Hello NG, we have a 32-bit application build with VB6. This uses a 16-Bit component (highedit.dll). As expected the app did not run under XP x64 an 2003 x64 Editions. Now we tried it with Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition and it runs! How can this be? Sorry for my English Thank you! Oliver

64 bit XP Pro/Mac printer to Pro PC...
by Guest umwhat- 0 replies

The mac pc isn't connecting. I have a feeling the problem is with the security settings on my 64 pro pc. I see there is a "Run As" option available, like in Vista and the Mac operating system. Everything is pointing to my PC blocking the Mac from getting to the printer. What should I look at? I even dropped the Firewall and the Mac couldn't see my PC or the Printer. Printer and File Sharing is enabled and the printer works fine. Access is through a router.

O.T. - troubleshooting the 64bit machine. . .(update)
by Guest Tony Sperling- 4 replies

Hello, this certainly is taking time but it keeps being interesting. The machine came back with a new motherboard and CPU cooler and fans - and it still powered down just as before. I phoned back and managed to catch them with their pants down (so to speak), and made them borrow me a graphics card instead of shipping the thing back and forth indefinitely. A 7650 GT X2 (dual GPU!) was delivered and the machine ran for more than two hours, which is twice the time it managed earlier, so I really thought I'd found the culprit. But then it shut down again, of course. So, this leaves the Seasonic PSU or the CPU itself (Athlon FX62)? So, far it has cost me nothi…

Or do I have to buy the whole pack?

Windows XP Pro 64Bit lifetime?
by Guest Rubicon- 8 replies
Sorry if this has been dealt with before but - what is the Microsoft "lifetime" for Windows XP Pro 64Bit edition? IOW - how much longer will critical and non-critical updates be available for this OS? It is desired to keep this OS on a laptop and a desktop as long as possible because it works so admirably well! Regards and thanks in anticipation. Rubicon ---------

Run Adobe Premiere Elements on Vista 64 bit system
by Guest bboyd23- 3 replies
I'm trying to run Adobe Premiere Elements on my new 64 bit laptop but am having nothing but problems. Adobe can't seem to help me, I talk to one person and get told that it will run in 32 bit compatibility mode and I talk to another guy and he tells me that it won't run at all. When the program runs it keeps freezing, sometimes it trys to load but then stops. Any ideas out there? Anybody else using this program successfully?

default xml icon missing
by Guest Russell- 2 replies
At some point, the icon displayed for xml files got changed to the icon used for files with no association in Windows. I had a similar problem with .htm and .html files, but was able to fix it using a program I found through a Google search. It fixed the registry directly, since just assigning the icon in iexplore.exe didn't fix it. Apparantly, no one has done the same for xml files. Since I don't know what the program did to reassociate the file type with the normal blue "e" icon, I don't know how to fix the xml files. I've already tried pointing to the first icon in msxml3.dll, which is what it used to use: Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Fold…

Vista x64 cannot connect to Windows 2003 x86 printer share
by Guest Jason Chambers- 4 replies

Hi All, I'm trying to access 64bit printer share that have been installed on a Windows 2003 x86 server to my Vista Ultimate x64, but I continually get "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed. (error 0x0000007e)". I have added the x64 drivers by doing the following: From my Vista x64 machine, surf to the \\server\printers. Right clicked and went to server properties. On the driver tab, added a new x64 driver. Pointed to the fresh downloaded driver for HP LaserJet 4250 made May 6th. After doing this, I still get that error message above when I try to add the printer share to my Vista machine. Any suggestions?

Half of the times I boot vista 64 bit up it is absolutley fine. The other half is something which has very much plagued me for the last week and beginning to stress me out a bit. When it goes wrong: All goes well and the vista login bars go by and then suddenly I get a black screen then my monitor tells me it isn't connected to the PC. I'm running a Palit 8800GT. I updated the drivers to old and new and still had this issue. After about 10 seconds of this no connection the PC reboots and normally this time it will load into vista just fine and tell me that it has had a 'bluescreen' problem with the following information: BCCode: d1 BCP1: FFFF…

Upgrade Possible from Home Premium to 64 Bit?
by Guest Adam- 8 replies
Hi, I currently have an Intel Core2 CPU E6600 @ 2.40 GHz, running Vista Home Premium (32 Bit). I use this computer mainly for gaming and recently picked a new game up which was bogging my system down a bit. I purchased 2 GB more of RAM, but recently found out that a 32 bit OS won't utilize more then the @ GB I had before. (I'd like to use all of the 4 GB I have installed now). So I suppose my question is three part. Is my Processor capable of running a 64 bit OS? Which edition should I look at purchasing? And will it be an upgrade or a complete clean installation? Thank you for any help.

Vista 64-bit Compatibility
by Guest BKGrch- 6 replies
I'm in the market for a new computer and was wondering about Vista 64-bit's compatibility with programs, hardware, etc. I'm an architecture student running AutoCAD, Rhino, Maya, Adobe CS3. Are these compatible with Vista 64-bit? I've heard that Vista 64-bit is a faster, more powerful OS than what I've been using (XP Pro) but I don't want to switch if 64-bit compatibility is still in its infancy (at least for the applications I'm using). I've read many threads on this subject, but am apologetically still unsure (it's a lot of money for a grad student to invest in, and many discussions on this subject are relatively old). Thank you for any answe…
