How to stop New hardware wizard from appearing all the time?
by Guest Zootal- 3 replies
XP 64. I have an HP deskjet 5940. The only drivers are beta drivers that blue screen windows, so I use the deskjet 990 drivers to print to the printer, which works well. In Device Manager I see Deskjet 5900 series, and HPDeskjet 5900 series entries. I have them set to disabled (which doesn't make any difference) About 5-10 times a day, the Found New Hardware Wizard appears, wanting to help me install software for this printer. It doesn't find it, and at the end I check the checkbox that says "Don't prompt me again to install this software", but that doesn't stop it from coming back again and again. How can I stop the Found New Hardware Wizard from appearin…

Tony - Video resizing guide
by Guest Carlos- 5 replies

Tony, This is a step by step guide for resizing videos. Install VirtualDub x86 and run it once. Install ffdshow 32-bit. Run VirtualDub. Click on File, Open Video File and choose the file you want to "upsize". Now click on Video, Filters... Click on Add, choose resize and click Ok. In the Relative box choose the upsizing percentage, let's say... 200. Click Ok twice. Click on Video, Compression... Choose ffdshow Video Codec, click Configure. Click the "Encode" tab and choose XViD as the Encoder. Click Ok twice. Click on File, Save As Avi, choose the Save folder and click on Save. Wait until the resized file is generated. That's the way I did it to resize a 3…

I settled down to watch my first Blu-ray disc in x64, and I failed miserably. I noticed Corel WinDVD has a new version for Blu-ray, so I bought it (even though the test was uncertain about my operating system and equipment). Sure enough, it locks up and does not work. Any solutions? Thank you! Jim

Installing Ad- Aware 2008 in Vista 64?
by Guest Don- 3 replies
Hey gang, I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I have SpyBot Search and Destroy I have been using . Thought I might add Ad Aware Free version, as I used it back when I was running XP, and noticed the Ad Aware 2008 free version says it will run in Vista 32 or 64 bit. However, when trying to install, it gets through to the " performing software update" notice, and shows time remaining 0 seconds. There is considerable hard drive activity during this for about 3 minutes, then the hard drive activity stops, and it remains on this screen. I have left it here for about 5 minutes afterwards, and it just does nothing. I try to exit setup, get the message to pres…

I have a number of very low-resolution video 'snips' (and a 30" monitor) anybody know of any way of raising the res, something that wouldn't use a century to calculate? Preferably freeware too! Actually, I do have the Nero Suite (7 Premium) but it is not obvious to me if it can do the trick. TIA! Tony. . .

Hi All, I am running Windows XP x64. I have two printers, one is HP and the other is Epson. But, I have not be able to use my printers after installing sp2. I've tried many things to fix this problem. I have reinstalled the lastest drivers, and I've also reinstalled Windows several times. But the only way that works was to delete SP2. Actually, I've found a related topic: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832219/en-us I did according to the instruction, but it didn't help at all. Is there any other things I can try? Please help me! - Nam

I am using Vista Ultimate x64 Build 6001 SP1. Intel® Core2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz 2.66 GHz Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB The behavior described below started suddenly, possibly after the installation of an update. Some of the symptoms are: When I click on System Restore I get (as expected) the dialog box “Windows needs your permission to continue” I click Continue. Apparently nothing happens. I repeat the above and I get the message “The System Restore wizard is already running.” However, it is not visible. Task Manager also remains invisible. When I click on “Turn Windows features on and off” the “Windows Features” box is displayed with “Please wait...” but …

G'day all. I subscribe to a turorial movie site that only enables users to use apple Quicktime to view the movie tutorials. Apple quicktime on my Vista Ultimate 64 machine does not display the control toolbar, such as being able to pause the movie, adjust sound, rewind. This bottom tool menu for Apple Quicktime is completly missing. Yet on my dual boot machine, Windows XP Pro 32 has no problems displaying the entire Quicktime windows with all its controls. Has anyone succeeded in configuring Vista 64 bit to be fully functional with Apple Quicktime? Many thanks. Ron

Why some wav files cannot be played on Vista x64?
by Guest RealCat- 8 replies
Hello. http://misako.co.kr/externaldata/ok.wav http://misako.co.kr/externaldata/error.wav We can go to the control panel-> sound -> sounds tab -> (choose an event ) -> browse , and the click "test" to listen to the wav file. The two files above seem to have the same properties. Ok.wav is played fine but, error.wav cannot be played on the dialog box under Vista x64. I tested the same file on 32bit Windows XP, it was played fine. Do you have any idea why the "error.wav" cannot be played under Vista x64's sound dialog? Not only this error.wav, but there are many other wav files that cannot be played on that dialog or Outlook's rules. This ques…

I have tried the K-Lite and Vista Codec Package x64, but it keeps saying it cannot play the DVD maybe try reducing the screen resolution (which doesn't help). This error message is indicative of no codecs I believe. WMP x32 with K-Lite works great. Thanks!

Install isses with selected programs
by Guest Rick9004- 2 replies

I've used my Ultime 64 bit Vista for a year now. While mostly fine, there are (related I think) issues when trying to install some programs. Example. I have Adobe Web CS3 suite. The Acrobat Pro product refuses to be reconginzed that it is installed. Each and every time I run it, it goes through a full install routine then opens OK. Like wise when I boot my system, the same installer comes up and runs through its paces. Where is the entry to or what entry is missing. I have similar problesm with NY Times reader, and MS PRoject 2003 and others. Addtionally the install for Silverlight does take and each time I go to the Microsoft site I get the…
