I have a file and print server that has become inundated with the following Srv warnings, event 2021, with the # being filled in with a variety of different numbers. How do I get to the bottom of this? every article i've come up with says it could really be anything causing this with not much help. The server was unable to allocate a work item # times in the last 60 seconds.

Hi MS Native Backup terminates unexpectedly when I click on the backup wizard. However when I click on the Restore wizard I am able to see the Welcome screen. If I do not select the wizard method and go direct to Backup I am not able to selct the check boxes and thereafter it will terminate if I select any other option. Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall MS backup. Thanks.

Errors After Moving Boot Drive To New Motherboard
by Guest jgmanist@gmail.com- 0 replies

I moved a drive to a new motherboard, and performed an in-place reinstall of w2k server; windows has finally stopped blue screening, but now a service won't startup. I uninstalled and reinstalled IIS since it was the first program giving an error in the event viewer and we weren't running any sites on it, and now I'm getting this error: The Network News Transport Protocol (NNTP) service depends on the following nonexistent service: IISADMIN For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

CPU usage intermittent 25%.. HELP
by Guest Michel Moreno- 0 replies
Hi, I don't know exactly if this is the right newsgroup but here it goes: I'm having a problem in one of my servers, the system process is using 25% of the CPU every 20-30 seconds. I'm using the process explorer tool provided by Microsof, is showing that usage in red color, meaning that the CPU usage is in kernel mode. Is this normal?? Why is this happening? I was researching in the internet, lots of hours in google, but I couldn't find anything. I will really appreciate your help. Thanks in advanced. -Michel

Slow startup
by Guest Don Eilenberger- 7 replies

Folks, one of my W2K Servers (running DNS and AD) has started taking 30 minutes to complete the "Starting Windows 2000" screen. The activity bar at the bottom moves at normal speed to about 2/3rds done - then it sits there for almost exactly 30 minutes and finally completes and W2K starts. Any ideas? It didn't always do this. BTW - configuration includes 2 network cards, one for our internal network (192.168.0.subnet) the other for outside connectivity to our T1 connection. The server runs one basic program - MailTraq - which is our mail server software. Any ideas?

Changed Name & Lost Access
by Guest Thomas- 3 replies

The vendor I bought my workstation from used "Preferred Customer" & regrettably I tired of it & went into "Users and Passwords" in the Control Panel on Win 2K Pro & entered my name instead. I checked NO boxes which would require a password. I rebooted & now I get a log on screen (there was none before) which when I enter my name, requests a password. Since I chose none, I can't fabricate one. I CAN get into the O/S by typing "Administrator" & hitting "Enter" w/o using a password, but I cannot access 5 1/2 years of desktop & other customizations. I can see program files through "Computer Management" but recouping "Preferred Custo…

Hello, My father's old Dell Optiplex GX260 with Windows 2000 SP4 (all updates) gave an "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" error. It happened right after the loading graph reached "C" in "Corporation". I had to use a non-Dell 2000 (I don't think it is slipstreamed with a SP) CD and go to its recovery console (not repair install) and do a repair. After it was done, it said it finished repairing some issues (didn't specify what type of issues). Machine was rebooted automatically and Windows 2000 SP4 booted up fine. I did not see any problems after that. I checked the event logs and didn't see anything about the issues I ran into earlier. I did notice the OS was…

Drag/drop MS Word Doc Shortcut to Win2K Start Menu
by Guest Clueless in Seattle- 6 replies
I've set up a folder on my Win2K Start Menu where I would like to store shortcuts to my frequently used MS Word document files. The only way I know how to create shortcuts for my MS Word documents is to go into Windows Explorer, find the folder containing the document file, and drag the file to the Start Menu and drop its shortcut into the folder I've created there. That gets a bit tedious, having to wade through the Windows Explorer folder tree. What I'd like to be able to do is this: When I have a Word document file open in front of me and decide that I'd like to add it to my Start Menu folder, I could just just drag a shortcut directly from the open …
