Re: Column: Frequently asked questions about Windows XP Prof x64 E Hi, I have a tablet PC with Windows XP Tablet Edition recently installed on it, but my system has 4 GB of RAM (TE can see only 3GB or RAM) and a dual core processor and I think it would make more sense having XP Pro x64, but I know it doesn't have all the tablet features (software and drivers). Therefore, my question is, is there a way to get the software and drivers that XP Pro x64 lacks from XP Tablet Edition? Thanks in advance, ~Matt P.S. My computer came with Vista Ultimate and I don't like it at all. Even with 4GB of RAM and a dual core processor it's performance is ... "slu…

by Guest Ed Morgan- 1 reply

I was considering developing a new industrial product using Windows XP Embedded to get a small footprint for my O/S but find I need more than 4Gb of RAM. So I was considering going to a 64-bit O/S. I did not want to use Vista because its installed image is HUGE! But with recent Microsoft announcements, XP will only be available for another year. I have searched the Microsoft sites for information on Windows XP-64 availability without any luck. Can anyone help answer the following questions or What is the future of Windows XP-64? Is it being replaced by Vista X64 when XP is no longer available next year? More importantly, is there a version of W…

Resolution for Sleep Vista 64
by Guest Rod- 2 replies
I thought i would post this since it took me forever to figure out, and may save someone some time. Vista 64 would sleep if i hit the sleep key on my keyboard, but would not sleep automatically (after the time set). Resolution was to re-install the wireless keyboard and mouse with Vista 64 drivers. As it turned out they were using vista 32 drivers and since they worked i did not think they were an issue, but by updating them it fixed the sleep issue.

OT: Carlos: Any news on MV Explorer
by Guest Charlie Russel - MVP- 12 replies

Carlos - any updates that you've heard from down there on the fate of the MV Explorer? The last I heard up here is that she was listing ~40 degrees and was about 850 kilometers SE of Ushuaia. We once did a simply wonderful vacation on that great old ship, 18 days in the Malvinas and Antarctica. That was 7 years ago, while she was still owned by Abercrombie and Kent. I'd truly hate to hear she'd sunk - she deserves better. Hardly a youngster, especially for a ship plying the kinds of waters she does, but she did well by us and was a perfect size for Antarctica. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.ru…

There needs to be a way to get 64 bit apps set as default!!!
by Guest Techy- 6 replies
Every 64 bit version of Vista comes with both 32 and 64 bit programs (e.g. Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, etc.), however the 32 bit programs are always set as default! Why would someone use a 64 bit operating system to use 32 bit applications? At least give us a way to change the default please!!! ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Any good reasons not to run Vista 64?
by Guest David- 9 replies
I'm ordering a new laptop and am strongly thinking of getting Vista 64 as I could use the entire 4 GB RAM space. One reason I can think of is that the Cisco VPN only runs Vista 32: The Cisco VPN client supports Windows 2000, XP and Vista (x86/32-bit only); Linux (Intel); Mac OS X 10.4; and Solaris UltraSparc (32 and 64-bit). http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2308/ I called and they seem to not even have anything in beta. TIA

External Hard Drive problems after fresh install
by Guest Ernest- 3 replies

Hey Everyone, So I know I pulled a bonehead move, but here's what happened. I reinstalled XP x64 last night because I went from an old small SATA I hdd to a new large SATA II hdd. I have an external 500GB hdd (generic enclosure + seagate hdd) that I used as a backup drive. Every night, Cobian Backup would push differential backups to the external hdd. When I put in the new hdd and did the fresh install, I forgot to unplug the external hdd, and although I did not touch the partitioning on the external (only the new internal drive), the install seems to have somehow corrupted my external drive. I am getting a slew of event ID 51, 31 and 11 (basica…
