Scheduled task question
by Guest Mark1- 1 reply
I have a scheduled task set up to run the following every weekday morning at 9am: NET SEND MYPCNAME "Don't forget to run the Daily Report" It works great as long as I don't ever turn my PC off. If I turn it off, say for the weekend, the task will not run on Monday (even if the computer is back on before 9am) and the task status says "Could not start". I know that you may be asking, "Why not just do an Outlook reminder?", but my company uses Groupwise, not Outlook.

Hi All, I applied some restrictions via Local Group Policy to a pc with Windows 2000 SP4 and Internet Explorer 6.0 Sp1. I have an intranet application that need to open a new page of IE when the user click a button on this application, but when they do it, they receive the message: "The operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." Ok, I'm the system administration and I really don't know what is the exact setting that is preventing the user to use the application. I tried to disable the User Configuration part of the Local Policy and it works so I think the problem is there, but…

Can I filter items in Start Menu Documents list?
by Guest Clueless in Seattle- 0 replies
The Documents list on the Windows 2000 Start Menu is quite a handy way to access the files I use often. But the problem is that when I play MP3s, each MP3 ends up on that list, and soon the MP3s have crowded out all of my useful files. Is there a way I can tell Windows to ignore my music files when I play them and to not add them to the Documents list? Will in Seattle a.k.a. "Clueless"

I faced a situation a few days ago with an user. The user has Windows 2000 Professional in English SP4. And his computer is a Laptop and I activated a few years ago the offline files so He will able to syncronize his user data with the File and Print Server, Server with OS in Windows 2000 Server English Last Service Pack. Anyway that server has been reinstalled and it had changed its name server. So the user were storaging the network offline files into a no exist path, now I changed the path for the right one, however the user is reporting just he could not see the most of his files that he manipulated before. DCOM error. The Diskeeper Module DkService.exe has reported the error "The remote procedure call failed and did not execute. Hi Folks; I have Diskeeper installed on Windows 2000 AdvSrvr. Whenever it defrags the system I get this error; DCOM error. The Diskeeper Module DkService.exe has reported the error "The remote procedure call failed and did not execute."(0x800706bf) while calling SetData on clsid {00130608-0000-0000-0002-000001000000} This error occurs on any Windows 2000 Server I install the program on. I realize that this is actually a Diskeeper problem but if anyone could help me resolve it I would be eternally grateful. Thanks! Dave

Drive 1 not found
by Guest Bill Watt- 2 replies

PIII 1.O GB. Dell Win 2000. It's my daughter's machine. Suddenly when booting they got the message: No hard drives found. Hit F1 to continue, F2 for Setup. Hitting F1 just returned the same message. In the BIOS Drive 0 and 1 were set to OFF. I tried to set them to AUTO but they reverted back right away. In the BIOS I removed DMA then tried it. No immediate help. Finally, the message said only secondary drive 1 not found, hitting F1 booted normally. I restored DMA and it continued to boot normally after hitting F1. Windows Explorer sees both drives normally and they can be accessed as usual. That's where I'm at, boot stops until F1 is used. …

IIS 5.0 W3Svc will not start eventids 202 116 7023
by Guest RM-admin- 4 replies

I have a single Windows 2000 Server in a small domain. The local Intranet site is hosted off of this Server with IIS 5.0. The server is updated to SP4 with all security patches. The IIS service sometimes starts after reboot but the admin page is inaccessible as is the IIS Admin mmc. I am not sure but it seems to be an issue with the registry or metabase. I have resinstalled IIS 5.0 several times to resolve and looked at several KB articles. Where should I begin? I have a MPS report if needed. --------------------- Event Type: Error Event Source: LicenseService Event Category: None Event ID: 202 Date: 11/27/2007 Time: 11:39:37 AM User: N…

Notify of New Document?
by Guest Randi- 2 replies
All of my different offices are connected to the same server - or they can connect to the same server. We all have access to a Drive, where we can all save things and all look at them, etc. I am wondering if there is any way to automatically be notified if a new file has been created in a folder? Basically what I am looking for is something that can be used instead of the public folders in Outlook, where if someone posts something there or sends an e-mail to the specified address, it notifies you that there is a new document. My company is not utilizing this feature in Outlook, so I am trying to find another solution. Currently I am receiving large…

How to automate Network Password on bootup?
by Guest zeke7- 6 replies
After installing the Gmail Notifier tool, every time I reboot my Windows 2000 Pro, the "Enter Network Password" menu pops up awaiting a response from me. My username and password are filled in in the menu cells just fine, but I still need to click the button to get logged on and close out the popup window before I can see my desktop in its entirety. Is there a way to automate this procedure so I don't have to click the Log-on button and instead have the window close out automatically? I'd like to be able to boot up and see my desktop, not a menu awaiting action from me. Thanks for any suggestions.

Known problem with DC virtualization
by Guest Niveau3_TLB- 2 replies

Hi, Is this the right newsgroup to post my question? We have 3 sites with one W2K DC on each site. In the main site, we have a single DC with the 5 FSMO roles on it. The Virtualization team here have virtualized this machine, the one with the 5 FSMO roles. Could this cause problems? They did this 5-6 months ago and we are starting to have DNS and AD with users loggin in the domain at the start of the day. Regards,

Power Saver in Display fails often
by Guest nesredep egrob- 0 replies

Just a bit annoying that I have to reset the power saver from time to time - in fact very often. When I set it - it will usually work 2-3 times and then pack in with the screen showing as I return. Unfortunately the Acronis backups I have are endowed with the same trouble - I suppose that I might have to reinstall OS but really I do not want to do that if it can be helped. Search function not Searchin'...?
by Guest Kenneth- 10 replies

Howdy, I just reinstalled Win 2000 Pro on one of our systems. Nearly all of its software is loaded, and working properly. A few minutes ago, I needed to locate a particular file on the system, and so, clicked Start | Search. In the appropriate field, I entered *.PST and launched the search. To my surprise, perhaps three seconds later, I saw "Search Completed, no files found" (or some such wording.) It seemed that the search ran with remarkable speed, and I know with certainty that the system had a PST file because it was running Outlook 2000. I assumed that I had entered the search criterion with a typo, and so, tried again, with greater care. …

Can't read compressed drive
by Guest wvmontani- 3 replies
I have a PC running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. It has a second hard drive that has been compressed. This is used for data storage. The C: drive crashed and I lost the operating system. The C: drive has now been replaced and W2KAS has been reloaded. Trouble is, it does not recognize the second (compressed) drive. It sees that a dynamic drive is there under Disk Management, but won't assign a drive letter. How can I get the data back? Thanks. -WVMontani

Downloads often halt at 50KB. (Attempt #2.)
by Guest Robbie Hatley- 11 replies

(Second attempt. Hmmm... No responses at all to first attempt. Ok. I'll try again. I'll also post to the IE6 group, though I'm not really sure if this is an IE6 problem or a Win2000 problem; the two are so tightly intertwined.) I've been having a problem recently on two different computers, both running IE6 and Windows 2000 Professional: when downloading files from the Internet, the download often stops at 50KB, with Windows thinking that the download is complete, even if the actual file size was 1.38MB or 11.85MB or whatever. Once this happens, it can take many further attempts to get the download to complete. I did find a partial work-around, by acci…
