Smart card support
by Guest dab- 3 replies
Hi, I have been having great trouble getting the smart card support to work correctly in the 64-bit environment. Finally I discovered after running a few diagnostics that in the msdn distribution of XP 64 a necessary file was missing after installation, the file was \system32\ScardSsp.dll. The 32-bit version is also missing. Even after installing SP2 the file was still missing. Can anybody say if this is by design or merely a miss in the distribution? Is there a 64-bit version of this file? Is there a hotfix? -- Thanks for any help on the matter in question. DAB

MS VC++ 2008 redist available for download
by Guest Carlos- 0 replies

Though not an imperative update, these redists have helped me through time in order to address those SideBySide errors in event viewer. I can recall RivaTuner and ffdshow as some of the programs that, after installing the redist, would not cause any further SideBySide errors. x64 version http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=bd2a6171-e2d6-4230-b809-9a8d7548c1b6&DisplayLang=en x86 version http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&DisplayLang=en I have both x86 and x64 prior versions installed in Vista x64 Tonight I will download these two and install them at home. Sleep being the default Shutdown setting
by Guest Mike Douglas- 3 replies
I am running Windows Vista 64 Bit clean install. I noticed that when I click Start> Shutdown the SLEEP is always the default. Even if I previously choose shutdown or restart. I have also noticed this on a Vista Home Basic 32 bit version. I have played with the power adjustment settings and schemes. No luck. Where can I tell Vista to display the previous shutdown command like XP/Win2k does? Mike D

Vista x64 and 5gb of memory, Aero shuts down intermittently withperformance errors
by Guest djrobx@gmail.com- 0 replies
Problem: On my Mac Pro with 5GB of system memory, Aero intermittently shuts down. Balloons appear in the lower right reporting that "Windows has detected that performance is low" or that it has "exceeded dedicated memory". The same behavior occurs with a NVidia 6300GT with 256mb, or an ATI X1900XT with 512mb. Additionally, Desktop Window Manager will make log entries: 9025: The Desktop Window Manager has stopped locking system memory due to passing its working set threshold 9024: The Desktop Window Manager has been disabled automatically by the system due to too much system memory in use The amount of windows that need to be open to trigger the pro…

Windows Vista Performance Codes in Event Viewer for one
by Guest Suzanne MarcAurele- 10 replies
I have a client that bought an AMD 64bit processor system that in my estimation is an absolute dawg! I have received several error codes throughout all of the event viewers, in particular critical codes related to the kernel and performance(the logs for a similiar period in a clean install of Vista are 2x larger than the clean install). I also discovered an additional administrator in Group Policy that I find no where in my installation of Vista 32 bit. Is it possible that on consumer machines that manufacturers are installing an administrator - the GP even states that the system is shared when it is not. Additionally the system crashed totally - it …

Vista Ultimate 64 can't see external USB Drives
by Guest Steve- 2 replies
I have three external hard drives that I use for backup. A Maxtor OneTouch 4 500GB drive, a SimpleTech USB/Firewire and a Venus DS3 USB enclosure. When I plug in any of these devices, Vista asks for a driver which doesn't seem to exsist. Now this computer also boots into XP 64 and 32 and sees these drives without issue. All OSs are on seperate internal hard drives. Any advice on how to get Vista 64 to reconize these drives? -- Steve

Two servers acting as domain controllers as well as integrated DNS, the OS installed on both of them is Windows server 2003 R2 SP2 on DC1: preffered dns: DC1 IP alternate dns: DC2 IP on DC2: preffered dns: DC2 IP alternate dns: DC1 IP if I stop the dns service on DC1, the resolution stop on DC1, I mean, if i try nslookup I get no reponse, so it is not using the alternate DNS (DC2) Vise vera if I want to do so from DC2 If I try to do nslookup from another server (Win2k3 R2 SP2) (client) it will not resolve (if the preffered dns is stopped), but if I do nslookup from XP SP2 machine it will resolve (it is using the …

by Guest 0000- 3 replies

XP Pro x64 with SP2. Tried to install Office Enterprise 2007 and BSOD part way into the install. Googled for info, but not much out there. Had to System Restore to recover. The only thing that I could find that might be relevant was Terminal Services has to be in strict security mode. Tried to disable TS but had to restore from that too.

VISTA X64 WORKS FINE!
by Guest BENAGLIA- 9 replies

Thought it would be a good idea to post my experience with my Vista X64 system and working experience with it. Set the system up myself and after some good home work opted for the following components: M/Board: Asus P5W DH Deluxe CPU: Intel Dual Core 6600 @ 2.40HGz RAM: 4 Gb Vista: Business X64 HD: Raid 0 Most of my work is graphics and so I needed something stable and at the same time reliable/stable when handling heavy files with quite a range of software and so on. My initial problems were what I call "normal administration", new drivers, new software but managed to sort it all out without big problems, most of the …

Re: Printer Manager and 32bit drivers

Re: Printer Manager and 32bit drivers Hey guys, Well, my problem is that I have Vista 64-bit installed and I need the NTPRINT.INF file from Vista 32-bit to install my 32-bit driver for a shared printer. I have both the 32-bit and 64-bit Vista discs, but for whatever reason, neither of them have the NTPRINT.INF file available to me. I searched for the file on the disc and I searched the contents of the files on the disc, and nothing turned up. I think Microsoft has hidden most of the files used by the OS on the DVD for Vista. There isn't an i386 subdirectory, like there are on the previous version of Windows. So, my question remains...how do I ge…

missing NTLDR
by Guest Joe Stewart- 4 replies

I just installed Win XP Pro x64 after a complete format. When I boot up I receive the following message - "NTLDR is missing" "press ctl-alt-del to restart". Restarting does't change anything. If I boot up with the installation disk in the CD drive, I have no problems. How do I correct this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
