Sharing removable drives and CD/DVR after a reboot
by Guest Level13- 0 replies

After rebooting a Windows 2000 Pro computer (or after turning it on), I always have to manually add sharing rights to CD/DVD drive as well as to any removable drive I connect (even though they were already added in previous sessions). Is there any "hack" available that would keep the "share this folder" settings for these drives as well?

We use windows 2003 terminal servers in a windows 2000 network/domain. I want to limit the profile size for terminal servers profile not the normal user profiles. Is there a setting in Group policy for example to limit the TS Profile size. I can see group policy settings for user profiles but not Terminal server profiles. Can the Terminal server profiles sizes be limited,

Windows 2000 Pro Troubleshooting
by Guest paul- 1 reply

I sent a couple of older IBM Thinkpad laptops out to some customers in the field. Both had Windows 2000 installed. Before I shipped them out, I downloaded current Norton antivirus signatures and also checked the Windows Update site to ensure both systems were up to date. I get a call today that one of the users is receiving a message to insert the Windows 2000 CD. I didn't send that with her. Anyone know how I can disable this or correct it without having to interact with her? Would a generic Windows 2000 Pro CD work? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Need a little help after Windows 2000 Pro install?
by Guest psongman- 7 replies

Hi, I hope you can help me with some unexpected results after installing Windows 2000 Pro. What happened was, I was having so much trouble with my Windows 98 that I decided to upgrade. However, I put the new OS on top of the ole 98. I followed some instructions on the Net, and got it to boot up using the new OS by changing boot ini, etc. but here is what is strange. It says there are no programs in the add/remove programs area and it is acting like the Windows 2000 area is not connected to the 98 stuff, but I can use all the programs in the program files area. So, what should I do to make it work smoothly? I will stop updating all the stuff I had before, you…

windows 2000 AS showing disk is full when it shouldn't be
by Guest group22- 12 replies
Hi, I have a Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4. Windows is saying the disk was nearly full. (about 32GB used) The disk is roughly 34GB and I didn't see any large folders or files on it. If I look at the properties of all folders (including hidden) the folder sizes add up to about 6GB. This morning, I ran a utility called i.disk that displays folder size graphically and it is only showing about 6Gb of disk space used. I have scanned for viruses and found none. I scanned for rootkits and it came up clean. I ran a file system check on boot, that didn't clear it up. Any ideas as to how to proceed? Thanks, Rob

by Guest Brad Pears- 6 replies

I am trying to obtain a copy of Windows 2003 service pack 1 for installation on my 2003 server. When I use windwos update, it only has an option for Service Pack 2 which I do not want to install at this time. Is there a way to force it to ignore service pack 2 and show Service pack 1?? OR does someone have a link to where I can downlaod SP1 from?? Many thanks, Brad

re-using user names after re-installing a win2000 server
by Guest Michael Marosz- 1 reply

i am in a jam. I have a win2000 server whose hdd's died. I do not have any recovery disks. I re-installed the operating system on new hdd's, and I used the same computer name and domain name. The server install went without any problems. My problem is with logging into the new domain from the client workstations. I have winxp and win2000 clients who were joined to the domain before the hdd's died, and they have domain users they log in with. They are not using roaming profiles or re-directed folders. On one client pc (a win2000 pc), domain userA existed in the 'old' domain (i will call it old domainA). After i re-installed the server (i'll call it n…

PoolMon on Win2k locks up - any alternatives?
by Guest tbone- 2 replies

If I run poolmon right after login, it seems ok for a while. Then as I start up my usual applications, eventually it seems to freeze the system up, i.e. TaskMon and PerfMon both stop updating and the mouse barely responds. After experimenting, I've found that I can kill the console window it's running in (with careful and deliberate mouse movement) and the system returns to normal. I'm trying to track down something that seems to use up some resource after about a day or so. Usually, Kerio (my firewall) starts complaining of an insufficient resource, and soon after everything else goes down the drain too. Sometimes if I close everything fast enough, I can rest…
