Delayed write failed
by Guest Don Culp- 3 replies
After I unplugged a USB hard drive, Windows displayed a dialog box: Delayed Write Failed Please try to save this file elsewhere. OK. I can't find the listed file on my original drive and I don't need it anyway. However, the dialog box keeps popping up and insists on remaining in the foreground. Is there any way to get rid of this dialog box without rebooting? Thanks, Don Culp

When I start up the computer, it says: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Swetup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. Well, I don't have the original Setup CD-ROM. I was given this computer. I am able to boot to the Norton Ghost CD and have excess then to all the files and folders on the comp. How do I fix this? -- God Bless America! Scribe

Systen log filling up with this error every minute?
by Guest Eric- 5 replies
I have a Windows 2000 Server box that keeps filling up the system log with the error: Server was unable to allocate a work item 2 times in the last 60 seconds. It writes this event about every minute and a half all day and all night long even when noone is on the system. I have done a little research and found a KB article that talks about upping the sytem pages but my setting was already higher than what is suggested. Is this message cause for concern? If so what can I do to fix it? Thanks

NAS_server crashing, takes mapped users with it
by Guest Steve- 0 replies

Got an issue that's resurfaced a few times. Win2k Server crashes due to non-paged memory leak, and any workstations with mapped drives to the server slow down to a crawl, no icons on the desktop, very slow to respond. Why would the server take down these users, instead of dosconnect? -- Steve Sleczkowski Desktop Engineer

Missing Shutdown and Restart from log off dialog box
by Guest MHUser- 2 replies
I am running Windows 2000 Server. One user profile on that server does not have the option to Shutdown or Restart when they hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete. The options seem to be missing from the log off menu. I have checked the registry under(HKey_users\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer) and NoClose and NoLogOff are not present. I have also ensured that the user profile has the ability to Shutdown the system in Group Policy. (User Config\Adm Templates\Start Menu and Task Bar. If that user logs on to another server, the Shutdown and Restart options are available to them. It appears to be a problem only to this one server. All oth…

Ok get this. Windows 2k SP4 5.00.2195 PC is an older Pentium III, 700mhz, x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1 (for those interested) RAM is a total of 392,692 KB Now, here's the could few problems I've encountered. DirectX won't update from 7.0(4.07.00.0700) or at least that's what the Diagnostic Tool says. Yes, I've tried 8.1 from W.M.Com and also downloading the whole update file. Problems uninstalling/deleting printers and installing new ones. One HP 5650 seems to install fine, but the HP 930c launches the installer to 10% then quits. Also, uninstalling the 5650 software works but the printer is still listed in "ghost" form but refuses to delete perma…

Multi Boot Problem
by Guest Sid Elbow- 9 replies
My first hard drive looks like this (in sequence): - Partition-1 ... Primary partition OS Win2K-1 - Partition-2 ... Primary partition, empty, formatted - Partition-3 ... Extended partition containing two data drives - partition 4 ... Primary partition OS Win2K-2 All this works fine as a multi-boot. I'm trying to install XP to the empty partition (Partition-2). The install goes fine, the XP partition is added to the boot menu and XP and Win2K-2 are both bootable. However, Win2K-1 on Partition-1 fails to boot with the error message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM Any ideas?

Server not responding
by Guest Apollo- 1 reply
Hi, got a very weird thing happening with a new HP server. Every week we need to reboot it as it stops responding. It replies to pings, and you can log on locally (although all you see after entering username and password is a grey screen). Users typically can not log on to the domain in that site and a reboot cures the problem. Have looked through the event logs and absolutely clean. The server room is locked and two other servers are unaffected by this. Any ideas....?

general question
by Guest rb- 2 replies

OK. Found a WSM 2000 buried deep in my closet. Tried to get it going. So far, it comes on and warms up fairly nicely. Then, the blue screen of death comes up and tell me theres some kernel fault, and all my data is being dumped to "somewhere". Thats all she wrote on that part. 1. Is this meaning something else is going on in relation to the disk? 2. I've run a copy of Windows 2000 on it, and it seems not to like that (does the same thing). 3. What do I do to get it going again?

Wouse Wheel Button not reset properly at reboot
by Guest Steve- 1 reply
I'm using a Logitech trackball, with pretty current drivers. I have the wheel click set to "Back" as being the most handy setting when browsing, and it works just fine until I reboot. I rarely reboot, because the Win 2K SP4 I'm using is quite stable, except for a few installation programs that insist on rebooting. After rebooting, however, the wheel click function reverts to some screwball default value that I can't even find a use for, even though opening the Control Panel section for the mouse shows it still configured as "Back". Just opening that and closing it is enough to reset the setting. Does anyone know how to make that setting stick thru a reboot? S…
