Access to ADUC only

I want to give some users access to AD user and computers on their PC's for them to administer a specific OU. I want them to unlock accounts for users under this specific OU. I have setup a msc file which gives them access to the OU by restricting access by giving them limited access to a single window. I have delegated control on the OU as well so that they can unlock accounts only. I copied the msc file onto their PC's but when they open the file it says cannot open file. I dont want to install the adminpak.msi as this will give them access to all other AD tools even though they dont have permissions. But I do not want them to see the tools. I…

Hi, I am getting an error on my W2K Pro machine when launching Easy CD Creator 534 Basic: could not find any recordable drives and the following boot-start and system-start driver(s) failed to load: cdudf [event ID 7026 in system log) CDR shows OK under device manager, but under Roxio shows no drives. Is there a Microsoft/Roxio API driver I need to install? CDR worked OK, until I deleted and recreated the profile of the user. Thanks, T

Veritas Storage foundation and NTFS volume seen as RAW

Hi there, We have a storage array with a volume seen as RAW rather than NTFS. Since several days, we are working on it, with Symantec tech support and their last idea is: "From the screen shots that you sent us, looks like your volume should be in a healthy status with a file system. MSFT does have a fix that may just correct your issue. You will have to open up a support case with MSFT to obtain this patch. This will be their latest fix for mountmgr.sys on windows 2000 SP4. This fix is related to filesystem showing RAW status." We can't find the KB article related to what Symantec told us. They can't tell us where they found this article...(int…

Scanner buttons don't work
by Guest crap@daryllafferty.com- 0 replies

I've done lots of searching on Groups without any solution. Windows 2000, SP4. I have an Epson Perfection 3170 scanner. There are 4 function buttons on the front that used to automatically scan, copy, etc. They suddenly don't work. I have reinstalled the scanner twice. I have checked the settings in Control Panel/Scanners and Cameras. I ran sfc /scannow to make sure my Windows system files were still OK. I ran SysInternals Process Monitor. When I push the scan button, a thread is being created for stisvc.exe. But all the thread does is RegCreateKey, RegQueryValue (4 times), RegCloseKey, and Thread Exit. The query values look right. They reference HKL…

File Handler
by Guest JR- 0 replies

Sorry for 2nd post, but last one unanswered. Probably worded too complicated. I need to know, but can not track down info, what files/libraries are called by ANY program under win2k when the ''open file'' dialog box is used in any program. The main part is done within the opening program, but something is called to get back the drives available and the files on those drives. Please, can anyone help or provide any clues. Reason. There are two types of dialog opened by programs. Newer version, with ''back'' and ''create folder'' icons etc. (where you can edit file names). This version works for me. The second is an ''older'' type with just the …

I am running a home computer with windows 2000 sp4. The problem i am having is when i shutdown for the evening it takes several times of clicking shutdown for the system to power off. There are no error messages nor any other applications that need time to close. I tried waiting 20 minutes before i click shutdown for the second time. It will only shutdown on the first attempt if i turn on my system for a short period of time (5-10 minutes) and then shutdown. Any ideas?

PC won't boot -- pls help!

I have an old Sony PC with a Promise hard drive controller, Maxtor hard drive and another (old) hard drive. The promise drivers show on-screen, but halfway through the Win 2000 Pro boot up process the machine stops (blue screen of death) with Inaccessible boot device. Use Chkdsk /f ... I attempted to boot from a floppy or (Win 2000) CD, but that results in a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner. I looked in the BIOS to make the boot order: removable devices, then CD, then hard drive. The floppy I have contains the following hidden files: boot.ini ntdetect.com ntltr I can access the BIOS. It shows the correct time and har…

Since the last update I have from Mozilla had "Cannot find 'URL', make sure the pasth and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available". I am using a bunch of shortcuts and have checked them; they are exactly as the header that comes up within the second, but the error message indicates something is wrong with the program. Unfortunately you cannot inform them as you complain cannot be 'submitted' Has anyone else had this trouble? Borge in sunny Perth, Australia

PrcView doesn't show full path of WINLOGON.EXE
by Guest M$ User- 1 reply

PrcView shows some processes as name.exe, with full path, and other processes simply as [name], without any path. I'd like to see the full path of (for example) WINLOGON.EXE. I can always download System Internal's Process Explorer from C|net, but I'm curious as to why PrcView doesn't seem to show it. I'd prefer to solve that over moving on to yet another application, though I'm not above doing so. Thanks for any suggestions.

Administrator.<machine name> ?!?!?!?!?!
by Guest pb- 2 replies

All, I'm running windows 2000 Pro as a machine in a workgroup. I somehow screwed up the NTUSER.DAT file for the Administrator account. When I tried to login as administrator it created a new administrator account called administrator.prometheus, where prometheus is the name of the computer. Had to reinstall some stuff, but everything seemed ok. That's when it got weird. Seems the administrator.prometheus and the administrator accounts have some weird connection where files created in in one show up in the other, run Visual Development Environments and they get confused picking bits of projects from either account, etc. I tried deleting the admin…
