64 bit Vista Machine crashes
by Guest Mary- 3 replies

I have a 64 bit Vista computer. We are running Accuterm on this computer. When working in this application, the computer shuts down. I have run the computer diagnostics. Everything passed. We have been using this application on the computer for the last two months and it has not done this before. It started this several days ago. I am not sure how to proceed to fix this issue. Is this a conflict issue between the 65 bit machine and a very old application? Thanks, -- Mary Baldwin

I am plaining to purchase a brand new Dell T3400 PC which 100% compatible with 64-bit MS Vista OS. The hardware drivers are no worry. I worry if the regular software like MS office 2007 and DVD editing program like Roxio 10 will work under 64-bit OS without dedicate for 64-bit spec. Are anyone tried and works?

Start menu display of documents as a menu ceases
by Guest mdegroff- 0 replies

Start menu display of documents as a menu ceases to function properly on my new x64-based PC with Microsoft Vista Home Premium operating system. The capability of opening a document four or five layers of folders deep by navigating to it from the start menu and clicking on it ceases after opening one or two documents. In the failure mode the next layer of folders opens upon moving the cursor to Documents on the start menu, but no highlighting appears when the cursor is moved onto the newly displayed layer. Clicking on the layer without highlighting closes the entire start menu. Right clicking on Documents and selecting Explore still opens Windows Explo…

DVD/RW Drive & pciidex.sys
by Guest Clayton- 7 replies

I have decided to format and reinstall windows vista 64 bit this morning and when I booted from DVD drive it said Selected boot device not available, the DVD drive is a PATA drive, so I connected a SATA DVD drive and it booted fine, continue with the install and all went well. I plugged the PATA drive into another computer and tried booting from the DVD and it booted fine, so I plugged it back into the problem system and now it boots from the DVD but towards the end of the install I got a BSOD about pciidex.sys I then plugged in a PATA CDRW drive and installed XP instead and that installation went fine, so I am at a lost to figure out my problem, thoug…

Windows Media Network Sharing Service stops responding
by Guest John Z.- 0 replies

Hi All, My problem is that every time I start my computer Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service stops responding and has to close. There is no data associated with the problem. Media Player itself crashes immediately upon opening. I have been looking for a fix for this problem for some time and have yet to find a solution. I have Vista Ultimate x64 with all available updates installed. At this point I am going to just disable the service altogether until a solution is found. This is quite annoying. So much for the Media Center capabilities of Vista Ultimate. System: ASUS P5N32E-SLI MoBo BIOS 1404, Intel E8500 CPU, ASUS EN8800GTX Video Card, ASUS Xonar DX…

Hi - We are trying to port our 32 bit application to x64 platform. We are facing some memory corruption in ntdll. Just wondering are there any good memory corruption tools on x64 platform? I have been googling this but could not find microsoft memory tools for x64. Other question is - While porting application are there any specific flags which needs to be applied We are using Platform sdk x64 for porting and We replaced -DWIN32 to - DWIN64 and /MACHINE:x86 top /MACHINE:x64. Is that the only change applicable to port this application - Ajit

64 Bit compatability issue
by Guest RichardInTN- 7 replies

I know my processor is 64-bit capable But I don't know about the other hardware, and all I get from the manufacturer is a run around. Is there some sort of test software I can download from Microsoft that will let me know if Ultimate (64-bit) will run? I currently have Home Premium (32-bit) but need the access to over 3.5GB RAM that the 64-bit would provide... and figured, since I'm upgrading... may as well go for Ultimate at the same time.

Re: Windows 64-bit is awful. I agree. It is an awful product and I too feel taken in. Yes it works most of the time...but I am disappointed that in many areas MS have dumped the product and it's users. Perhaps I should have know better....as you 'experts' seem to. Vista bullet-proof install steps
by Guest Carlos- 19 replies

Another Vista install, another learning experience. This time it was a Gigabyte mobo, with 790FX (a.k.a. "spider") northbridge and SB600 southbridge, both ATI chipsets. I had not read this kb http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931369 previously so I found myself with a neverending installation. A Vista green screen with mouse pointer and hourglass that would never go away while the hard disk was spinning and spinning. To make a long story short, THIS is what should always be done to have a "safe", bullet-proof and enjoyable Vista installation experience. 1.- Use a standard IDE DVD drive for booting Vista installation, even if you won't use it later. You can …
