything else I can do, or how do you correctly read memory dump files.

Windows can't see large disk... (but used to)...?
by Guest Kenneth- 9 replies

Howdy, I run Win 2000 Pro SP4 on one of my systems, and had in it a 250 gig Western Digital disk that failed. I replaced it with a 500 gig drive, but Windows can only see 127 gig on that disk. Here are the things I am sure of: The bios (the most recent available) sees the disk as 500 gig. The registry has the appropriate 48-Bit LBA Support for ATAPI Disk Drives. I have checked that both by simply viewing the appropriate registry key, and also by running a tool that looks in the registry to see if the key is set correctly. I have partitioned and formatted the disk. I have tried to add another partition, but (beyond the 127 gigs) there is no ext…

Networking Does Not Start After Reboot
by Guest John A. Bailo- 3 replies
We have several Windows 2000 servers on a subnet. Every weekend we do a maintenance reboot. The problem is that typically one or more servers don't connect back to the network and have to be rebooted again. They all have static IP addresses. They are on the same subnet, connected to the Internet and to another subnet via a router. Why won't the network start on reboot? Is there a way to have the server restart it's networking without a full reboot (something that I could put into a script or in the scheduler to happen five minutes after boot)? This issue has been plaguing us for years and I have never found an answer...
