by Guest guv- 6 replies

I have a windows 2000 server which I want to upgrade to windows 2003. I put in a window 2003 R2 CD 1 into the server. but then I get a message that windows 2000 cannot be upgraded to windows 2003 standard. Its a normal windows 2000 server not a windows 2000 advanced server. I put in a windows 2003 r2 enterprise CD and then I get an option to upgrade. Can you upgrade to windows 2003 standard?

Windows Installer 3.1 - won't Start
by Guest 360freq- 4 replies

hello, I am new to the forums. I've spent weeks online looking for an answer.. to no avail and I now truly need some input. home System: Win2000 SP4 ... Local Computer (no Administration) I just purchased a new HP Printer. the HP setup software requires the "Windows Installer 3.1" (v2 KB893803). I believe it's listed as "MSIServer" under Services. this recent version installed fine.. but all is not well. I guess certain applications with an executable of .MSI need to have this service for the software to install. (this also means I can't run .NET Framework 2.0 and other apps etc..) whether it's set to Manual or Automatic, the Windows Inst…

Event ID 16 SOAP error
by Guest MAdrox- 2 replies

I'm getting this error across a dozen front end win2k sp4 web servers at random times throughout the day. It puts 4 event id 16 errors in the app event log. Just to be sure I've isolated 3 web servers to their own GB switch to make sure it wasn't connectivity issues and that didn't do anything. We also have the SOAP 3.0 loaded as well... Here are the errors: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSSOAP Event Category: Generic Event ID: 16 Date: 11/13/2007 Time: 11:14:07 AM User: N/A Computer: WEB24 Description: Soap error: Connection time out.. Installing Win2k on brand new drive
by Guest Davet102- 4 replies
Several months ago I had a major drive failure. (Unrecoverable) Bought a new computer. Now I have purchased a new drive for the old computer. It is a 250G drive. During the install from the Win2k drive I cannot figure out where I can bust up the drive into the 2 partisions (drives). Is there a way to do this during the reinstall?? If not how would I get this accomplished? Right now it shows the drive as only 131069MB (131G) Help. Thanks Bob

Event Viewer Errors
by Guest Sid Elbow- 6 replies
I'm getting a couple of persistent event viewer errors lately: An application error: " WMI ADAP was unable to load the ASP.NET_2.0.50727 performance library because it returned invalid data: 0x0 " A system error: " The ASInsHelp service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified. " I don't know if these two are related (I suspect not because the first has been going on for much longer than the second). I haven't noticed anything untoward with the system operation, but can anyone shed any light on these, whether they are critical and how I might avoid them?

Win2k shutdown from keyboard - can I prevent this?
by Guest George Orwell- 5 replies
When I shutdown Windows 2000 from the start menu, it spends ages shutting down. However, if I press the "Power" key on the keyboards, I see a little alert box saying Windows is shutting down for half a second, the power snuffs out. Yet when I reboot, I don't get scandisk running, as I would expect from such a rapid ending. So is it okay to kill Windows by the keyboard? But I wish to disable the Power key on the keyboard. I went to control panel, and can't find anything under the power or keyboard options. % Privileged Time is the percentage of non-idle processor time spent in privileged mode. (Privileged mode is a processing mode designed for operating system components and hardware-manipulating drivers. It allows direct access to hardware and all memory. The alternative, user mode, is a restricted processing mode designed for applications, environment subsystems, and integral subsystems. The operating system switches application threads to privileged mode to access operating system services). % Privileged Time includes time servicing interrupts and DPCs. A high rate of privileged time might be attributable to a large number of interrupts generated by a faili…

Terminate running program from .bat file?
by Guest Sid Elbow- 3 replies
I have a keyboard macro program that I have running in the background. Unfortunately, it has some hotkeys that clash with a cad program that I use. Usually (when I remember), I shut down the keyboard program before running the cad but since the cad program is started from a .bat file I wondered whether there was a way to terminate the keyboard program from within that .bat file.

Folder locked as Read Only
by Guest Danno- 11 replies

Somehow I've gotten my Program Files folder marked as Read Only. This of course prevents me from updating data files, or deleting anything under PF. I tried using the properties tab to uncheck RO, but that didn't work. Tried the same thing in safe mode, but it didn't work either. I restored the registry to a time before the problem using ERDNT, but it didn't work either. I tried changing the attributes using CMD, and I booted up in Command mode only. Neither one would let me change the attribute. HELP! Thanks in advance, Dan Hacker W2000ProSP4 -- ----------- Thousands of years ago cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never forgott…

Upgrading windows 2000 forest to windows 2003
by Guest guv- 0 replies

I am looking into upgrading our windows 2000 domain and forest to windows 2003 native domain and forest. We have 2 windows 2000 domains, I have run the adprep command in our root domain. I have other questions regarding our servers: 1. We have 1 windows 2000 domain controller. Its also a windows 2000 TS licensing server and a DNS server. I want to demote this server by using dcpromo as I dont want to upgrade this to a wiindows 2003 domain controller, I want to leave it as standard windows 2000 server. The question is, is there any issues with demoting a DC. Also once demoted will it still run as a DNS server and a terminal licensing server. We h…

Hi There, Since couple of days i have noticed that my system which is running windows 2000 Pro SP4 is running on 98% - 100% cpu usage. And the cause is the winmgmt.exe which is unable to stop by windows. It is creating a lot of problems iam not able to install anything new on the system. I have tired it by disabling the winmgmt serivce but the result is the same not able to install anything on my system. So anyone have any solution about how to fix winmgmt.exe's problem??
