In Windows 2000 Server is there an easy way to monitor log-on and log-off activities (time of occurrence) for each user account in the AD other then through the Audit Policies? If not is there a third party add-on that would do that for me? /Adde -- fantamejthisisgoodvarjedag

I have a LAN with Win98, WinXP and Win 2000. I can I eliminate the login window to the Win2000 Pro PC from the Win98 or WinXP PC? The password in the Win2000 PC is blank, but the name must be entered. I'd like to eliminate this login window on the Win 2000 Pro machine, if possible. Thanks.

device settings cannot be displayed
by Guest Patrick- 3 replies

I have a Windows 2000 client desktop in a Server 2003/AD environment having issues with printers, particularly on an HP LaserJet 4250 but others as well (KyoMita). This is a relatively new problem on this machine and other Win2000 machines are not experiencing the same problem. When attempting to select printer properties or to change settings on the printer, the following message pops up: "Device settings cannot be displayed. the driver for the specified printer is not installed. Only spooler properties will be displayed. Do you want to install the driver now?" This is a networked printer. The print server is a 2003 server. Can someone assist me with how…

by Guest Gus- 3 replies

Hi I hope you can help since online support has proved pointless. Everytime I boot I get a Blue screen. with the following error. Stop 0x00000050 (0xEC2BF340, 0x00000000, 0xEB90A71E, 0x00000000) PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA I have tried a hardware solution mentioned. All anti-virus has been disabled but it continues to occur. No New hardware has been recently added. The only thing that has changed was a hotfix that installed when I shut it down last night. Unfortunately as I have no way to access the system I cant say what it was. I have tried using the recovery functions though the Windows 2000 disc but had no effect except that now when I try …

I am running Win2k sp 4. I want to use NTBackup to backup up user files on a network share which is on the server itself. I want to run full backups with the destination of the backup on a usb harddrive. I want to keep the last 2 weeks. I can get the backup to work. The next day, the new backup will over write the previous. How can I get it amend the name of the file automatically, so not to over write?. regards,

by Guest ***** charles- 6 replies

Hi all, I removed a hd from a laptop that had Vista Basic on it. I connected the hd to an old clone that I have that has Windows 2000 Pro SP4 on it. The laptop hd is a SATA and I have a SATA card in the clone. The driver loaded just fine and I can see the two partitions on the laptop hd. Problem is I need to drill down into My Documents on the laptop hd to copy my documents off the thing. When I click on the My Documents directory I get F:\Documents and Settings is not accessable. Access is denied. I know there is stuff in there and that this is a permisions problem but how do I take ownership of the directory so I can read/copy the files I need? than…

Hi, I have windows 2000 server installed on a server with 2 partitions. Now windows 2000 doesn't boot, gives this message: "Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMced startup options for windows 2000, press F8." In safe mode doesn't boot as well. So I tried to insert original CD, and tried to make repair option, but I've got the message saying he doesn't find a windows 2000 installation. What can I do to repair this installation? Thanks.

Blue Screen Of Death System File Corrupt
by Guest Dave Marden- 3 replies
At work we have several pc's that use windows 2000 professional for vision systems, and for some reason when we have to shut down our sub-stations invertently one of our pc's gets the bsod and upon restarting the pc's say that the system file is corrupt. We have about 100 pc's and it wouldn't be very possible to physically go around and shut off all the pc's as this would require too much manpower and it would be less expensive to just replace the pc and replace the hard drive and ghost the new one for later use. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what would be causing this. I suspect dirty hard drives, as I work in a foundry. Any help woul…

If I'm posting to an inappropriate newsgroup - please direct me to the proper one. When I insert an audio CD, I'm initially greeted with the following window: "Desktop" Access to the specified device, path or file is denied. If I persist, I can play the CD, by accessing in Windows Explorer and 'opening with': Media Player. Particulars: Win2000, Windows Media Player version 9.00.00.3075. This is only a recent event.
