Intel 64 (core 2 duo) and Vista
by Guest miso@sushi.com- 8 replies

I really need to replace my old laptop. While I'd prefer the AMD 64 (which i use on my desktop), it seems the notebook market likes Intel,at least the one with the features I want. So what is this Intel 64 used in the core 2 duo (Thinkpad T61 to be specific.] I've seen it listed as 86_64, but that is the AMD instruction set. What does it cost to buy the 64 bit CD? I see it is "free" with ultimate vista. Has anyone here upgraded a T61 to 64 bits. Are any of the versions of VIsta so cheap that they don't support dual core?

Phenom quad core, task manager only shows one processor
by Guest Zootal- 17 replies

I've been running for about a week with XP64 on a phenom quad core cpu. When I first installed everything, task manager showed 4 processors on the performance tab. Today I noticed that it only shows one. Any idea why, and what happened to my other three cores? How can I verify that Windows is seeing, and using, all 4 cores? At first it showed 4 processors, with different cpu utilisation for each one. Now there is just one.

MI5-Persecution: MI5 are Afraid to Admit Theyre Behind the Persecution (28361)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 0 replies
- 196 views
MI5 are Afraid to Admit They're Behind the Persecution MI5 have issued a formal denial of any involvement in my life to the Security Service Tribunal, as you might expect them to; but, more importantly, the persecutors have never denied that theyre from the Security Service, despite several years of accusations from my corner on usenet and in faxed articles. I am not surprised that the Security Service Tribunal found "no determination in your favour". I am however a little surprised that the persecutors have refused to confirm my identification of them; by doing so, they implicitly admit that my guess was right. "No determination in your favour" says the Secu…

MI5-Persecution: Why do you think MI5 are responsible? (4348)
by Guest MI5-Victim@mi5.gov.uk- 0 replies

Why do you think MI5 are responsible? The question of who is ultimately responsible for this eight-year harassment is one which is very difficult to answer, as the persecutors have never clearly made their identities known to the persecutee. However, I believe I am correct in attributing the continuing victimisation to elements of the British Security Service MI5, and in this article, I will try to explain the reasons for this belief. The British internet magazine ".net" featured my website on page 17 of their March 1998 issue (number 42). Their review kindly describes it as an "excellent site" and gives some details of what the net surfer will find there. S…

Very basic question .. how to install?
by Guest w2k3e_install- 9 replies

I downloaded Windows 2003 R2 64 bit & created 2 ISO image CDs. When place the first one in CD/DVD drive, nothing happens! I also got a DVD from Microsoft & same thing -- nothing happens. My machine is a 64-bit AMD64 & it has no OS installed in it and BIOS setting has CD/DVD first priority. If I place the Standalone CD, installation starts. The problem seems to be only with Enterprise version. I am wondering whether I have to do anything special to install Enterprise 64 bit OS. Please advice/help. Thanks.

Trial to Purchase
by Guest PJ- 2 replies

I've been running the trial download from MS for a few weeks now and would like to keep it installed permanently. What options do I have? I know it will run for 120 days, but what happens when I reach that point? I don't want to continue installing programs and migrating my files if I will need to format my system and start over. Will I have an option to keep this installed, and if so, would the price be any different than purchasing from a retailer?

a.. There are roughly 2500 fixes in SP1. This is an average size for a service pack, but the issues fixed are very important to our customers. a.. Almost 20% of those fixes are direct result of customer requests. a.. Over 500 of those fixes focused on security. None of my 27 issues have been fixed, I wonder who their customers really are??

How does someone report an issue?
by Guest Raybo58- 3 replies
How does someone report a specific issue to the appropriate Microsoft operating system maintenance team? I get an error message that says "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" The specifics: When I reach a cretain point in the game Half-Life 2: Episode One I get the error message specifed above. After an exhausting search, I found what appears to be the answer to the problem on the Steam website. Which is to apply a hotfix from Microsoft. From what I've gathered the hotfix is not available for the x64 version of XP Pro, but it is available for just about every other version. So naturally I want to report…

HD replacement
by Guest vovan- 9 replies

I have 64bit XP Pro with 2 HD - 80GB, 7200 RPM. RAM - 16GB. I'd like to replace my drives. If I replace the first one with 150GB, 10000 RPM, and the second one with 1TB, 7200 RPM, will I get a better speed? I've heared from somebody that the system works with the speed of the slowest HD. Is it true? If so, I need to replace the second HD with 10000 RPM too, but all of them I saw have sizes not big enough for me. Thank you vovan

Problem Installing IIs
by Guest jon L- 0 replies

HI, I received a new Dell optiplex GX620 with a corporate load of XP professional and service pack II on it. My prior machine was an XP pro with IIS on it So I attempt to upgrade as I did a few years back with my prior box. I go to add/remove programs -> add windows component -> iis. It starts copying then says "setup cannot copy staxmem.dll" . I enter in a cd with a copy of Windows XP service Pack II". No dice. I then search my box and find two directories with staxmem.dll in them C:\windows\system32; C:\windows\ServicePackfiles\i386. I try feeding these to the copy error dialogue . It just keeps repeating the error for the same file. I go …

Performance differences between xp32 and xp64
by Guest Zootal- 9 replies

Due to compability issues and the pain it is causing, I'm seriously considering abandoning XP64 and going back to XP32. Question - how much of a performance difference is there between the two? How much faster is XP64? And, if I switch back to XP32, what good does it do to have a 64bit cpu?

Pros vs. Cons Windows Vista 32bit vs. 64bit
by Guest Harvey1953- 2 replies
I am preparing to build my first system from scratch, I have done upgrades to mfg built systems, and have gotten good results. i have even dabbled with Win XP 64bit but had a few compatability issues. I hear that Vista 64bit is much better than XP64 was, and has the benefit of allowing the system to utilize more ram, but I would like some opinions on which way would be best. I have used Vista Ultimate 32 almost since it's release, on a prebuilt, upgraded machine, without any problem other than being able to find the correct motherboard id for my system to update the bios so that I can use the Bit Locker feature. Vista 64 trade down
by Guest Pete Shields- 7 replies
I have kept the faith in Vista 64 since it's release but alas the majority of my hardware - Ipod Nano, Sony camera & camcorder, Archos, various phones, memory cards, memory sticks and USB hubs fail to be recognised. They all work flawlessly on the second PC running XP home edition. Manufacturers just don't support this operating system and are not at all interested in supporting it. It's a shame, as the rest of it seems stable on my AMD 3800 x 2 system. My version of Vista is a 64 bit premium OEM version. Does anybody know whether Microsoft can offer me some sort of discount/trade in on the 32bit version? Don't want to have to shell out again for ano…

No Theme Setting at all in Photos Screen Saver
by Guest Dorpond- 0 replies

When I go to the Photo Screen Saver and click on Settings, I don't have any section at all that even allows me to specify a theme. I notice all these cheap laptops at Best Buy showing the picture pan and zoom but mine here don't do anything fancy what-so-ever. I have researched this to death but find only a handful of people complaining about this. What is the deal? Why can't I even change the themes? I am running Aero perfectly and everything seems to be very quick but that darn Photo Screen Saver has no advanced features. This has been driving me nuts. I have a 3500.00 Laptop running Vista Business X64, have 4 GIG of RAM and a 256 meg Quadro Nvidia vi…
