I've just upgrade my daughter's computer with a AMD Phenom x4, it has a full upgrade and I've purchased and installed a Windows XP x64 that I've fully tested in both of my home computers, everything is working fine except. - SIMS2 (the game) does not properly starts and shutdown itself, after uninstall it I've seen the first blue screen in my live in Xp x64, something wrong with graphic card libraries, is there any safe way to install it, or it is necessary to install a wmware with a XP x32 machine??? or any other tweak?? etc. - I've a Microsoft wireless natural keyboard and mouse, working fine with my other computers, and another one with this last co…

Vista home premium x64 crashes with no error message or log entry
by Guest Norm1320- 9 replies

I've been struggling for 2 weeks now to get the x64 version of windows to run properly. It's a clean install with no added software yet. It will run for anywhere between 5 second and 20 hours after reaching the desktop. When it crashes, everything stops immediately except for the mouse pointer, which will continue to function for a few minutes usually. The HD makes no sounds to indicate that it's trying to do anything. When I hit the reset button and it loads up again, I check the error logs and there is nothing there for the time of the crash and no errors leading up to the crash. I have removed all hardware that is not critical to running the syste…

Ribbons Screensaver has stopped working
by Guest Ryan- 14 replies

Hello, I have a very odd problem. I love the Ribbons screensaver but since installing Vista x64, any time it kicks in and is removed by a mouse move or a key press, Vista says the "ribbons screensaver has stopped working" but has no solutions for it. I've tried to google for answers but only found a few links to others with the same problem with no apparent solution available. My PC is.. Vista Ultimate x64 Asus P5K-E Wifi Intel Core 2 Duo 8400 EVGA 8800GT 512mb not sure what else might be relevant. all drivers current as of the date of this post. Here's the info I got about it from the Problem Reports and Solutions control panel... Pr…

Laptop noise
by Guest Saulo- 8 replies
Since I intalled Windows Vista Business 64-Bits in my Acer Aspire 5630-6091 I can hear a strange noise (I think from processor). The laptop config is an Intel Core-2-Duo with 1Gb RAM. With Windows XP I didn't have this problem. This is my second laptop with this problem and with the same behavior: only in normal use of Windows. The most stange is when I start Windows Vista in secure mode: the noise stops. In my point of view, this is a problem with drivers of Windows Vista. When I'm in a quite place this noise is horrible. Please, any idea of how can I solve this problem without removing Windows Vista and changing it to Windows XP????

Vista 64 Bit - Media Centre & support
by Guest hardergm- 0 replies

Folks I have Topfield PVR and it is brilliant albeit getting long in the tooth and would like to replicate its functionality and more in a appropriately provisioned workstation. Given that the Intel Penryn Quad core processors are now available, and the price of 1TB HDDs are falling, its time to jump into a a media centre workstation (I also want to use it for normal computing functions (Office, Project, Visio etc). I'd like to use Vista in its 64 bit mode to overcome the addressing limitations. I am in Australia and we use PAL-B as the television standard and have a myriad of standards for what is called Standard definitiona nd high definition digit…

Hey, folks. I'm off to Redmond for the annual MVP Summit, and won't be around much this week. We are kept well and thoroughly busy, and it seems like there's something just about every evening as well. So logons here are going to be limited. OTOH, you all do quite well without me when I disappear for a bit, so I leave you in the more than capable hands of our regulars. Have fun, and don't leave the house a mess for when I get back. <grin!> -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel

BSOD STOP: 0x000007E WUDFRd.sys
by Guest Clayton- 4 replies

Hi, I am having problems with Nokia PC Suite when connecting my phone via Bluetooth to the PC, every time the phone tries to connect I get the following BSOD message 0x0000007E with a reference to the WUDFRd.sys I have tracked down a hotfix from Microsoft Windows6.0_KB933607_x64.msu that addresses the WUDFRd.sys but hasn't made any difference. I have the iPod listed under portable devices in device manager also and a few more entries referring to my internal card reader and they all seem to be operating ok. I have emailed Nokia support last week about this and they have not returned my email so I don't know what's up there. Thanks

Vista upgrade issues
by Guest Blacky- 5 replies

Hi I just received a new computer from Dell running vista basic. Everything was going fine until I purchased a vista business edition thru the Education Dept. I installed the business version but somehow I am now running 2 x operating systems - Basic and Business. When the computer boots it asks each time which system to start - basic or business - it does this on a black screen. I have now decided I prefer home basic but don't know how to remove the business operating system - if this is possible?? I don't have great skills with computers but I am learning (the hard way!) If anyone can help I would appreciate it??

Hi, I have Windows Picture & Fax Viewer. I also have Nero Photo Snap. Nero Photo Snap is part of Nero Suite which I installed several months ago. Since then, Nero Photo Snap tries to open pictures but then it always gives me a message that says that it can't open the pictures, any picture. I just made an interesting discovery, after *two years* with my Maxim PC "Dream Machine Plus." I had built an x64 dream server with a Tyan K8WE (S2895) motherboard, Dual Opteron 270s (all I could afford at the time), 8 GB of memory, a *brand new, latest and greatest AMCC 3ware 9950 SE RAID controller, and four new Hitachi drives. This RAID controller was one of the first RAID controllers on the market to support SATA 2 naively. At the time I originally installed the drives.I called Hitachi Global Technologies technical support to make certain that the drives were configured to run in SATA 2 mode. I was assured that they shipped as SATA 2 drives. I proceede…

First of all sorry if my English isn't very good as I'm not sure how I can say in English (El reloj se atrasa) so I try with the clock is late... Hi, I have one problem with Vista 64 bits. I have a Intel Quad Core CPU with ASUS P5K motherboard and 4GB of RAM. My problem is that the PC clock is late while running windows. I have a curious example: I boot my PC and sync the clock, then I play World of Warcraft and I see that the WoW in game clock goes ok or delays some minutes but when I exit the game, the clock in the sidebar is half an hour delayed for example. First I thinked it could be a hardware problem, but I think this case is a little strage for bei…

Hi, we use different W2K3 version (x86, IA64, x64), all with current hotfixes and SPs. BUT: When I run this command on IA64 remotely (locally NO problem) I receive the following error message: ERROR: Code = 0x80041002 Description = Not found Facility = WMI Does anybody have an idea, whats wrong here? Thanks and Best Regards, Thorsten

Media Player - 32 or 64 bit?
by Guest Don- 2 replies
Hey gang, This may be a dumb question on my part... I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit, I know there is a windows media player listed under programs x86, and under just programs. I take it, that is a 32 bit wmp listed under the programs x86, and a 64 bit wmp listed under just programs? So, if I have wmp open, is there an easy way to tell, which one is open from within wmp? Like in IE7, if you click on help and about, it lists the 64 bit version as 64 bit, anything similar in WMP? Thanks, -- Don
