I searched a little on this forum and I found "control intl.cpl" but it just start the panel. I want something that does not require human intervention, like some parameters that specify the format and it automatically does the job ? Is this possible ? And how ? Thanks very much !

Windows installer launching whenever I try to open a file
by Guest glorywest- 3 replies
I've searched Microsoft, the web and groups but can't find this same problem (similar, but not the same) with a solution, so I'll try here to see if I have better luck. Within the last two weeks whenever I double click to open a file in Windows Explorer, Windows Installer launches and tries to install Contribute 3. I have not recently installed Contribute or performed any other software installations or updates other than Firefox. I have not done any recent MS auto updates either. It first began when clicking excel files, but now is happening with other MS files types and plain text files. I have to keep trying to cancel to get the dialog box to disappear. …

Licenses Revoked keep re-appearing
by Guest Ken Montgomery- 3 replies

I have been having some issues with my Windows 2000 Server. I have multiple servers in an AD environment, and on my main server I have been having issues with old licenses re-appearing. I went through the process of deleting the files and restarting the license service, but the old licenses (most of which have not been used since 2003 and are not shown as domain accounts) reappear still. Has anyone else found a method for permanently revoking a license and ensuring it does not re-appear? Thanks, Ken

Can't delete old documents
by Guest Barque- 6 replies

I have some old documents that are shown on my hard drive in te my documents folder. I keep getting messages that say I can't delete or move or rename the files (or move the folders they are in as they are missing or have been moved (I suppose to someplace they aren't). Anyway, even when signed on as an administrator they can't be touched. I even tried a new install of Windows 200 Pro, and updated to service pack 4 and the stupid files are still there! Even eliminating the user name and deleting all the files (other than those) in the user folder can't get rid of them. What next? Thanks

Chkdsk: why does the C: always have minor inconsistencies?
by Guest void.no.spam.com@gmail.com- 6 replies
- 368 views
Over the last week, I've run "chkdsk x: /f /v /r" on my C and D drives 5 or 6 times. The output of the chkdsk shows up in the Event Viewer Application Log as Winlogon events. I see that whenever I run chkdsk on my C drive, it ALWAYS has a line saying "Cleaning up minor inconsistencies on the drive." The D drive never has that problem. Both the C and D drives are NTFS. This is on Windows 2000 SP4 with all the latest updates. So why is the C drive always getting into an inconsistent state, even within 24 hours of the previous chkdsk?

Win2000 server tutorial?
by Guest bill allemann- 3 replies

I'm going to set up a win2k server soon, and it will be a very lowtech little network with just 2 or 3 workstations. Is there some online tutorial material I could read up on, just for planning how the workstations/users will log on, workgroup vs domain, that sort of stuff? Is that sort of thing on the CD itself? Thanks

ALT+TAB mini window won't go away
by Guest A win2k user- 4 replies

There are certain circumstances which I don't yet know how to duplicate, that reult in the mini-window for the task switcher staying on screen, and staying on top. Task switching then still works, but the mini window will not go away. The only clean workaround is to reboot. How can I make the mini window go away? Or kill the mini window process? -- It will be interesting to see how long the meek keep the earth after they inherit it.

cannot set folders to show as web content
by Guest Team ZR-1- 0 replies

Somehow something changed with my Win2000 with SP4 where I can no longer set hard drive folders as web content. That option is grayed out and cannot be set. If I click on set default a folder changes somewhat but if I get out and go back to that folder its back to classic mode. Also for the taskbar, before I could right click anywhere on it and get to task monitor or to make changes for toolbar. Now I can only get this popup is to right click far right where time is, I can now click for task manager but toolbar functions are grayed out. What got changed and how to fix it. Thanks

We lost our second DC a week ago. I installed a new DC. A few days later the only Windows '98 PC that logs into the domain gets an error indicating "the password is incorrect or they do not have permission to log into the domain." Since the only thing that changed was the new DC, I turned it off. They were able to immediately log into the domain. The first DC is named Server1 and the new DC is called DC2. Any ideas? TIA jwkh

Boot problem
by Guest Paul Floyd- 12 replies

Hi I'm trying to revive an old PC. It works fine with Solaris, Linux, FreeBSD and OS/2. However, it won't boot Windows 2000. In the past, it worked OK with windows. I've tried safe boot and LKG. After the login screen, I get a blank desktop for a couple of minutes, then it falls back to the login screen. Partition Magic 8 finds no errors on the 2 partitions (D: boot, F: data, on 2 disks). Same thing for chkdsk from the recovery console. And though I can login to the recovery console, I can't perform a repair or even reinstall (in both cases, the W2K installation can't be found). My next line of attack is likely to be to either mount the boot partition f…

How easy (or otherwise) is it to change my own Windows login name on my on PC where I have full administrator rights? Is it simply a question of changing it under "Users and Passwords", or are there other aspects/complications? -- Herbert Eppel http://www.HETranslation.co.uk
