Regaining EN logo on the task bar
by Guest DaffyD®- 3 replies

At startup when when the taskbar icons were loaded at restart, one of them was the EN for the Text Services language bar. I closed the language bar on the task bar and now I can't it back. I know I probably don't need it but I'd like to do the reverse of what I did. so that EN logo would load the same way the SoundMAX, Volume control speaker icon, ATI icon, D4, Zone Alarn, The Area connection speed 3, and the Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect enabled all do all at start up.What would be the registry hack for this?

Video plays 15% fast...?
by Guest Kenneth- 5 replies

Howdy, I have a Win 2000 system that I personally use infrequently. Other family members use it nearly every day. Minutes ago, I went to Youtube to play a video. It played "fast" that is, both the audio and video were playing at about 115% of their proper speed. My wife said "Oh yes, this system does that all the time..." Every video source played the same way. What might cause this sort of problem? Many thanks, -- Kenneth If you email... Please remove the "SPAMLESS."

Very slow startup
by Guest Ray K- 2 replies

Yesterday I installed W2K over ME in a friend's computer. Works okay, except boot time is well over two minutes, measured from the splash screen to the appearance of all the desktop icons. At several points, the screen is just a pure blue/green. Once, it remains that way as long as 25 seconds, with just the mouse pointer visible and a very brief one-time flashing of the hourglass, before the next dialog box appears. By contrast, my computer with the same W2K boots in about a minute. I noticed several differences between the computers. 1. In my computer, there is a WINNT directory; in her computer, it's called WINDOWS. Regardless of the name, the cont…

by Guest Ray K- 3 replies

When my friend's computer was using Windows ME, it displayed true colors (32 bits). Now that I "upgraded" it to Windows 2000 Professional, it will display only 16 colors. I don't know where to look for the driver. The system is as follows: *Motherboard *– AMD Jetway 861CS KLE133 Chipset: North Bridge VIA VT 8361 Apollo KLE133 VIA chip VT 82C686B *Display PCI/AGP Video* – Trident CyberBlade-i7 Video adapter I tried the AMD and VIA sites, but couldn't find anything for W2K. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Ray

Good Day: Yesterday, I posted a question and I received a 'notification' of a reply this morning so I clicked on the link within the message. A new window opened but it was blank-Does the cache or something need to be 'cleared?' I had to go directly to the Microsoft Discussion website, log in there, and then view my message.

Ghosting Issue
by Guest Parvardigar- 8 replies

This is very uncomplicated. I have at work here only Dell Optiplex GX1's running Windows 2000. On all the machine I ghosted from former harddrive 9GB to new harddrive 80GB. No problems. On this one machine I have ghosted in the usual fashion the 9GB to the 80GB drive. And I did this on two new fresh WD harddrives ending up with (after installing the newly Ghosted drive) this Blue Screen Stop 000000007B and so on ending with Inaccessible_Boot_Device. I've ran the Ghost several times and ending with the blue screen message. In Bios I alter the device to auto, and it is found. Bios fine. I can upon reboot launch safe, safe with networking, LKG, and so on.…

Without having to explicitly edit the Scheduled Task. how can I avoid this problem? I am the admin on this computer and I am also experienced with .Net and C#. Thanks, Barry.

XP & Vista to 2000
by Guest Information- 6 replies

Due to budget limitations, I am working with the following: We have a Win2000 workstation (SP4) that houses a database program to be accessed through a shared folder to the remainder of our stations. Station 1 is an XP Home box (SP3), Station 2 is a Vista laptop (SP1). XP and Vista can see each other, but only the XP box has a printer shared. Vista can see that, and a temporary shared test folder, We removed the folder share after seeing it worked. Neither can access the shared folder on the 2000 box. Both XP and Vista firewalls are disabled, there is no Norton or McAfee installed, only AVG. I have added the user/passwords to the user list on the 2000 ma…

by Guest Haggis- 13 replies

I have an odd issue. the scenario is this. i have a server (A) connected to a UPS that is set to run a batch file when the battery power gets to some predetermined level. THis batch file is a remote shutdown command to bring down the another server (B) connected to the UPS. As part of the test i send a command line email before and after the remote shutdown command so that i know that it has run. Now the remote shutdown command runs properly when i test it on the Server (A) and both emails are sent. When i test it on the UPS, the emails are sent but the remote shutdown command fails. I cannot understand why, it is obvious that the command is running bu…

Net Framework Initialization Error
by Guest ms- 9 replies

Awhile ago, when Net. 1.1 started to be used for utility installs, I installed Net. 1.1. I no longer use Net-required utilities. This AM, I uninstalled Net 1.1. I used Revo Uninstaller, removed leftover debris from registry. On reboot, now I see a screen: Net Framework Initialization Error, to resolve this install Net.1.1... The screen requires Cancel to continue to load windows. I will not reinstall Net, the invasive nature of Net utilities is why I avoid them. How to remove the screen? It apparently did not uninstall cleanly and Revo did not remove all of it. ms

Unable to Remote Desktop to Windows 2003 Server
by Guest mtj7009- 9 replies

All of a sudden, we are unable to RDP to a Windows 2003 Server. It could possible be a windows update that caused the issue but not sure which one. I have run Wireshark to make sure that tcp port 3389 traffic is hitting the server and it is. On the client it says unable to connect to RDP. Short of rebuilding the server are there any options or troubleshooting steps i should take? Windows Server 2003 SP2. Firewall is off completely. Thanks

Good Day: Every 3rd time I attempt to open the 'Add/Remove' programs screen, it freezes. When I try to 'close' it, an error message says 'Error: This page cannot be closed. If it is being debugged, please resume it or close the debugger first.' Any ideas?
