TV Tuner Options?
by Guest Charlie Russel - MVP- 17 replies
- 793 views
A friend was asking what the options were for 64-bit supported TV Tuners, and I said I didn't know because I'm a happy TiVo user. But I'd ask here, since I know a few of you have an interest in this area. His options are basically USB or PCI - the only free PCI-e slot is blocked by the monster video card he bought for his son. OS is Vista 64-bit, but could be XP x64 if necessary, I suspect. Thanks! -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel

DQSD x64 Beta 1 Releases!
by Guest Charlie Russel - MVP- 14 replies

Old timers here will know that I simply love Dave's Quick Search Deskbar - http://www.dqsd.net. And that there was a semi-custom solution to running it in 64-bit that I used. Well, with a lot of hard work and persistence, we now have 64-bit support built into the mainstream of DQSD. Whenever we build a new version, we'll be building a 64bit version side by side. YIPPEE! The installer is still a batch file that has my hands all over it, though with a lot of excellent suggestions from Kim Grasman it is cleaner and a bit smarter. But it works, and appears to be smart enough for general use. So please - go download it and check it out. It's one of those littl…

Will I have issues with XP 64 for downloading music?
by Guest Ms Simba- 3 replies
I have had problems with Windows XP Pro64 not being compatible with my software. So much so that my nephew installed a virtual system on my computer so I can run these programs using Win 98. I am thinking about buying a MP3 player as I want to listen to audiobooks that I have downloaded (music also). I know absolutely nothing about MP3 players. My questions is: am I going to have problems downloading audiobooks, music, and videos if I am running Windows XP Pro 64?

64bit Version of Vista......What are some reasons why I would want to install this?
by Guest Jeff Ingram- 3 replies
Hello, I'm trying to figure out why I might want to install the 64 bit version of Vista. What would it give me? Ok, I'd be able to access more than 4gig of RAM (which my motherboard doesn't support). Is it more solid and stable? Would it be faster than the 32bit version? And where would I get the 64bit version? Is it on the same DVD as my 32bit version of Vista? Could someone convince me why I should care about a 64bit operating system? Thanks, Jeff

Check this one out, people! http://www.thg-news.com/T2?95yU3PfwGUgFVQVpemVQVewmVFyKwyK Not a gamers monster by any acount, but many might find themselves to be mighty surprised at what such a thing could actually do in terms of real-life werk. When they speak of "no fan" - I just wonder if that includes 'no cooling tower'? I begin to suspect this could well transpire as 'My Own Next Project'? Tony. . .

Volume icon on the taskbar
by Guest jss27560- 14 replies

I am trying to enable the volume icon on the taskbar but whenever I go to the 'Sounds and Audio Devices properties' applet in CP and select the option I receive an error saying the the Volume Control program is not installed and I need to use the ADD/Remove programs in CP. If you haven't figured out where this is going, there is no volume control program to install and I haven't been able to find one. Anybody has a clue where I might find it. Thanks,

These guys http://www.majorgeeks.com/Nvidia_Forceware_for_Vista_d5935.html say there is a new release of Nvidia drivers with PhysX support! Ageia PhysX was an add-in card that supported the law of physics in games. NVidia bought Ageia and now no separate card is needed. These drivers still don't show up in NVidia's web site. Carlos

RE: Help me on Antivirus for x64!!! try looking for a decently compatible antivirus and there shouldn't be a problem. i use avast myself and there are very few if any issues ive had with it. and it does not contribute to system instability. avast has a program released for vista users that helps to protect and defend vista from nasties out there and i find seems to be the most effective. they know about their programming and i feeel confident with them protecting my system. the database and progeram itsself can even be set to automatically update so the virus database is always new and effective. plus as i have the home user version i have manageed to r…
