I have one workstation that has suddenly decided to take ages to open a file that is the third or fourth folder in a file directory. It takes about 3 minutes to open and if you cancel it, it says program not responding but if you do in via windows explorer it is instant. Ran defrag, antivirus scan but could not find any issues. Any ideas?

Hi, I have a partition in which I defined the permissions incorrectly. I have defined some kind of read permissions for the administrator, and now I can't access the partition. It says "<Drive>: is not accessible". Does anyone know how to reset ntfs permissions for a directory? Would really appreciate some help on this. Thanks

Windows 2000 SP4 installation problem
by Guest kevjp- 6 replies

I'm trying to install SP4 on a PC that has no Internet connection, and has Windows 2000 already installed (with no servicepacks). I've downloaded the network installation file on another PC and copied it to the 2000 PC and double clicked the w2ksp4.exe file. Then a very brief DOS window opens and quickly closes again, but nothing else. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, please?

Hi, We have Win2K3 Domain. We have a local Win2K3 DC at our site. We have several Windows 2000 professional users. To say, some of the users get the errors stated below when they login initally every morning ! When they restart their PC after getting this error and try to login, there is no problem. Even after one successful logon, they shutdown their PC and start and can successfully logon. The error they get is ###################### Event Type: Error Event Source: Userenv Event Category: None Event ID: 1000 Date: 9/4/2007 Time: 8:32:10 AM User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: ABC Description: Windows cannot log you on because the profile c…

Different printing in IE6
by Guest clippan- 1 reply

If one user logs on a PC at my job and uses IE6 to go to a webpage and then prints out the page it looks ok. If another user logs on on the same PC and goes to the same webpage and tries to print the same webpage the printing gets different, the layout "moves" to the right so the left margin get's wider and the right side of the page is not printed on the paper. A printed Word-page though looks the same for both users. The used printer is the same, and it is locally connected to the PC. Different drivers has been used, no difference. And no intentional settings are made about printing of any of the users. Why this difference between the printings? Is ther…

by Guest kimiraikkonen- 1 reply

Hello, I have a system it has been working OK with several USB devices such as flash drives. I've bought a SD card reader and connected, it's recognized successfully but it generated lots of event id: 17 and 168 error logs in "event viewer". I couldn't mean because i was copying bi- directonal good with no error logs. Additionaly, i connected my flash drive while USB SD card reader is being connected, but it couldn't be recognized... If i unplug SD card reader, flash drive works very good. I have SP4 and i tried these hardwares on another XP SP2 machine with NO problems. Why does Windows 2000 have lots of bugs especially for new drives like SD readers? …

where are the WIn2K3 R2 files...
by Guest Brad Pears- 1 reply

I downloaded and installed SP2 for one of our Win2K3 servers last week using Windows Update. This week I'd like to install SP2 on our other WIn2K3 server and if possible I would like to just run a setup file from the other win2K3 server. I found a setup.exe file in the c:\windows\software distribution\download\7c205249e4e58548a01567c8dc12d1b5\update directory that when run, wants to install Service Pack 2. Can I simply run this file from my other machine or will I have to copy the whole update directory over...? Thanks, Brad
