64-bit Server 2008 for a Windows Printer server
by Guest Jim Helfer- 4 replies
I am buying a new machine to be our printer server, and we are considering whether to go with 32- or 64-bit 2008. The server will most likely be a HP Proliant DL 360. It will host about a dozen printers, including plotters. We have some people doing big production print jobs that take a lot of time, so I would really like to increase printing performance. Is there any advantage to going to 64 bit for this role? If so, would adding memory over 4 gig help at all? thanks Jim

Delayed Write Failed
by Guest BroncoAvsFan- 5 replies

I am runing Windows XP Prof Ver. 2002. Yesterday I downloaded SP 3. First off, I know little about computers. I recently installed a new Western Digital SCSI 500 GB hard drive. It installed and formated without problem other than I could only do this as a dynamic Disk. After transfering all files to this new drive (317 GB) and thinking everinthing was fine, I erased the old files from 2 other hard drives they were on. About a day later I got this error: {Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\LanmanRedirector (F:\$Mft). The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardwar…

Remote Desktop
by Guest TJAC- 1 reply

Recently we have had several people experience a difficult time connecting to remote desktop. I had the trouble a couple weeks ago from home when trying to connect to my computer at work, but suddenly it started to work again, but I'm not convinced it was anything I did. Now someone else in our company is having a hard time connecting. When he tries to connect he receives the message that it cannot find the computer, as if the computer at work has been turned off. However, if you remote to his computer within the building, you can connect just fine. Both boxes are checked within the Remote Desktop area. It's only when you are outside the building…

Webcam Drivers
by Guest Jim Morrison- 5 replies
Hello, I am having problems installing my USB2.0 PC Camera on my Vista x64 Ultimate. Apparently there are no 64-bit Vista drivers available, only Vista 32, so my question is if it is by any means possible to install the 32-bit driver as my understanding is that Vista x64 should still be able to run 32-bit software? The Vista 32-bit driver installs fully when I run it, with a note that the driver cannot be verified, but when I plug the cam in the system cannot recognise cam. Another option would be to try and run the XP driver in XP compatibility mode, would that be possible? And finally, is there a generic webcam 64-bit driver I could try installing? Thx!

Hi, This is a new deployment and AD setup. Setup 1 2003 AD server SP1, after that, install x64 2003 server on another new hardware to install Exch07. Unfortunately, I got an error msg when trying to dcpromo(secondary AD) on X64 2003 server and I got the following error msg. I also did adprep /forestprep & /domainprep on the DC. The operation failed because: The Active Directory installation wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for installing windows 2003 server. Use the Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and domain. For more information about using the ADprep, see Active Directory help. The version of Acti…

mapped drive question
by Guest quincy451@yahoo.com- 3 replies

two windows XP x64 machines...both configured the same. Mapped drive in both directions. In one direction. Things work fine. The other direction. Larger files of a few hundred meg fail with access denied error. smaller one line test files work fine in this direction. SP2 is installed on both machines. There is a fix in SP2 for a issue like this. Any ideas? Second question: Any way to enable logging and access the logging information on these type of operations? Thanks, David

Speed up Vista boot by using two cores
by Guest Carlos- 5 replies
This article http://www.techwarelabs.com/articles/editorials/dirtyvista/index_2.shtml Step Three, items #1, 2, and 3 states that Vista normally uses only one core during boot, even if you have a dual or quad core processor, and that by enabling the additional cores you can get a boot time reduction. I will quote the important part: "Click on Start then type "MSCONFIG" hit enter then click continue through the UAC we talked about earlier. This opens a small screen containing some interesting startup options, playing with this will allow you to start and stop most things that run in the background. The startup tab tells you which company each service belo…

by Guest Denise- 7 replies

Hi, I have XP Pro x64 so I'm posting here but I'm not sure if this is the right forum. I downloaded and installed a trial version of DriverGenius. I decided to uninstall it but when I boot up my computer, a window opens for me to purchase the program. How can I get this window to stop popping up? I cleaned the registry using TweakNow RegCleaner Std Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal but the box still pops up. Any ideas? -- Denise
