Upgrade from 64bit Vista Home Premium to Ultimate
by Guest Karabri- 2 replies

Is the upgrade to Ultimate from Home Premium specific to 64 bit or 32 bit? I have 64 bit Home Premium and I need to go to ultimate. Do I need to be careful which upgrade I pick, or is there just one upgrade on the market that includes both versions? Does anybody know? I'd appreciate any advice...thanks!

http://blogs.technet.com/virtualization/archive/2008/05/20/hyper-v-rc1-release-available-on-microsoft-download-center.aspx Download at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7EDAA89F-9F64-488D-93C0-858D2D8799DF&displaylang=en And technically on topic, since it's only available on x64 systems, of course. ;) Seriously, I've been running Hyper-V for a while now, and with this RC1 release, I've moved all my production virtualization to Hyper-V. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel

Vista Home Premium 64 and USB Drives
by Guest BP- 6 replies

I've a couple USB external Hard Drives and a USB Flash Drive that I use from time to time. If I connect only one to the system all works well, but if I connect any 2 at the same time Windows Explorer freezes so I can't read any, let alone copy between them (I've never tried to attach all at the same time). Is this normal? Is there some setting I should make - or unmake somewhere - so I can attach all at the same time? As noted in the subject line I have the 64 bit version of Vista Home Premium, and 4 or 5 free USB 2 ports on the 2 attached hubs.

Fable Lost Chapters on XP x64 system Memory Error
by Guest Jikoku- 4 replies

I just purchased this game yesterday, thought it would work with my system and look real nice. Here's the problem, I was able to install it fine, but when I try to run the game it gives me a Memory Error (0x0611) Not enough RAM or virtual RAM. How do I get the game to detect the memory? So I can play this game. Note: This is the only game that has ever given me this error. It shows that it detected my vid card and cpu speed, but 0MB RAM. This is my system if it helps. Windows XP Pro x64 AMD Athalon X2 6000+ 4 GB RAM (2 GB virtual) 2x Nvidia 8800GT in SLI 500 GB HDD Creative X-FI gamer edit.

Installing IDE Hard Drives Using XP PRO x64
by Guest jpan71855- 3 replies

This is my first install with a few problems to iron out. All of my SATA drives installed just fine, no matter what I do with the IDE drives the hardware profile will show the Seagate and of course it comes up installing new hardware, but here's the kicker? My Computer icon only shows the SATA hard drive & SATA DVD's? What happened to my Seagate? I have 2 of them and tried them both, they are small drives one is 10.2 and the other one is 12.6? I forgot my motherboard when I filled out my profile it's an ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe. I have all the updates installed including service pack 2, any ideas here? Thanks! Jim P.

Intellipoint help please?
by Guest XS11E- 19 replies
I have Vista Ultimate 64 with MSFT's Intellimouse Explorer 4.0a mouse and Intellipoint software 6.20.182.0 When I turn off my PC I usually lose the pointer speed setting and find it's been reset to the middle postition which is faster than I want. Anyone know of a similar problem or, better yet, a fix? FWIW, all the other setting seem to stay the same, scrolling speed, button assignments, etc. haven't changed. -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://improve-usenet.org

Not enough server storage is available to process this command
by Guest mapi-user- 3 replies

I am running into an application that does a lot of local file IO activity. I was able to narrow it to a simple operation that fails consistently. The system is Windows Server 2003 x64 bit edition, with Service Pack 2 installed. When copying several files using Windows Explorer, the copy operation proceeds for sometime and almost always fails with a file - ususally over 100MB in size. Cannot copy file.exe: Not enough server storage is available to process this command I have tweaked registry entry for IRPStacksize (set to 20, 40, 50). Always the same result. I read somewhere that a few folks installed SP1 and the problem went away. We are actually u…

Re: Yet another question about x86 & x64 Vista Upgrade I think you should be asking if its best to upgrade (?) to any of the Vista flavors. I have had an association with Vista Ultimate since it's release. The 64 bit system install was a real nightmare until I finally did the unthinkable and got it to install. It operates slightly slower than XP on my approved systems. The system with the 32 bit OS is noticably slower that the 64 bit OS system. The 64 bit system has consistently been slow in file transfers and other functions. Also MS updates are looked upon with dread. Each of the larger updates have resulted in totally unexpected problems. …

My motherboard is an ASUS P4C800-E-Deluxe and the CPU is a Socket 478. Can anyone tell me what CPU I need to get buy in order to install the 64 bit? Or is there something in the BIOS that needs to be adjusted? thanks Ron

Windows on IntelCore2duo, lots RAM
by Guest free4trample@gmail.com- 7 replies

Good Evening. I am trying to figure out if I should use winXP-64bit or Win Vista. I do allot of coding in C and would like access to over 4GB of RAM. I use Intel Core 2 DUO e6420 CPU. My use patters are: 1) Scientific Computing 2) Office apps, Video viewing, compression 3) Video games With DX10 Vista seems to be a better choice, however I kind of like XP for its flexibility, I dont like the Vistas constant walkthroughs and semi automated wizards... to me they sometimes get annoying... Also it seems that Vista still has some compatibility issues, or at least it did when i played with it couple months ago Any advice is appreciated. Any suggestions? Th…

I have a relatively new HP Core 2 Duo laptop that shipped with Vista Ultimate 64. It's in dire need of a reformat and reinstall of the OS -- checked with HP and there are no Vista SP1-Integrated restore discs available so my options are to restore and then apply SP1, or, just go with XP Pro 32. The 64-bit Core 2 Duo with Vista has been OK, but more sluggish than I was expecting -- would I experience even slower performance by going to XP Pro 32? I don't know what, if any, advantages I'd be giving up by not going with a 64-bit OS. While my laptop shipped with Vista-64; XP drivers are available from the HP support site. After a year of sluggishness…

Scheduled tasks - access denied, no permission
by Guest Don Culp- 7 replies

Win XP x64 -- I'm trying to use the task scheduler to run a batch file. After I set this up and click OK, I always get the message, "An error has occurred while attempting to set task account information. The specific error is: access is denied. You do not have permission to perform the requested operation." The "Run as" box specifies "T3400\Administrator" where T3400 is the computer name. I am logged on as Administrator but I don't have a logon password, since no one else has access to this computer. This same setup works OK under XP Pro. Thanks, Don Culp

IE7 Black screen on Vista Ult 64-bit
by Guest Jssamp- 0 replies

I have an HP Pavilion dv9500 with Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I have intermittent problems that are getting really irritating. I use IE7 32-bit browser because the Flash Player won't work in the 64-bit IE7. Sometimes for no reason I can discern IE opens any more new tabs or windows with a black screen. It seems that everything is else is still happening, ie. if I was entering a transaction or purchase I can't see that it completed but if I restart IE and check on it, it was completed. Of course it's useless to me anyway, I have to restart. Usually closing all IE windows is sufficient and I can start IE again and it works for a while.…
