PerformanceCounterCategory.Create() takes 3 minutes to add a new category!! If I run PerformanceCounterCategory.Create() on my development machine it only takes a few seconds. But on remotely monitored machines it takes 3 minutes! Is this because the other machines are remotely monitored? Something else? What all can make PerformanceCounterCategory.Create() take 3 minutes to add a new category??

Hard drive problems with winxp x64
by Guest dtriana- 2 replies

This is the story... I recently bought some new parts for an old computer, one of them being a sata drive. I went through the hassle of formatting that and now I have x64 on that drive and it is my primary boot drive. But I have two other drives from the old computer that are IDE. I have them plugged in one as master and one as slave. All three hardrives show up on device manager and disk manager. But the slave IDE drive, 300gb, is not showing up on "my computer", and in disk manager it says that it is unallocated. This hard drive was slave to the other IDE drive with my old set up and work perfectly fine. I used a certain disk recovery program t…

Running Windows XP Pro 64-bit edition. I notice that my primary hard drive is Disk 0. If I add another hard disk to the system, the primary hard drive becomes Disk 1! And still works!!! I thought the hard and fast rule was that disk 0 ALWAYS stays disk 0 REGARDLESS of whether or not an additional hard drive gets installed. The additional drive in my case is a removable drive which sits inside a drive bay which replaces the CD-ROM. Am I missing something?

Is XP 64 safe? Will it make me happy 1 2
by Guest Borg Vomit- 27 replies

I want to use more ram (8 gig) so I plan to switch to XP 64 bit, if I do, what will I break? I know I can't "upgrade" and that I have to re- install the OS. Can I use the same applications, the same anti-virus? Am I going to have device driver issues like with Vista? I noticed a couple of posts about RAID issues; I *will* need RAID on this box. Is XP64 still supported by most Mobo mfrs? Will Visual Studio work the same? What will I give up? I loved Windows 2000 server but I couldn't find anti-virus and other server level software at a reasonable cost. So I switched to XP, but XP can't handle the big ram mobo's. Windows 2008 sounds great for Virtu…

Good morning! Then I installed Vista now I get a side by side conguration error when I try to start MSFS x I have checked my video driver. If you feel comfortable with SP1 and you think that you won't go back to pre-SP1, there is this executable in %windir%\system32 named vsp1cln.exe that you can run in order to delete all those "old" files. Carlos

Problem with RAID/Install
by Guest mjd- 10 replies

I am having a problem installing XP64 on a RAID 5 setup. I have: XP64 (June 2006) Intel DX38BT BIOS = 1521 (latest) Intel RAID driver = 7.8.0.1012 (latest, XP64 version) Intel QX9650 Corsair DDR3 RAM - 2 x 2GB Western Digital SATA-II 7200RPM 160GB x 4 In a non-RAID setup XP64 installs and runs perfectly. When I switch to RAID5 via CMOS settings and use the F6 driver installation method the installation fails. I have the F6 drivers on floppy. F6-ing at the beginning of setup correctly asks for drivers at the appropriate time. Selecting ICH9 (the appropriate disk hardware on the board) is accepted at the time of driver loading, but when it gets to…

Mainstream laptops with 64-bit Vista and > 4GB RAM
by Guest guuwwe@hotmail.com- 6 replies

Any idea when mainstream/retail laptops start using 64-bit Vista and more than 4GB RAM? Currently, I rarely see any 64-bit laptops in retail, and even when I see them they come with hardware limit of 4GB on RAM and installed 2-3 GB RAM. I am not asking about special-order laptops but retail/mainstream.

Recently re-installed Vista x64 - now doesn't shut down correctly
by Guest Carol Steele- 9 replies

I recently (Thursday) re-installed Vista x64 because I experienced major issues which turned out to be the RAID drivers on the Gigabyte controller on my board. Switching them to to the Intel controller instantly solved all the problems I had experienced previously. Over the past few days, every time I booted it would tell there are new updates - and yesterday it also downloaded and installed SP1. Every since then, when I shut down I briefly get an error message flash up onto the screen right at the end and then Vista will reboot instead of shutting the machine off. During this reboot, it now takes me to a screen where I have to select the 'Boot Windo…

by Guest Seidell23231- 21 replies

Hello ALL, About 8 months ago I purchased Vista Ultimate Upgrade, because I was upgrading the PC I had than from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate. Upgraded all went smooth no problems. Fast forward to today. The old PC has passed on and a New PC (HP Pavillion Elite m9150f with Intel Core 2 Quad) is home and getting setup. The new PC came with Vista Home Premium 32-Bit. I have upgraded it to Vista Ultimate 32-Bit, BUT I want to use the 64-Bit since my PC can handle it. My Question is this ~~ Can I upgrade to Vista 64 with my current allocation? If YES, please explain, if NO please explain how to fix so I can use 64-Bit. Thanks ~~ Gunny

Memory use at startup
by Guest stuartray- 1 reply

Hi All, I am using Win XP x64. When I startup my computer, the memory (I have 768M) drops down to about 300M and then below 150M, sometimes falling below 40M. But every once in a blue moon, the memory starts at above 500M and falls to around 350M. Any ideas on how I can get it to do this all the time, instead of infrequently? I use Diskeeper 2008 (on all the time, but does not appear to affect memory usuage), and AVG AV. -- Stuart

I get this error in my events; Event 15016, HttpEvent Unable to initialize the security package Kerberos for server side authentication. The data field contains the error number. It's no big deal and there are 200+ KB articles on Kerberos. I just wondered if anyone has saw this before.
