by Guest Philip Bondi- 0 replies

Hello to all: The Windows 95 Explore From Here power toy works for the 64-bit Windows explorer as downloaded from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q168113 on Windows XP x64. I've hacked the EXPLORE.INF and renamed it EXPLORE-X64.INF to create a second shell extension for the 32-bit Windows explorer. I hope someone finds this useful. [version] signature="$CHICAGO$" [DefaultInstall] AddReg = Explore.AddReg CopyFiles = Explore.CopyFiles.Inf [ExploreInstall] AddReg = Explore.AddReg CopyFiles = Explore.CopyFiles.Inf [DefaultUninstall] DelReg = Explore.AddReg DelFiles = Explore.CopyFiles.Inf [Explore_Remove] DelReg = Explore.AddReg DelFiles = …

Hello Everyone I have a problem I have a machine with XP X64 installed and Adaptec SAS 4800 HA installed but due to fact that fan has got noisy and I mean VERY noisy and even thou the card is still under warranty. Adaptec in Australia don't want to help me. OK I got me a SAS 48300 which does not have a fan, heres the problem because my motherboard board only have one pci-x slot which means I can only have one card in the machine at a time How do I install the drivers. You see the drivers are different, I don't know how to install the drivers for new card while the old card is still installed. I have never done this sort of thing before, and before say…

Cisco Security Agent does not run on Vista 64
by Guest Dave W- 3 replies

My company depends on Cisco Security Agent (CSA). The current version supports Vista but not Vista 64. The reason Cisco gives is that Microsoft will not share enough information to allow Cisco to create a version of CSA that works on Vista 64. So Cisco blames Microsoft. But, if we deploy Vista, it will be on new PC's. New PC's come with 64-bit OS capable CPU's. But we depend on CSA, so ultimately, the blame for not being able to deploy Vista is Microsoft's fault (according the Cisco). Will Microsoft ever do anything to remedy this situation?

A problem, a solution, a question
by Guest Carlos- 12 replies

Vista x64 SP1 installed in partition C:, D: partition for data, backups, etc. RAID0, running on a jmicron chipset controller, gigabyte mobo #GA-MA790FX-DS5 Problem: Partition D: randomly starts in read-only mode not allowing any write operation on it. A simple reboot fixes it temporarily, until next reboot. Solution (or patch): A little of googling took me here http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/showpost.aspx?pageindex=2&siteid=17&postid=2617353&sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=0 where Greg Knight from MSFT offered a solution in page 2, admitting it is a Vista problem. Somehow Vista gets confused when mounting the 2nd parti…

Send to Mail command doesn't work.
by Guest Ryan K- 2 replies

I'm using Microsoft Office 2007 on a machine running Windows XP Professional x64. I would like to be able to right click on a file, select "send to mail recipient", and have windows open an Outlook message with the file attached. I selected Microsoft Outlook as my default email client, but Windows kept opening Outlook Express instead. I then used the "Add/Remove Windows Compoents" function in control panel to uninstall Outlook Express. Now when I try using the "send to mail recipient" comman, nothing happens. I found an article online that said something about outlook not being compatible with the 64 bit version of Windows Explorer, but it wasn't clea…

server generates Delayed Write errors copying Very large Files
by Guest Phil Lewis- 15 replies

Apologies as this turned out to be rather lengthy.... I run a development engineering lab for a financial services company and we are running into a rather peculiar but very troubling problem on some of our performance servers when copying, moving or backing up very large files, i.e. files greater than about 52 Gigabytes in size (yes GB not MB). Primarily these are SQL Server database files but we also see the same problems copying or relocating large Virtual Server Hard Drive files of that size or larger. The problem is actually an old one that I think has not been dealt with, the end result for us on Windows Server 2000 and Windows Server 2003 R2 is th…

Confused by 32 bit vs 64 bit driver info
by Guest Baysider- 13 replies
In the Vista 64 bit FAQ's on the MS "Help and How-to", it unequivocally states that 64 bit drivers are required for all hardware running on a 64 bit version of Windows. I just purchased a machine with Vista Home premium (64-bit). I separately purchased a wireless adapter card (Linksys WMP300N) that is (a) a 32-bit device according to the mfg spec sheet, (b) has no 64-bit driver that I can find to download, and © is listed as Vista x64 compatible on the Windows Logo'd Product List. These bits of info don't add up. Can someone please explain. Also, do you think the WMP300N is going to work with my x64 Vista?

Calendar Gadget fixed
by Guest Carlos- 0 replies

Some may recall the issue I had some time ago with the Calendar Gadget. Monday was the first day of the week instead of the usual Sunday, in my Spanish (Argentina) localized Vista x64. After the usual 2nd Tuesday monthly MSFT updates now Sunday - to my joy - is the first day of the week! I have checked this in other Vista installations where Sunday is also back to where it belongs. :) Carlos
