Microsoft's Internet Information Services (IIS) has come a very long way since its beginning both in terms of stability and performance. IIS 6.0, which is the latest and greatest version of IIS, rolls out with Windows Server 2003. How does it compare with earlier versions? Have the knowledge... http://it-techexperts.com/MCSE/GAIIS014.asp

Memory error message
by Guest rubyjack- 5 replies

Recently I've started getting a message when I close down an IE6 window. The message is 'The instruction at "0x6600accc" referenced memory at "0x6600accc". The memory could not be "read".' Microsoft yielded no answers. I don't get this message every time I close down an IE6 window, but I do get it frequently (65%?). Does anyone know what's going on? And does anyone know if this is a message I need to worry about? Thanks for any help, Dan Hacker -- ---------------- Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. - B. System slowdown-win2000 svcpak 4
by Guest Beasel- 1 reply

Regardless of application running, my system repeatedly hangs up. A look at the Task Manager status indicates that one, or more, of the open apps is/are "not responding". The Process page shows that the "System Idle process" is the only thing active. Performance is at 1% or less. I run McAfee and run OneCare. And, have cleaned the registry often. Cleared cookies and temp files. And, defragged the disk. Six year old Dell x86 family 6 model 8 stepping 10 system, 128meg Ram, not upgradable. Opening the Task Manager seems to clear the problem temporarily but that may be a coincidence. Happening many many times an hour. Used for surfing, email, writ…

Audio Record Problem - SB Live! Basic (WDM)
by Guest pete_29119@yahoo.com- 0 replies

Hi all, I hope that someone here may be able to help me resolve my recording problem. I'm using the good ol' Creative SB Live! Basic (WDM) soundcard and for the most part it's been very reliable in the past. No conflicts listed in system information. Speakers and headphones are working fine. I can play cd's, dvd's, record and playback audio directly from cd/dvd/avi/mpg files etc.. The mic and line in work, and any sound input to the mic/line input is output through the pc speakers/headphone. Problem: I can't record audio with any of my audio apps. I even tried recording using the plain old Windows Sound Recorder, but even that won't record. The driver …

Protection against rouge use of admin password
by Guest rubberlugs- 1 reply
I know this may be unethical, but I know for a fact that our network techie was stupid enough to give the admin password out to someone who shouldn't have it. I don't believe he would do anything vicious with it like harvest details etc but he would use it for his gossipy fishwife ways. I feel put in a hard position, I don't want to be the local snitch and would rather batten down my hatches so that I am protected. We all leave our machine on overnight and that's when he would remote in and nosey around. Is there anyway I can keep this person out of my machine and that idiot of a techie too? I sometimes remote onto my machine myself for work reasons so don…

autoexec.nt elusive
by Guest John B- 11 replies

I am running under Windows 2000 Pro + sp4. I have gone into a CMD window and typed "autoexec.nt" + [enter]. A file executes OTHER than the one and only autoexec.nt file that I can find in my computer... The one I find is at %systemroot%\system32\autoexec.nt. How can this be? Can anyone refresh my memory? It seems there were various "autoexec" files under Windows 95...a long time ago. I have used "attrib" to scan the system32 directory, which should ferret out hidden files, but I only see autoexec.nt...the same one I can edit. TIA John

I would like to know some method where I can safely and completely uninstall uninstall this program.

PLEASE HELP! My System is Hijaked!
by Guest Bryan Elwood- 10 replies

My Windows 2000 system has begun to spontaneously dial a foreign country through my dial-up modem. It occurs at random times throughout the day. If I am dialed in, the offending entity will hang up with my ISP, then begin dialing on its own. The bug will make 11 or so attempts before giving up until later. Watching Task Manager closely during an episode, there is no noticeable activity under Processes. However, I believe I have halted the bug in mid-stream by closing all instances of Internet Explorer 6, unless of course the bug simply reached its set number of attempts. My Norton AV expired some time ago, but I am up to date with Windows Updates. I did…

Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 popup obscenity (using W2K Pro SP4) My screen shot below (initial editing this post) illustrates this always, immoveable, ontop of applications and desktop, software poopup feces 1. The popup is triggered on many websites (whose tech support reps. cannot help & who advise to contact macromedia - note: the active rt. I have a corrupt Windows 2000 Server OS that is currently a member server. I am going to reinstall the OS. Some questions. Do I need to remove this member server from active directory or remove it from the network prior to reinstalling the OS or can I just reinstall the OS and name the server the same name as before and it will be automatically be available in active directory? Will I need to setup mapped drives to my clients again after reinstalling the OS? I have a system state backup for this server. After I reinstall the OS, should I restore the system state backup or should I manually install all drivers, updates, software, etc. like I would if…

We have a customer that would like to print shipping labels directly from their location to our facility. Is it possible to setup a printer so that our customer can send print jobs to it from the internet? I would like to avoid creating a VPN for them to remotely connect unless that is the best or preferred method. Any ideas? Thanks, Jasper

hello,,, i have been loaned a win2000 machine, (this one) and thought i would look around as i havent had much to do with 2000.(my other machine is sick, and will take a while to fix... $$$$$$$$$'s) i wanted to change some icons for a few utilities i down- loaded, and for other things like 'Word, XL' etc. i did a search using this:: ' *.ico ' but found nothing relating to icons. win98 has 'moreicons' and 'shellicons' and similar, but i cant find the file(s) in 2000 where i can have lots of icons to choose from. i found the win2000 Help utility to be useless, there is hardly anything there no matter what. also, a bit off topic, this machine is using O/E5 …
