2GB of my RAM disappeared

Hello. I am running Vista 64 Home Premium. My relevant system specs: Asus P5B-E mobo (Intel 965 chipset) Q6600 4GB OCZ PC 6400 RAM. I have been running this configuration for 6 months or so and *just* last night, I noticed that Windows is no longer recognizing the full 4GB of RAM. I first noticed something out of the ordinary when gaming, and the game began to stutter badly due to disk swapping, which never happened in the past. When I tabbed out of the game I saw my "All CPU" gadget showed 99% utilization, which again, never used to happen. After rebooting and checking a few more things (including turning down graphics settings on the game), I r…

I have been attempting to install Service Pack 1 on Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I have just reinstalled the operating system and on the previous install I had no problems with SP1. I wonder if anyone else had had problems installing this and, if so what some possible solutions are? Regards Chris Saunders

What Intrusion Detection/Prevention software works on Vista 64?
by Guest Dave W- 0 replies
Currently using Cisco Security Agent (CSA) as host based Intrusion Detection/Prevention software. Went to Vista 64, but found out CSA is not supported. Cisco claims there is no zero day protection software that runs on Vista 64 because Microsoft has not opened up enough API's on Vista 64 platform. So I have searched the internet, but no Intrusion software is listed that explicitely states that it supports Vista 64. (CSA does support Vista 32.) Does anyone know of any Intrusion Detection/Prevention software (with zero day protection) that explicitely states that it supports Vista 64? Thanks ...

Vista 64 bit

About a year and a half ago, I built an amd dual core system, and when vista came out, I installed windows xp pro 64 bit, and vista home premium 64 bit in a dual boot. Everything was fine for a long time. About a month ago I used the screen print option to capture a scrren shot in vista, and it froze up on me, and I had to use the power button to shut down. Now vista freezes up on me all the time, and I have to shut down useing the power button. The xp pro 64 bit on the dual boot works fine, so I am guessing that it is a vista problem. I now have all my parts to build an amd quad core system, but I want to make sure vista is not going to fubar on my new sy…

OEM 32-bit to 64-bit: Apology
by Guest Mark H- 2 replies

I know, it's a newsgroup and people write the darnedest things, but some calmly stick to their guns despite the turmoil and for that I believe they deserve respect. Those few seem to be granted MVP status of which Charlie Russel and Colin Barnhorst have the honor. Yes, they are human and can get upset, just like me, but they number hundreds of calm posts to my individual posts. So, I'm writing this outside the original post because I think I was wrong in my prior recommendations and owe Charlie and Colin an apology. Unfortunately, my recommendations are "out there", so consider this also a retraction. The title ties it to the most recent thread on the s…

32-bit OEM key with 64-bit media
by Guest Jonathon- 16 replies

I recently purchased a computer from Dell with 4GB of ram and vista home premium 32-bit. I've complained numerous times in attempt to acquire a 64-bit version. Today, one of the people at Dell emailed me a link to Microsoft's order media website. I was under the impression that using a 32-bit OEM key for 64-bit media violates the EULA or something. However, I have read that this actually works. Dell doesn't seem to be budging with this issue. Can I legally use my OEM key for a 64-bit edition of windows or do I need to start buying computers from HP?

XP 64 Video capture and Virtual machine USB

That was a mouthful. I finally corrected my Tyan dual opteron bios with 4 gigs memory and reinstalled on a raid 5 (Tyan thunder 2885 with highpoint raid card and a bunch of raptors ) five raptures windows xp 64 and a virtual machine using virtual 2007 I think 64 bit with xp 32 installed. This set up sure beats the dual booting stuff. I have been at it thru all the betas in xp 64 and then Vista. I was able to get almost everything to work on the xp 64, I was not able to get a Microtek 5700 installed on the 64 bit machine but was able to install on another net worked machine and access from the 32 bit virtual machine that was cool. No such luck wi…

Dual boot vista64 premium and Server 2008x86
by Guest steveonan- 3 replies

Hey guys, Can I do a dual boot setup with above software. I currently have vista64 installed on rig and I have a new hard drive to install server on. I am concerned, however, about file accessability, but I would think Server08 would be 64bit. What do you think? Also, unrelated quick question. Does upgrading a cpu and/or mb effect your software licenses? Thanks
