File Synch won't stop for deleted profile
by Guest JPW5345- 0 replies
My Windows XP notebook at one time had a user profile of UserA. He has been deleted. I have gone into Offline Folders and manually deleted any and all files related to him. When my machine synchs when connected to the network, it synchs my local files to my home directory on a Windows2k server. This is good. However, it continues to synch UserA's files to his home directory. I have enven hacked my laptop registery to delete references to Usera. What reference to him might remain on my laptop? How do I stop it from synching with his home directory? -- Thank you. John

We recently had our ISP change us from one server to another which necessitated email setting changes. Our new server requires email authentication. Outlook Express is working fine with the new settings; however, we have another technical software program which sends emails when certain conditions occur. It is now not working. I believe it does not support email authentication. Is there any way around this? Please help! EggHeadCafe - .NET Developer Portal of Choice http://www.eggheadcafe.com

Windows XP SP2 DSP
by Guest Ian D Samson- 2 replies

This isn't really a Windows 2000 Pro support call, so the engineers can't charge me R249+VAT just to ask a question about Windows XP Professional DSP - whatever DSP means. At the end of March 2008, I will be needing to purchase 2 Windows XP Professional CDs to upgrade firstly my Windows 2000 Professional SP4 computer, and secondly my Windows XP Home computer, so that we are all on the same page. What I need to know is what my software supplier cannot tell me. That is, if I purchase two Windows XP Professional CDs, will I have to reformat the hard drives in both machines? Since Windows 2000 Pro SP4 is already NTFS and Windows XP Home is also NTFS, surely inst…

OUTLOOK as a default browser when its open
by Guest WindowsServerAvatar- 1 reply

Hello All - I recall some time ago coming across the shortcut-key sequence to open a link in an email message to be viewed inside the OUTLOOK browser. Since using XP more to support some customers who do, I cannot remember nor find any reference to the way this is done in the Office XP environment. Any help you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated, and I thank-you in advance for it.

"Network" icon
by Guest Robert Baer- 14 replies

I have two seperate hard drives, each being configured seperately at widely different times. To close a number of ports, GRC suggests to use the Network icon and re-configure bindings to a certain indicted form. As a point of reference, i did that on 2 yet different HDs with Win98SE and the procedure worked very well. But this is not possible (yet) on either Win2K HD, as the Network icon does not exist and i do not know how to fix that. Help?

Formatting CDs
by Guest Joe McGuire- 4 replies

I am trying to copy files from my Win2000 desktop to CD, but all the brand new CDs I install are not recognized. The CD drive will read CDs with data on them, so that much of the device seems to work. How can I format the CDs so they will be recognized? I'm not sure if there is a dumber question, but I have wasted the better part of an hour trying to find the answer, to no avail, and my colleagues have ordered me out of the building since I was yelling at the computer so much. Help!

Operating System: Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4 RAM is now 512MB Okay, I receive a Error Message stating that "There is not enough memory to run Word" so I took the computer in to have more RAM installed. Increased it from 128MB to 512MB by removing old 128MB card and installed 2 - 256MB cards for a new total of 512MB. Tried to open Word and received the same Error message. The computer shop told me to un-install Office and then re-install. The un-installed seemed to work fine, but now when I try to install Office 2002, I just get a quick flash of the Windows Installer and then absolutely nothing happens. I then tried to download nad install the Windows …

On doing research on hard drive image software for our Win2k Server, I became aware of Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS). I note that VSS is not mentioned in conjunction with Win2k Server. Therefore I assume that Win2k Server does not have this service, correct?

Loading Personal Settings - Hangs - 2003 Server
by Guest baltinos@hotmail.com- 0 replies

I attempted to update my 2003 server with the 2 latest '.NET' updates. During installation it froze. I had no option but to power down the server. When the server restarted it hangs at "loading personal setting" and remains there for good. The server has DNS, IIS and and Exchange Server. Other computers on the network can easily access the website on the server but cannot use outlook web access. I can pop the mail accounts using Outlook Express on a pc on the network. DNS is also degraded in performance and I cannot access the server using Remote Desktop. The server can be pinged from any other computer on the network and response time is excellent…

SNMP group policy update problem
by Guest Daveyji- 0 replies
Hi I have an ongoing problem which makes no sense to me. SNMP group policy updates occur every 90 minutes on a particular OU containing a number of servers. After a number of days have passed, usually a week or more SNMP security no longer allows access from a particular IP Address which is the machine we use for monitoring. Restarting the SNMP service fixes the problem for another week or two. I cannot find any changes that have been made by the update and do not understand why it works most of the time. DOes anyone have any ideas? Thanks Dave

Strange Case of the Disappearing Partition.
by Guest Sid Elbow- 6 replies

My second IDE HD (160 GB) has but two (primary) partitions (both NTFS): DATA ... 8 GB BIGSPACE ... the remainder (EnableBigLBA is set) It's been running happily for a couple of years until yesterday or today when the BIGSPACE partition disappeared. In Disk-Manager it just showed up as "unallocated" space. The data on it wasn't especially crucial (and in any case I recovered about 90% of it with a file recovery program) so I thought ho-hum and proceeded to recreate and format the partition. This went fine, the partition was created with no reported errors. Then I rebooted and the partition was gone again! I've tried creating the partition both …

How to add licenses
by Guest Andreas Moroder- 0 replies
Hello, on our windows 2000 terminal server we get the error message "..is nearing maximum number of per server licenses purchased" The TS CALs are ok, but we have not enough Server CALs installed. This machine is in a samba domain, so when I try to add licences through the license manager it tells me that it can not find a service on our PDC. I tried to add licenses ( we bought them ) in "control Panel"/licenses but this does not work. Can anyone tell me how I can add this licenses ? IS it necessary to detach the machine from the domain add the lics and then reattach ? Thanks Andreas
