How to disable folder sharing?
by Guest zeke7- 2 replies
From Win Explorer properties, Sharing tab, I can select and apply "Do not share this folder" (for my entire C: drive). But when I reboot, this setting reverts to the "Share this folder" setting. The same is true for other hard drives I have installed. How can I make "Do not share" permanent? If I try changing the share setting in Computer Mgmt\Shared Folders \Shares, I get a MMC message saying "This share was created for administrative purposes only; it will reappear... after rebooting." I'm running W2K SP4 on a stand-alone system using a LAN connection for internet access only (no other network connections set), single partition on all drives, and simply w…

On a multiboot system, how can I edit the registry on the second partition from the first? Regedit (or Regedt32 as far as I can see) doesn't have a regular <File Open> dialogue and <Connect Network Registry> won't let me connect to the other partition on the same machine.

Print window problem
by Guest C. Moore- 5 replies

When I go to print from OE, (and some other programs) to my HP DJ 9800, a window comes up with information like select printer, quantity and other chck off points and the print button at the bottom. The window is vertically larger than my screen image with the result I can't get to the "Print" button. There is plenty of empty space in the window but no way that I can find to shrink it. There is no part screen window button in the upper right corner. It does not respond to putting the cursor on the edge. Suggestions? C. Moore

moving to a new disk
by Guest Bill H.- 5 replies

I'm changing to a different boot disk. I used Ghost to create an image file of the "old" hard drive, and then to put that image onto the new drive. However, I can't log into Win 2k any more on the new drive. I get the logon screen, enter the info, and it just shuts down. If I try safe mode, after trying to log in, I'm taken back to the login screen. What's going on? Thanks. -- Bill

Continuous Reboot
by Guest chickybabay- 2 replies

Hello All, So my Compaq Presario 5000 (running on Windows 2000 Pro) has been continuously rebooting for the last couple of days just after the system is loaded. I am able to access safe mode without this happening, so I disabled automatic restart on system failure in order to be able to see the associated stop code. What I was given is: 0xC000001E (0xC0000044, 0x8049FD5B, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) This is about the extent of my technical abilities/ know-how, and I am unsure what this stop code refers to or how to proceed! I would be most appreciative for any suggestions or guidance on how to resolve this problem. * A little background that may or may no…

Hi all, for the past week I cannot back up my system without the system freezing up. I have been using Disk Image 7 for several years with no problems but now it halts the system after a minute or two. I've tried running Norton Utililties, sfc /scannow, RegCleaner, and my antivirus with no change and there are no other problems with the system. I don't know if it is DI7 or Windows 2K but I get the following error message on the dreaded blue screen: Stop 0x000000B8 (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) a wait operation, attach process, or yield was attempted from a DPC routine. Beginning dump of physical memory If anyone can tell me how t…

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced
by Guest Bill Stock- 5 replies

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced I've got the following message when the system boots: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced " which I realize means the registry is hosed. I've renamed System.Alt, but I get the same message. The Repair copy is over a year old, so it's missing lots of Windows updates. The wierd thing is that I can't get into the installation on C: from the Win2K CD to repair it, Windows cannot see it. If I boot into my rescue installation all the disks and files look fine, chkdsk runs OK and all…

File Synch won't stop for deleted profile
by Guest JPW5345- 0 replies

My Windows XP notebook at one time had a user profile of UserA. He has been deleted. I have gone into Offline Folders and manually deleted any and all files related to him. When my machine synchs when connected to the network, it synchs my local files to my home directory on a Windows2k server. This is good. However, it continues to synch UserA's files to his home directory. I have enven hacked my laptop registery to delete references to Usera. What reference to him might remain on my laptop? How do I stop it from synching with his home directory? -- Thank you. John

We recently had our ISP change us from one server to another which necessitated email setting changes. Our new server requires email authentication. Outlook Express is working fine with the new settings; however, we have another technical software program which sends emails when certain conditions occur. It is now not working. I believe it does not support email authentication. Is there any way around this? Please help! EggHeadCafe - .NET Developer Portal of Choice http://www.eggheadcafe.com

Hi Hope someone can point me in the right ditrection. I have 5 W2K server (all fully patches), DC1 & DC2, then three member servers - 1 running exchange, 2 running 3rd party apps. Windows XP SP2 DSP
by Guest Ian D Samson- 2 replies

This isn't really a Windows 2000 Pro support call, so the engineers can't charge me R249+VAT just to ask a question about Windows XP Professional DSP - whatever DSP means. At the end of March 2008, I will be needing to purchase 2 Windows XP Professional CDs to upgrade firstly my Windows 2000 Professional SP4 computer, and secondly my Windows XP Home computer, so that we are all on the same page. What I need to know is what my software supplier cannot tell me. That is, if I purchase two Windows XP Professional CDs, will I have to reformat the hard drives in both machines? Since Windows 2000 Pro SP4 is already NTFS and Windows XP Home is also NTFS, surely inst…
