Hi all I have been running Vista quite a while now but have come across a problem. I have search the net but not found a solution that works so wondered if anyone in here has resolved this issue. If go to the start menu and select 'Computer' the relevant windows explorer window appears and explorer.exe uses maxes out on one core and just sits there running. If I minimise the window the processor drops back to %0. I have changed graphics driver and this had no effect. Any suggestions Regards Martin Windows Vista Ultimate 64 SP0 GeFrorce 8800GTX 167.xx WHQL Driver 4 Gb DDR RAM 74 Gb Raptor With Vista on 74 Gb Raptor With page file on 150 Gb Rapto…

vista 64 bit corrupt registry
by Guest RZOA- 15 replies

Hi, 6 months ago I bought vista home premium 64 bit. So I installed it without a problem and then proceeded to install the drivers for my hardware and also installed some software. Some installations displayed a message "this is not certified by windows" and I clicked "continue anyways". About 3 days later I turn on the computer and I get the BSOD with a message that my registry is corrupt. System restore or safe mode didn’t help and the only solution was to reinstall. This scenario happened 4 times in a row. the 4th time, I installed windows at night, went to sleep, turned it back on next morning and I got the BSOD, that’s when I gave up on it and retu…

Removing 64-bit IE
by Guest Rob- 2 replies

I have a 64-bit 2003 Server that is also a Citrix server. It has both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions of IE installed. For some reason, I cannot get one version or the other to be the default. I'm guessing it is because one user in a terminal session will open the 64-bit version of IE and will set it to default while a user in a different terminal session will use the 32-bit version. So, my proposal is to eliminate one of the versions. Since we rely on Flash in some web sites, I'm guessing we need to get rid of the 64-bit version. My question is, can I safely get uninstall it leaving only the 32-bit version to be the default web browser?

Hello, I'm trying to migrate 500 printers from a W2K 32bit standalone server to a W2K3 64bit cluster and have a few questions left unanswered...I have a standalone 64bit test server and till now I didn't get the printers to work nor to be displayed in the printers & faxes window. Though I can see the printer entries under HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/print/printers !? The printmig tool doesn't give any error during backup/restore. No errors in pm.log either... Restoring to a 32bit W2k3 system worked like a charm. All of the printers are HP and are covered by the 64bit Universal Print Driver. and the printmig that was created on the 32bit W2K …

Random reboots while trying to install xp64
by Guest Solar Induction- 9 replies

I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure out why my newly built computer randomly reboots during the Windows XP 64bit installation. The furthest I've ever gotten was to select my time-zone. Some times it even reboots during the initial loading of system files (right after loading F6 SATARAID drivers). I've pulled out all RAM except one stick in DIMM 1. I've disconnected my other 3 SATA HDD's including the 2 in RAID 0. All that's currently left on the mobo is my SATA Raptor, SATA burner, and my 8800GT video card. Even when I pulled out all of my SATA devices and used an IDE burner and an IDE HDD, the system would still randomly reboot. I've flashed the B…

Video/movie creation software
by Guest Dominick- 3 replies

What are the recommended Vista x64 compatible movie/video creation software packages to look at? I like Moviemaker but am interested in alternatives. I mostly need to be able to import videos from my video camera, and pictures, add music, create timelines, add text screens/credits etc. with all the reasonable eye candy and features. I am not up on what is latest and greatest. Thanks for your recommendations!

Windows Vista x64 searches 5 times longer than Windows XP! 1 2
by Guest Dima- 30 replies

Hello! Why does Windows Vista x64 search so long, especially when the progress in the bar is at the end and the ring is rolling (a replacement for the sand glass)? When a search is not "nearly instantaneous" it takes nearly forever. That is, when you ask for an Advanced Search of Computer, the bar first goes half-way across fairly quickly. Then it goes more slowly to about 3/4 of the way, appearing to redraw the bar every second or so, then more slowly still to 7/8, etc., getting closer to the end with each redraw - but never quite reaching the end. I watch hopefully as it gets to the little down-pointing triangle, thinking that it will give up when i…

Hi, I saved all my passwords to a floppy disk and encrypted the doc when I saved it. I used Microsoft Office 2007 Blue Edition. It never asked me for a password. I just tried to open the document and it won't open. Is there something else I can do? The list is 3 pages long. -- Denise ~ If you don't know where you came from, you won't know where you're going.

Screen resolution for Win64
by Guest xcal- 5 replies
Hi group, As Win64 has a better memory management, I suppose that windows screen options are enhanced also, isnt it? For example, normally in Win32 u have Colors 256 colors, 16bits, 32 bits 1024x768 pixels or 1280 x 800 pixels so, the next for Win64 would be Colors 64 bits and something like to say, 2000x1000 pixels comments, ideas? thanks, Carlos

Application Path not set correctly when launching 32-bit EXE with
by Guest JimBiard- 0 replies

I have a 32-bit ActiveX application. I install it on a computer running XP x64. The App Paths registry entries are placed under the HLKM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths subtree. When I try to launch the application via COM (CreateObject in VB), the App Paths entries are not used. I have found that if I manually create the entries under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths subtree, they are accessed and used. Sure seems like a Windows bug to me, but I can't seem to find any mention of it in the Knowledge Base. What gives? Is there a fix?
