add physical disk as cluster resource
by Guest snazzy- 0 replies

We lost a LUN due to too many harddrives. The harddrives have since been replaced and LUN is been recreated. The LUN shows up OK in computer management and explorer for Windows. Data can be added and deleted OK. The format is NTFS. The problem has been to get in back into the cluster. When I use the command line option: cluster . res "Disk D:" /create /group:"NCFPMSQL Group" /type:"Physical Disk" cluster . res "Disk D:" /priv Drive="D:" cluster . res "Disk D:" /priv security=Domain\Administrator,grant,f:security cluster .res "Disk D:" /on The error occurs: System error 997 Overlapped I/O operation in progress

Apps in Programs / Startup fail to launch.
by Guest baobob@my-deja.com- 3 replies

I've got Windows 2000 Professional Build 2195. However, I have had this problem on and off for years, at least since Win 9x. One or more apps named in menu Start / Programs / Startup never launches, and nothing I try works. If I click on these failing items MANUALLY (i.e. click on the icon *in* Startup), they DO launch fine. I mean, huh? Example: Yesterday, I had Windows Explorer, Excel and Firefox in Startup, but only Excel and Firefox launched on startup. Win Explorer was a complete no-show. Today, after mucking around and re-creating the shortcut to Firefox, now only Excel launches, and FIREFOX won't start. I fail to understand how an OS can be thi…

Ilomo trojan-regscan- how do I zap this thing?
by Guest Chopper- 3 replies

CA anti-spyware scan detects Ilomo Trojan in regscan.exe and tries to quarantine unsuccessfully. If I turn off auto quarantine I get a buffer over-run. When I re-scan right away, I get the same results. I can't find regscan.exe on my hard drive, either searching manually or with search function. I have everything turned on to show hidden and system files. CA anti-virus shows no infection. I'm running win2k, Sp4, update rollup 1 v2. When I boot into safe mode it takes a long, long time, and any program I try to run starts very slowly. Task manager doesn't show anything out of the ordinary running, either in normal boot or safe mode. Could the extremely slow boot…

How do i create incremental NT backups? I ahve already created a one off normal backup and wnat to do incremental backups against this. DOes selecting append or replace make a difference? The thing i do not understand is if I am backing up to file and i select a scheduled incremental, append or replace - wont the incremental .bfk file be appended to or overwritten making it useless when i come to do a restore? restricting domain workstation logons
by Guest wyocowboy- 4 replies

A customer wants to limit who can logon to certain machines to a handful of authorized users and prevent all other users in the company from logging onto these 3 workstations. I know that I can go into every user's profile and limit which machine(s) a given user can logon to, but I would rather not have to edit all those profiles, unless there is no other way. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any provision for doing this through Client Computers properties. Any ideas?

Logon Error from KB 824302
by Guest E-Double- 6 replies

A standalone Win2000 Pro/sp4 machine cannot be logged on to either in normal or safe mode as the error "The system cannot log you on now because the domain xxx is not available" as detailed in KB Article 824302. I contacted MS Support and they sent me two .EXE files that apparently fix the problem, but how are these fixes supposed to be run if the machine cannot be logged on to? The Readme.txt file just says to refer to the KB article - which does not really have instructions. I also tried booting to a CD but they would not run that way either. In addition I remotely edited the registry from another machine changing the WinLogonCache value to 0, as wel…

Hard Drive
by Guest MichaelN- 6 replies

I have an old computer with 2 hard drives running Windows 2000. I believe they are both SCSI. My C: drive is a Healthy Boot NTFS (Disk 0) and working fine. It is only 9.32 GB. I said it was old! My other drive (Disk 1) is the problem. Part of it is Healthy (active) with a primary partition of 9.32 GB. It is mirroring my c: drive. It has no drive letter assigned to it. The rest of the Disk 1 drive is 47.9 GB and contains some important storage files that I would like to access (but not enough to spend the $$$ for data recovery, as I have backups of the important ones). It used to be my d: drive, but something happened and it no longer shows up in Wi…

My cousin brought home a computer from work that was running Windows 2000 (not sure of version). Originally, the "CTRL+ALT+Delete to start.." message appeared and when name/password were entered, system started without problem; and yes, there was a domain name shown on the log-in window. As per work's instructions, she deleed the software (via control panel/remove) that started the network log-on screen. Now the problem. After re-starting, the "CTRL+ALT+Delete to start " window has changed and the domain name area in not shown. The system will not accept the name/password only and keeps saying to check the domain name. How do I get passed the CTRL+ALT+Del…
