operating system Chip

I think it is a good idea to develop operating system on the electronic chip this idea will - solve historical error in building the PC computer and it will Limit the illegal copying of the operating system . - reduce the danger of viruses that strike operating systems and reduce the time needed to load the operating system . To clarify my idea in detail We should take these things in mind - operating system is part from computer - We can divide the operating system (the basics of data, identification data and update information) - There is no important reason to booting computer from Hard Disk. Now what are the new idea ? - Id…

by Guest James.F- 8 replies

Hey I have a question, I did an anytime upgrade to Vista Ultimate from Home Premium 32 bit edition. I wanted to know if I get a 64 bit media CD of Home Premium if my anytime upgrade will upgrade it to the 64 bit version of Vista Ultimate. Also my friend has a 64 bit version of Vista Ultimate and I was wondering if my Vista Ultimate 32 bit CD Key would be valid if I attempted to install using that CD. Thanks for any answers James

dual-boot VUx64 with Ubuntu 64-bit?
by Guest Chris Cowles- 5 replies
Does anyone here have experience with a dual-boot installation of Vista Ultimate x64 and Ubuntu x64? I want to start dabbling in Ubuntu but don't have a spare machine and don't want to disrupt my routine use of VUx64. I get the impression that Ubuntu has a Windows-based installer that permits dual-boot. True? If so, is it relatively painless, at least with respect to not messing up my existing Windows install? Thanks in advance. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL

New install of XP SP2 Home Edition. All works except sound. Can't get a peep out of it. Mobo is Abit/nVidia AN-M2 with AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor. All attempts to install driver from CD which came with mobo fail. First failure said "Device's co-installer is invalid". Any suggestions to resolve this will be very welcome, I am at a dead end.

What is Windows XP 64 bit good for?
by Guest nospam- 13 replies
In my opinion, nothing! Other than not being able to find necessary hardware drivers, this OS is useless at this point. Downloaded yesterday Ubuntu Linux 8.04 and I could not believe how wonderful this operating system is, especially because it's free!!! Now I have to ask myself why did I purchase Windows XP 64 bit? To gain what? well, this wasn't the first time I screwed up so, to make a long story short, I am selling my copy of Windows XP 64 bit. You think $95 is fair asking price?

by Guest Denise- 8 replies

I was given no option as to where the WOW should be placed when they were downloaded and installed. They were automatically placed on the D partition of my main drive. Why were they placed there? Can they be safely moved to my C drive? I want my program files to all be on my C drive. -- Denise ~ If you don't know where you came from, you won't know where you're going.

I have just added a 1TB WesternDigital MyBook World Edition to the house network, the XP 32 bit machine have no problem accessing this device via \\name\\directory but my own XP64 machine refuses to connect using this method or the IP address. I can access the configuration Wizard via IE7 with no problem using the IP. I have also noticed the other machines on the net (same workgroup) do not appear in my network. Is there any way of 'fixing' this?

Small problems after SP1 install
by Guest xiowan- 1 reply
Hello all: My pc is working great with Vista Ultimate 64 bit but I have two minor problems that I think may be related to the SP1 update. I used the Microsoft SP1 Update CD rather than download on a slow 56k connection and the install went fine. Since the install of SP1 I have occasionally noticed intermittant very, very brief freezes of live tv in Media Center. It isn't really a problem, more just an annoyance. Looking back thru my Windows Updates I noticed an Intel Graphics Media driver was installed after SP1. The date on the driver update was Feb., 2008. There are no graphics updates later than Jan.27, 2008 on the Intel site for my board so I h…

%ProgramFiles% resolves to "C:\Program Files (x64)" for "Local System" user %ProgramFiles% resolves to "C:\Program Files" as a normal user but it resolves to "C:\Program Files (x64)" as the "Local System" user. I wonder why this is happening? I'm using "set" to display all the environment variables. I'm using SysInternals's PsExec to run cmd as Local System.

Has anybody tested Diskmon (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/sysinternals/bb896646.aspx) in Windows Vista? You can also minimize DiskMon to your system tray where it acts as a disk light, presenting a green icon when there is disk-read activity and a red icon when there is disk-write activity." Carlos

Install disc download
by Guest Anthony Frost- 1 reply
I have a 64 bit machine at work with a valid key but it was built by an OEM supplier in Germany so I don't think the key will be linked to any specific account and is a few years old. I recently had to install the FTP software under IIS and then came to realize that this systems install disc was lost before I began working with the company. Does anyone know if it's possible to download an install disc ISO as long as I don't need a key, or do I have to buy a whole new cd with key? I know there are sites where I could download a cd, but is it legal? I know this may be a bit more of a lawyers realm, but any help would be appreciated.

transferring office
by Guest S- 5 replies

Hello, On another thread someone suggested the best way to transfer Office 2003 is to install it from the cds. I am wondering what order to do things to get the license transferred 1. Install on new 2. Use settings transfer wizard (which will also transfer the internet connection (?)) 3. Uninstall on old 4. Activate on new. I would really like to know how the license is transferred. I cannot have both old and new on the internet at the same time. S.
