Recycle bin recycles files, even when set to not do so
by Guest Zootal- 2 replies
I have my recycle bin set to "Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" on every drive. However, I noticed that each drive has a recycled (fat32) or recycler (ntfs) directory, and each of them has several GB of files in them. If I open the recycle bin, it is empty. What are these recycled and recycler directories, and what is the several GB of files in them? I can confirm that if I delete a 2MB file, the size of the recycler directory increases by 2MB. So, instead of asking if XP64 ignores recycle bin settings, instead I'm going to ask how do I get it to not recycle files, and instead delete them like I have it set?

Now I can only log on as new user without admin priveleges and cannot restore because I don't have admin priveleges. Because there is only one user in this WORKGROUP, there is no admin. and I can't log on to a different WORKGROUP. WHAT TO DO?

provide Digital Surround output for 64 bit Vista
by Guest Techy- 1 reply
I use both Win XP 32 bit and Vista 64 bit. With Win XP my receiver reads Dolby Digital Surround sound. With Vista 64 it reads just as surround sound or prologic and usually just plays in the center speaker. I have tried both optical and coaxial cables. I have also tried two different receivers. So I know it's the computer, not my receiver. The default device is also set to SPDIF on Vista. Drivers all updated. When will Microsoft release a fix for this? ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. OpenGL problems with XP64
by Guest Zootal- 5 replies

I have a clean installation of XP64, and I am having problems with Opengl apps. The first indication that there was a problem was when I realized Doom3 would not run. So then I tried some programs I wrote myself that use the opengl api, and they likewise don't work. Are there known issues with OpenGL on XP64? AMD Phenom quad core cpu, 4GB ram, XP64 clean install.

Dual Boot Vista 64 and 32
by Guest David F- 22 replies
I would like to dual boot Vista 64 with Vista 32 which I will use as a backup for compatibility problems with Vista 64 such as running Cisco's VPN. I've read: http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp Which discusses making a Vista 32 which is installed first dual boot with XP installed second. I assume a similar procedure would be followed for a dual boot Vista 32 and 64 install. Am I correct? Also, are the files (such as MS Word 2007) transferable between Vista 32 and Vista 64? TIA

x64 Drivers for Printers
by Guest Michael R. Mastro II- 19 replies

Ok I have a good question. I recently upgraded my Servers from Windows 2003 R2 (x86) to Windows 2003 R2 (x64). Now I am having a few problems but one of my biggest problems right now stems from my printers. I am unable to add the printers via Print Management. This is because HP in all their wonderful wisdom does not make a x64 bit driver disk. Don't ask me why. They only offer it in a downloadable package. Problem is this is not a .zip file which would make sense. It is a .exe install program. Now I have been on the phone with HP for days and have cursed them out for not having a .zip file of the drivers. The install package will not make it thr…

Program Installation problems
by Guest vovan- 1 reply

I've got a new system with Windows XP 64 bit. I was able to install many programs I need. I'm working on an old VB6 project which uses several pretty old third party controls. I installed 2 Sheridan ActiveX controls with no problem, but another 2 with the same age from the same Sheridan say "Setup.exe is valid, but for a different system". The company Sheridan is not alive, the project is too big to be modified. Is there any trick or work around to install those obsolete ActiveX controls on 64bit? Thank you vovan

XP64 won't enable second video adapter.
by Guest Zootal- 8 replies
I have a new m2a-vm board, AMD Phenom cpu, 2GB ram, WinXP64. I have installed two different pci video cards because I want to use a second monitor, and the onboard video doesn't support two vga connectors. In Windows, it sees a Standard VGA Graphics adapter, but it won't enable it, not even with the generic vga drivers. If I set the primary adaptor to the pci adaptor, then Windows loads on it and installs the generic vga driver, but then it doesn't see the onboard video chipset. In either case, I can't get two monitors plugged in and working at the same time. Is this a known issue with this board? Or a known problem with XP64, or both? I'm not quite sur…

How to format large drive fat32?
by Guest Zootal- 13 replies
I'm running XP 64bit. I have a WD 750GB sata drive. I want a large fat32 partition on it, about 650GB. The windows based tools that Western Digital make don't run under XP64, and the dos based tool doesn't recognize sata drives. XP will only format it as ntfs, but I need fat32. So - how can I create a 650GB fat32 partition on this drive?

vista 64 a driverless lame duck?
by Guest Pete Shields- 16 replies

Have I wasted my cash on an operating system that's unable to communicate with the majority of my external hardware? Am I doing something wrong (everything worked in XP), as the majority of my external hardware has problems, ie: 1) HP C7189 scanner/printer only installs basic printer driver - my machine finds scanner part every time I boot up, but don't install any drivers. 2) USB hub - akasa not recognised (card reader does work though) 30IPOD Nano don't work 4)memory sticks don't work anymore. 5) Archos 704 don't work 6) Sony cybershot T100 don't pick up - need to remove memory card and load seperately 7) my Sony digicam cannot be picked up on firewire p…

Multiple redundant csrss.exe processes cause crash
by Guest oscartheswede- 2 replies
Hello! Im trying to troubleshoot a problem on a Windows 64x 2003 Server running as a Terminal Server... Over the course of about two weeks enough redundant "ghost" csrss.exe processes from former logins remain, slowly building until the RAM/VRAM runs out resulting in an inevitable IRQL error, which causes the server to crash. As the csrss.exe is a system process I cannot terminate it as-it-comes, instead I am forced to schedule continual and repeated reboots to maintain the csrss.exe process buildup to a minimum... Also... Ive understood that running 32 bit applications on a 64 bit terminal server is problematic at best, so I took the liberty of loo…
