I have XP Pro on my PC at home. I am using a Linksys Router WRT54G for wireless access with a laptop I bring home from work. I can remote from the laptop into my work server with no problem so I believe my router is configured just fine, but for some reason I can NOT remote into my PC in the other room at home. I have set up Remote access to accept outside access, blah, blah....I have Service Pack 2 installed. Anyone have any ideas.....Linksys just said they couldn't help with the remote access end of things. HELP

Has anyone experienced issues with the 64-bit driver for the Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0? When connecting the mouse through a USB to P/S2 adapter, the mouse behaves erradictly. The cursor jumps ramdonly and the functions assigned to the thumb buttons spontaneously activate. After plugging mouse directly into USB socket, mouse performs normally.

Used Space in C: Keeps Growing 1 2
by Guest Ken Triebold- 30 replies
- 1.2k views
My new Vista Home Premium x64 computer is about a week old now. One thing I noticed is that the used space in the C drive keeps growing. My old XP machine had about 12 GB of used space (out of 40 GB). I transferred all the files and folders from that machine to this new machine, but many of the programs in the old machine have not been installed in the new machine, so if anything, I might expect the used space on my new machine would be less than 12 GB. Now it is possible that Vista itself takes up a lot more space than XP did, so that could be part, but not all of the reason. Anyway shortly after installing Vista on the new machine I checked the amount…

I am doing a completely new install of x64 but when I try to do the update for net 2.0 and 3.0 I get the same error and the pgms quit. The error is : "Error 25015. Failed to install assembly 'M:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Microsoft.VisualBasic.Vsa.dll' because of system error: The device is not ready." I have even tried to download the updates and install manually but also not successful. Any advice? Mark

why would I want to keep it? There are some 900 of them of various sizes on my PC in WinXP pro x64. One of them became misregistered somehow and I can't find it to fix it to it's home program. Do I even need them? Just wondering.

Steam games require access to the server initially so there is probably a message behind the game screen asking if you want to allow HL2.exe or whatever.

x64 print drivers on x86 Print Server
by Guest Sean Donnelly- 2 replies
I am running a Windows 2003 Std 32 bit version (running AMD 64bit processors). I have a handful of graphics workstations running 64 bit Windows XP that need to connect to the print server as we track through 3rd party software printing for cost control. I have tried to first load the 32 bit version of say an HP 8100 PCL 6 driver, and then load the 64 bit version of the same HP 8100 PCL 6 driver. It will not load if I go into the sharing tab and load additional drivers for x64 as it tells me the folder where the x64 driver is located does not contain information on the driver. If Igo through server properties and attempt to load the driver it finds the prin…

Vista 32 or 64
by Guest Bull- 8 replies

I have an Athlon64 PC running WindowsXP64 and am tired of the lack of support for it. It seems like very little consumer software works on it. My bad. So, I'm going to replace it and I'm wondering support for 64 bit PCs is any better on Vista than XP. I've been burned once so I'm not eager to buy another dead end, unsupported OS, but I was just wondering if the PC world is ever going to move to 64 bit. At least one data point is that Norton 360 is supposed to work on Vista 64 even though it doesn't on XP64. But what about Linksys device drivers? I had to go hunting the internet to find a device driver for my Linksys wireless adapter because Linksys do…

Can't Install Downloaded Applications
by Guest Crayz- 12 replies

Hi! I'm having problems installing applications in VISTA Ultimate 32-bit or 64-bit. After I do a clean install of VISTA Ultimate, I can't install any applications if I've downloaded them from the Internet through VISTA. As an example, if I go to the Adobe website, and download Adobe Reader for VISTA, I can't install it. When I try to install it, VISTA tells me that it's an unsigned application, and asks if I really want to install it. Once I click "RUN ANYWAY", VISTA gives me a dialog box that says APPCRASH with the module causing the error as Adobe Reader. If I download Adobe Reader onto my laptop (which runs Windows XP Pro), and I transfer it to a USB driv…

ProgramFiles Path Test on x64
by Guest Jerald Pratt- 6 replies

I've got a problem with a bat script where I'm test to see if an env variable has been defined. On 32-bit OS this works fine but now I'm seeing problem on 64-bit Windows (Vista). Here is the example line: if DEFINED JAVA_HOME ( echo JAVA_HOME: %JAVA_HOME ) On a 32-bit system, my JAVA_HOME is set to something like: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06. But on a 64-bit system with the 32-bit java installed, the same JAVA_HOME is set to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.5.0_06. The problem that I'm having is it seems that the extra "(x86)" define in the variable is causing problem with the parenthesis in the "if" statement. I would think that this …

Service Pack 2 64bit. Update.inf error on Intel Quad Core.
by Guest Jose Medeiros- 1 reply
Greetings, Recently I upgraded my AMD 3200 CPU and Motherboard to a Intel Quad Core, and reinstalled the Windows XP 64 bit edition that I own. I think I found a bug in the service pack, as it will not install using Windows Update or by downloading the local 340 megabyte network version ( I have the screen captures ), and the error message states the the update.inf can not be found. The same service pack installs just fine on a AMD 64 Bit CPU, and the 32 bit version of service pack 2 installed on the same Quad core ( I dual boot both versions ). Also the post security patch's installed just fine using the Windows Update service on the 64 bit version.…

Can I exchange Windows XP64 for 32 bit version
by Guest Bull- 2 replies
I've given up. I had to hunt down an unsupported driver for my Linksys Wireless USB adapter. Now I can't install Norton 360 because they don't support WindowsXP64. I had wanted the ability to run 64 bit programs on this PC, but that hasn't materialized and a lot of software like above seems to not work. I got the OS with the PC. Am I really going to have to shell out more $$$ to Microsoft so that I can throw away this boat anchor that no one supports and get something that works? I'm really unhappy with the product. I'm hesitant to even ask, but is support better for Vista 64? It just irks me that I have to run 32 bit windows on a 64 bit capable ma…

Total System Freeze (No BSoD)
by Guest ralish- 3 replies
Hello, I'm trying to track down a problem with this Win XP x64 machine, namely, after a few days of constant uptime the system completely freezes. This is NOT a BSoD (I wish it was), rather, the system just entirely freezes up. The display becomes static (showing exactly what was on the screen at the time of the freeze), the mouse cursor is frozen, no amount of key pressing (Ctrl+Alt+Del and others) gets any response. A hard reset is the only solution. I'm trying to track down what is going on here. I do not believe it is a hardware problem, as I've extensively stress-tested the hardware while trying to troubleshoot this problem, and have not had a s…
