AGP video card for vista ultimate 64
by Guest Matt Schneyer- 9 replies

I have Vista ultimate 64 installed finally and functional and rock solid. To do that I had to scrap a Nvidia 7600 GS for an ATI card. the ATI card is a discard from a friend and not as good as I would like. Are there any ideas for a AGP card that only uses one slot. All I lost going from xp pro 32 to Vista ultimate 64 were 2 scanners Nikon does not support a film scanner in 64 bit, and Microtek said the same thing. For 5700 scanner Solved by moving to another computer that is networked. I did try VMware and was able to get 5700 to network but for the same grief moving to another computer is just as easy. My printers Epson 3800 has all drivers and in…

audio codecs with multimedia board
by Guest Mike De Petris- 3 replies

Hi, as written in Hauppauge WinTV HVR-4000 thread I have problems listening to tv and FM radio analog channels, audio is bad and jerky. I would like to check what software is involved in the audio processing, as the same problem does not happen with digital tv and radio channels. I see I can use gspot ffshow and a lot of codec- related tools fon my xp x64 but all seem oriented at multimedia avi- wav files, how can I analyze the the audio data stream from the pci board and drivers? Note that that board has no audio cable, all the video and audio data flows through pci and is filtered and decoded by software. I had a similar bad-audio experience when I insta…

Converting 64 bit to 32 bit
by Guest Rick- 7 replies

I recently bought and installed the OEM versioin of Vista 64 bit, but discovered that I really should have purchased the 32 bit. is there any way to disable the 64 bit and convert it to 32 bit, either through the program itself, or by contacting Microsoft and have them do something, such as sending a patch or some other software reprogramming that they might be able to do if I send them my licensing information, etc. Rick

XP x64 safe mode BSOD
by Guest Mike De Petris- 8 replies

XP x64, it's years that my "Safe Mode" boot does not work, it goes to BSOD. I can't even remember how I lost it, maybe installing graphic drivers. I didn't bother up to know, as I am not able to reinstall a new HaupPauge HVR 4000 tv card (other thread). I wanted to access devices in safe mode to remove them, any other attempt failed, digital tuners are no more available as they was at first installation, I tryed moving the board to different pci slot, uninstall etc. but can't get the digital tuners back, analog tuners work fine, with the initial problem that analog audio is very bad. Which way do you suggest to attempt to "repair" the system? Backup and rein…

No restore points, redux.
by Guest XS11E- 16 replies

Earlier messages posted around July 6th.... Again I had to restore Vista Ultimate 64bit from an Acronis image and again, the restored image had NO restore points. Additional information, MS Update then proceeded to install around 16 updates, both to Office and to Vista and I recognized that some of them I'd installed previously so not only did I lose my restore points but I also either lost the updates or whatever pointer it is that tells MS Update that an update is installed. The image I restored was made just about two hours before the restore because I planned to mess with some software, it didn't work nor did it uninstall so the restore was the …

prompt administrator to allow or deny printing of print job
by Guest jinxcat101- 1 reply

Our organization provides internet access and allows clients to print for a fee. The network is set up similar to this: client---Print Server---Printers. the Cilent OS is Windows 2000 SP4, the Print Server is Windows XP Professional. Inorder to prevent the wasting of pages by users accidentally clicking the print button We would like to have an administrator control whether a print job actually goes to the printer. Is this possible? The print server is Windows XP Professional and there are two printers connected: 1. HP LaserJet 4000TN 2. HP color LaserJet 3500

Not Responding!!
by Guest Clayton- 9 replies
Over the last 6 months or so I have had to format and reinstall Vista 64 wSP-1 a few times due to programs not responding and I am unable to track down the problem. I'm trying to run programs, they do open then pauses for 10 - 15 seconds when trying to close I get not responding then end process message and trying to end process nothing happens. I can not do anything even ctrl/alt/delete. If I wait awhile things come back to normal until it happens again. I have removed the AV software and is still the same, run chkdsk, virus & malware scans all come back as ok. Reading a few posts out there, people are saying it's a common problem. cheers

Will Vista Ultimate 64 Install Cleanly on a 16 GB Box?
by Guest Peter de B. Harrington- 18 replies

Hi: I am building a system for numerical computation. I am using a ECS P45T-A LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard with 4 memory slots and the OCZ 16 GB DDR2 800 Quad Kit. I would like to know in advance will Vista Ultimate SP1 be installable on this system? The reason I asked is that I read reports that Vista has a bug that prevents it from installing on systems populated with more than 2 GBs of RAM. The work around is to remove all but 2 GBs and then install, but clearly in this case that will not be possible. I also would like to imagine that this bug would have been eliminated with SP1. Thanks in advance, Pete

Hauppauge WinTV HVR-4000 XP x64 analog audio problem
by Guest Mike De Petris- 9 replies

I installed an Hauppauge WinTV HVR-4000 pci board in my AMD 3000+ XP x64 pc, all the driver and software installation goes well. Digital tv and radio channels are ok (still to try sat has I need a cable) but I have problem with analog tv and radio channels, the audio is scattered and cpu goes high in this situation. Seems to me strange that digital channels are ok, where analog gives problem, so I think I should update some driver or codec, how do you suggest to proceed? May it be an hardware fault or incompatibility? There is no audio cable, audio goes directly to the pci bus, the four tuners of this board use a new technique that digitizes all the signal t…

Win XP 64 cannot see SATA drive
by Guest keithrider- 2 replies

Hi there My PC has a removable HD Caddy, so I can use other OS. I thought that I would upgrade, and put in a Maxtor DiamondMax 320Gb SATA drive, to use as extra storage, accessible for all the various OS. Windows Vista can see and use it, without me needing to do anything, and also Ubuntu 8. Win XP 64 Pro cannot see it. On boot up, if I look in the SATA bios, the HD is listed, but I cannot do anything as nothing is ‘highlighted.’ But I don’t think this would solve the problem. I have an Optronix MB OP-K9A8PRO-ALF, chipset Via K8T800Pro+VT8237 with an AMD 64 3500, and 2Gb Ram. The Optronix CD is no help, and the company seem to have disappeared now. I co…
