RECOVER DLL FROM ORIGINAL DISK
by Guest JL- 1 reply

When I start add/remove programs from control panel, I get the error: object does not support this property or method, res.//sp3res/default.hta, line 82. I was told to check validity of mshtml.dll. Mine has a date time stamp of 12/10/0712:38 pm and a size of 2,642 KB. I run version 5 build 2195 service pack 4. Is this correct? If not, how do I get my original from the install disk? If so, any other ideas?

Best procedure/soft for backup of entire drive ?
by Guest Spendius- 3 replies

Hello, I'm looking for a backup software that would enable me to do the following in case of hard disk crash: 1/ boot from a CD containing the backup/restore program and a USB driver, 2/ plug an external USB disk containing the image of my crashed hard drive, 3/ then find this image from my CD, and restore it to a brand new internal hard disk. To sum up: I'm looking for a small software, allowing me to install it on a CD to boot from, on which I'll put a USB driver as well, to access an external USB disk containing my backups... I'd like to be able to backup an entire drive, whatever the filesystems (NTFS...) existing on them... Are there free…

My computer sometimes freezes coming out of standby.
by Guest Robbie Hatley- 0 replies

Greetings, group. I've been experiencing an annoying problem with my Windows 2000: I usually put my computer in "Standby" mode at night to kill fan and disk noise without wiping out contents of RAM. I prefer standby over shut-down because the computer can be shut-down and re-started MUCH faster that way. (About 2 seconds to shut down and 10 seconds to start up, as opposed to several minutes for each if I use shut-down.) The problem is, sometimes (about 20% of the time) when I push the "On" button to come out of standby mode, the computer freezes. The video doesn't come on (the monitor pilot light stays orange instead of going green), and the system doesn't …

Unlocking Locked Computer
by Guest Chad Guiney- 4 replies

I have a problem with users not being able to unlock a computer locked by someone else. We have CAP regulations that state we must have a screensaver screen lock on every computer in our lab. However when someone walks away from that computer and someone else needs to use it they cannot unlock the previous user becuase they are not admin. The users of these computers are not allowed to have local admin access to the computer becuase of the same CAP regulations. Is there a way around this? Without making everyone local admin? Thanks in advance.

missing pagefile.sys

On reboot yesterday, the first in some weeks, Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP4 encountered the subject: error exactly as described in http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315270 Efforts to follow the remedy stated are meeting difficulties. The pagefile is indeed defined and of size 800-1000 MB , the computer name is "w2k2." as it's been since inception several years ago. The difficulty starts in Step 3-f, as we don't have a "Computer Name" tab in the System Properties dialog, but it's possible to rationalize using the "Network Identification" tab instead, as it's the only possibility that makes sense. The larger difficulty comes in step 4, as there is no "File menu"…

*** VIRUS WARNING!!! ***
by Guest Terry Mester- 10 replies

I have discovered how Spammers are able to access people's Computers to spew out their Spyware garbage, and it is Microsoft's OS which has made this possible! Spammers utilize two commands: the "nslookup" Command and the "ftp" Command found in c:\winnt\system32 -- which you can review in the Windows Help Menu. Spammers can also use a HTML E-Mail you open on your Computer while logged onto the Internet to download a Virus. Those E-Mails you get from friends telling you to forward it on to others, in order to get good luck or money, are nothing but a SCAM perpetrated by the Spammers! DELETE those E-Mails -- DO NOT open them!!! Last month after separat…

Changing the Windows Explorer View to 'List' from 'icons'
by Guest adrianr- 0 replies

Hello, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003 AD Domain in Windows 2000 mode. I've written a script that changes the windows explorer view to 'list'. It works by writing values to the 'Streams' key in HKCU and seems to work fine when I run this as an administrator. However, when I login as a non-administrator, the view is still 'icons'. I have written a second script to interrogate the registry to verify that the changes that I made had been written successfully - they had. Given that the non-administrator user has group policy settings applied to them, would this be the reason why my registry changes are not taking effect? As far as I can…

Hello to all, Reading this group I was redirected to Microsoft Website where I read a Knowledge Base which apply restrictions using gpedit or mmc to all users but to admins in Win2003 Server, printed it and tried to apply in Win2000 SP4 pc's but to no avail, Microsoft article (I think is 325351) states work only for Win2003 Server Enterprise and Standard edition. Could be possible a related article or KB or work-around might work in Win2000 SP4??? if so, would you please point me in the right direction?? need to apply this in a network I admin with over 50 pc's with Win2000 SP4. Thanks in advance, JR.

background won't stick
by Guest IT wanna be- 2 replies

I have read the various posts on this issue but none fits exactly. Computer is operating on Windows XP connected to a server with full admin rights to the local machine. If we change the background it sticks for a while but then changes by itself and sort of tiles the image, but not exactly. It divides the large full screen picture and puts the bottom right corner of the picture in the top left corner of the screen and the top left part of the picture in the lower right corner of the machine. For example we put the coffee bean back ground on and it does fine for a while and later it will have the moon back ground image, divided as desribed above. I loo…
