Windows 2003 64 Bit TCP Windowing
by Guest Peter Brown- 1 reply

What's the default TCP window size for Win2k3 Server 64-bit? The reason I ask is this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224829) article is for the 32-bit OS, but no mention of the 64-bit. I have an application database running on W2k3 64-bit OS & SQL 2005, and when i run a packet capture on the database server, it consistently sets the sliding window to 17k. Should I expect it to ever get to 64k? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Need some help!! Have the following: ASUS P5K Intel E8400 Corsair (4x) 1gb ram TwinXMS EVGA 8800gt Vista 64bit My system runs very unstable with all 4 sticks in, continually bsod's. Ran memory test, says memory has a problem. Put 2 sticks in, ran mem test, all ok, put other 2 sticks in alone, mem test ok. Put all 4 in together, bios and windows sees all 4gb, but it is still unstable. Any suggestions? I could run with 2, but why use 64bit? Thanks

Problem listing file properties
by Guest EROC- 0 replies

I've been having a problem listing file properties/values with Windows XP 64-bit. While running XP 32-bit Pro listing: bit rate, genre, album, year; for mp3 files had no problems. With the same system (Intel 2 Duo 64-bit) when swicthing to XP 64-bit, I'm not even able to rewrite any of the ID tags. Has anyone come across this problem? If so, how do you fix it? and don't tell me go back to XP 32-bit, I just bought XP 64-bit.

One of my new programs wont work on Vista 64 bit Home Basic - Help
by Guest peterhoult- 8 replies

I tried to use a program with Windows Vista Home Basic 64 bit edition. It won't install, and the program makers say they have no plans to produce a 64 bit version. They say it works with Vista 32 bit version. This leads me to 2 questions: a) can you make the 64 bit version run in a 32 bit compatibility mode? b) can a 32 bit version of vista be installed on a machine with 64 bit architecture? -- Regards, Peter Hoult UK

Indexing Options, multiple problems
by Guest chunnel- 2 replies

I have multiple problems with Indexing Options and it seems that everything I do to try to fix it makes it worse. Here are my issues; 1. I just reinstalled Vista 64 Ult. and while the index would see my contacts in Outlook before, now the best I've been able to do it get it to see my email, but now that's gone. And yes, I have deleted the address book, created a new one and made sure that all the Contacts folders are visible in the Address book. 2. The email is no longer visible because Outlook no longer shows up as an option. I haven't turned over UAC yet and when I click modify, where I used to be able to see Outlook, now I don't. When I go to advanc…

Sending Secure Email with Digital ID Verisign
by Guest David F- 4 replies
Many people email sensitive information by email when they should not. When using the internet it pays to be paranoid and it is quite easy and inexpensive to install a digital ID for encryption. Although not listed on the Microsoft website as a provider of digital ID certificates for Office 2007 on this page: https://digitalid.verisign.com/enrollment/MS_pcmp.htm Verisign is indeed a provider. Special instructions have to be followed when requesting a certificate with Vista/IE7 which are listed on the top of the certificate enrollment page. https://digitalid.verisign.com/client/class1MS.htm Also special instructions for installing a certificate in vario…

Vista not waking up after defragmentation overnight
by Guest Rob- 1 reply

Have a dual-boot setup (XP 32 bit and Vista 64bit) running for near a year. One major problem has arised twice so otherwise I will from now on try to avoid sleeping mode (or hybernation ??...). In Vista, there is no way apparently I can wake up the system from sleep mode : mouse, keys (at least I haven't found which or which esoteric combination...) Last time I had this problem, I had to physically shut the PC, att he risk of doing something bad to my boot sector (if I remember, the next launching had been problematic...) Is there a setting I can do : either to have a **simple** way to awake it (such as moving the mouse, as it is the case on the sa…

I just did a clean install of my os and doing the updates I discovered that no matter what I do I can't get the net 2.0 or 3.0 to update/install. I keep getting the same error after it runs a while: "Error 25015. Failed to install assembly 'M:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Microsoft.VisualBasic.Vsa.dll' because of system error: The device is not ready." I even tried downloading 2.0 and installing it direct but it runs awhile then craps out with the same message. Any ideas? Respectfully, Mark

No DVD Sound on Vista 64
by Guest Ken Triebold- 15 replies

I have just built a new computer, and it seems to be running pretty well. I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit. One thing I noticed is that I have picture but no sound when playing a movie DVD. When I play a music CD sound works normally. Someone advised me that this is because I need a codec for DVD sound. I then downloaded and installed a couple of free codecs, but that did not improve the situation. I read on Windows Help that my operating system requires a codec that is written in 64 bit, so that could be the problem since the codecs that I downloaded were probably 32 bit. I imagine finding a 64 bit codec will be pretty hard to find. Am I on the right trac…

2008 Trend Micro Internet Security is NOT is compatible with WindowsVista SP1 and Windows XP SP3 2008 Trend Micro Internet Security is NOT is compatible with Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3 I have deleted all of the old 2007 and new 2008 Trend Micro Internet Security virus software from my computer, because of the multiple alert messages, that I was having with their new 2008 upgraded software. If the Trend Micro Personal Firewall and the Unauthorized Changes Prevention features main components do not work with the new service packs from Microsoft, why are they still selling this non-working software to the public? Also, I don't want to wait until …

x64 installs to wrong drive letter
by Guest simonc- 8 replies

I am following a scheme suggested by mvp Charlie Russel to have a dual boot machine with XP Pro 32 bit on C drive, x64 on D drive and data I want to use with both OSs on E drive. I have partitioned the drive in XP Pro 32 bit with a primary partition as C drive which has the XP Pro 32 bit OS, another primary partition as D drive to contain the x64 OS and an extended partition with a logical drive E. When I tried to install x64 (trial version) it recognised the partitions but had allocated the empty primary partition with the letter E and not D (and the logical drive as D instead of E), so it installed on E drive and wouldn't subsequently let me change th…

Hi all...I am not seeing an answer to my problem in this N/G ....running Vista Home Prem on quad core HP...I upgraded this OEM to Ultimate 32 bit...(worked great) and now would like to play around with 64 bit. Tried to upgrade from Ultimate 32 bit...I was aware that I would need to do a clean install. The process started on the re-boot and froze at the point of selecting drives. There was a little error message saying if I want to use this key, I need to be running genuine Windows...I rebuilt the OS back to OEM Home Prem...tried again...same error...made sure I went out to get genuine valadition...same error...any suggestions as to what the problem mig…

x64 apache
by Guest miso@sushi.com- 7 replies

Hope these questions aren't too dumb. I've installed apache under linux, but I need to run it on my x64 box. I tried to install a 64 bit version of apache. http://www.blackdot.be/?inc=apache/binaries However, the program wont install because it detects 32 bit apache on my PC already. Two instances of apache show up in the task manager. I suppose I could live with 32 bit apache, but when I try to browse the local host, it doesn't find the "It works" html. Where should the HTML be located using the apache that comes with X64. I tried to delete the apache on the system, but it doesn't show up in the add/remove programs, so I assume it is part of the OS. I tur…
