If you are getting a bluescreen when attempting to boot into Vista and you have just tried to increase the ram to 4GB or more and if your mobo has an nVidia chipset then this kb article may be for you. It has download links for patching both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista. Please review the Symtoms listed in the kb before downloading. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930261/en-us

Windows XP Professional x64 Only Seeing 3GB RAM? 1 2
by Guest Dan- 39 replies

Windows XP Professional x64 and 4GB RAM? Alright, So with all the development and what not that I do, I decided to upgrade my system to 4GB of RAM. Also, due to software incompatibilities with Vista, I decided the my only real choice was Windows XP Professional x64 for my OS. I ran through the entire install, got all my drivers, everything seemed to be going well. I got my RAM today in the mail, slapped it in, checked the BIOS, and everything looked good. However, once I got into Windows, it only shows that I have 3GB available: http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h33/danodemano/Spec.jpg I checked with CPUZ to make sure that it was seeing the full 4GB and it was…

Win Pro 64x trial and product key
by Guest Juan- 4 replies
Hello all. I need to reinstall Win Pro 64bit on this computer; I have the Product Key but not the disk itself. I have downloaded the trial from MS; as I start to install it, it warns me it is a trial and it will work only temporarily. Two questions: First: if I use the my key, not the trial one, will it work as a fullversion, not as a trial one? Second: I want to repair my windows installation, but it does not offer me such an option. I want to keep my programs and not have to reinstall them all. Does anybody have any suggestion as to how to proceed? Thanks to all inadvance,

OEM License

Hello, I saw online an ad for XP Pro x64 and it says, "No Retail Box (OEM)". The price is way below many other sites. In plain english, can someone explain what OEM means in this context? I know it stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, but 1) what does it mean, 2) why doesn't come in the box, and 3) is it the same as more expensive products that do come in a retail box? I look forward to a simple and understandable explanation. Thank you. Running Vista 64. FAQ?
by Guest David F- 6 replies

I've been running Vista Business 64 without many problems for a few days now. One thing is that I'm no longer able to see previews of Adobe documents in Windows Explorer. 1) Does anyone have a fix for this? I use Vista 64 because in addition to using MS Office, I do development. I'm running SQL Server 2005 64 bit and also Visual Studio 2008. The system is very fast and very stable with 4 GB RAM, 200 GB 7200 HD on an Thinkpad X61s laptop. Here are two things to look out for: This should help you with ITunes burning DVDs under Vista 64: http://www.agileprogrammer.com/dotnetguy/archive/2007/11/22/23851.aspx Workaround for Windows Search and Office …

Hardware re-detection
by Guest Carlos- 5 replies
Here's my first suggestion for Santa Gates. Many of us here like to do hardware changes from time to time which require a re-installation of the whole OS (Vista) or a repair (XP). Wouldn't it be nice if, after changing the mobo (or even a HD), you would only have to put the Vista DVD on its drive and choose "Hardware re-detect" from the boot options? That would make Vista re-detect all the hardware and boot without the need of a fresh install. Same would apply to XP. I'm having a heck of a time trying to install XP x64 as a dual boot. I currently have Windows 2000 on my c drive. I would like to install XP x64 on my D: drive. I have never used RAID and will continue not to at this point. I have tried the following drivers without success: Promise FastTrak 378/tx4000, VIA HyperionPro. Here is how far I get using the drivers. Boot from the Windows XP CD. Press F6/S to load the drivers. The driver is accepted, and Windows loads. I get past the last prompt before installation, and I get "Setup did not find any hard disk drivers installed on your computer?" Hit F3 to exit. Huh, it just accepted the driver? Anyway, some…

What is the purpose for 64bit Windows?
by Guest Chris Purdue- 4 replies
I purchased the 64 bit version of Windows XP and found out that many hardware and software products are not supported hence, I had to revert back to 32bit Windows XP. Now I see the exact same problems with Vista 64 bit. My question is: What is the purpose of 64 bit Windows if support is lacking? Just like Linux which I consider to be crap, I consider the same for the 64 bit Windows. You lackeys don't need to reply unless your name is Bill Gates.

Upgrading from x32
by Guest Brad- 4 replies

Ok, I have been given the red flag by many sales people and technical support reps(of which I am surprised and thankful for). I also see there are many discussions going on in regards to different issues out there. I think I have a pretty good understanding of what I am getting into if I decide to try and move the direction of going from x32 to x64. Honestly, some of it doesn't sound any different from going to a new OS. Drivers, Drivers, Drivers!!!! That being said, I have a Dell Precision 690 with XP pro on it and 4GB RAM. My software packages are SQL Server, Office 2007 and Acrobat 8 Pro. I am already planning on upgrading SQL and XP to x64 w…

Re: "The image file .. is valid, but is for a machine type other t I'm wondering if you could direct me to instructions on how to use this in order to deal with programs that have a 16-bit installer. I've run into this problem myself and after spending 15 minutes with the software, I can't figure out how to use it to make the program install correctly. Thanks!
