Hi All, Am dealing with some .net socket applications. My 1st query is when should we see this "NET CLR Networking" performance object available on a system, i mean after installing which component of .net., for both 32x and 64x systems. If I ran one c# socket application(server client), I could see NET CLR Networking instances but could not see any data exposed, all counters shows 0. regards me

Not working CD/DVD "flue" got me
by Guest Carlos- 14 replies

It finally hit me. Both my IDE DVDRW and CDRW drivers don't read DVD's and CD's any longer. I have tried to apply the deletion of upper filters and lower filters in the registry but I don't have such keys. I can read my DVD's and CD's using the filemanager ZTreewin, however. I can burn them with Nero. But I can't read them with Windows Explorer. Device manager shows no problems. Any ideas? Carlos

XP x64 sharing over LAN with Windows 2000
by Guest jult- 2 replies

I'm working at a friends network with these two PC's on a LAN. They are firewalled externally, so all win software firewalling is disabled on both. I'd like to know how to allow acces from and to both, by both machines, on the LAN. One is running Windows 2000 (all up to date), the other Windows XP Pro x64 Edition. I have them both using the same name workgroup, but they can't access each other. Can someone tell me how on earth I can make these two stand-alone workstations see each other? Both have only one user, and they log on automatically. No crap with Groups or anything. And yes, I know about all security risks involved. There just seems no way I can…

Network file copy error x86/x64
by Guest Campbell- 4 replies
We currently run a network of 30+ XP Pro PCs. We have a added a few XP x64 machines and, whilst they can get on the network ok (are visible, can browse and be browsed by others), they give an error when trying to copy files from other computers (both 32-bit and 64-bit). This is the error message: "Cannot copy [filename]: The specified network name is no longer available." However, they work fine if you push the file from another computer (x86 or x64) to the x64 machine. Anybody have any ideas? We move around a lot of data and it is really starting to cause us some issues... [FYI the network adapters are on-board NICs (Asus Striker Extreme mobos - …

I have a Quad core system, 4gb memory running Vista Ultimate and Office Ultimate. A HTC S710 running Windows Mobile 6. I just loaded WMDC earlier today from the Microsoft web site and have major performance problems with it. So far it's taken 2+ hours for a full sync of my contacts....never mind calendar etc. Previous on Win XP Pro with Office Ultimate and the latest version of ACtiveSync a full, clean update would take around 30 minutes (on a much older PC). I must say I am very disappointed with the synchronisation between mobile and Office on Vista - performance sucks. Looking at Task Manager, nothing of any significance is running - WMDC is there …

Photo editing with Vista Ult 64 bit
by Guest BoH, Photographer- 2 replies
I'm shopping for a new notebook and looked at an HP DV6675US with Vista Ultimate 64 bit; 4GB RAM. I use the computer for photo editing with Photoshop, Lightroom and Pro Show Gold. I like the idea of getting 4 GB of RAM but am concerned about compatibility problems I've heard about with the 64 bit OS. I've heard that I need the 64 bit OS to be able to use over 2 GB of RAM with Photoshop. Am I stepping into a mine field if I get the notebook with Vista Ultimate 64 bit? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments.

.gadget file association help
by Guest imtcb- 4 replies
Hi, In an attempt to add WinRAR context menu items to .gadget files (to make extracting gadgets easier) I messed up the default association. I am not able to install any new gadgets now. Could someone help by doing either of the following: Exporting the file association from their registry and paste it in a reply, or Do the above +plus+ add in what would be needed to include the WinRAR context menu items. Obviously, this one would be preffered, but either would be a GREAT help! Thanks in advance, Ron Vista Ultimate x64

64 Bit Zune
by Guest KevinD- 3 replies

I hate ITunes! That said for those of us using 64 Bit windows I just discovered that the new version of Microsoft's Zune comes in a native 64 Bit version! I think it is the first truly 64 Bit piece of software I've installed on my computer and it is damn cool. The graphics, presentation - U/I is really slick. I like to share this stuff with others because it's fun to find out what is out there that will run beautifully on a 64 Bit DO'S. -- Kevin

Vista quicker shutdown fix for NET Framework 2.0
by Guest Carlos- 0 replies
MS released a fix for quicker shutdown of Vista when a managed service is not managing its own state during shutdown. The Vistaâ„¢ Operating system can experience delays during shutdown if running a managed service that was designed with a ServiceBase.OnShutdown method that does not explicitly call the ServiceBase Stop() method on system shutdown. This update facilitates quicker system shutdown by explicitly setting the service state to stopped after calling their OnShutdown, if the service has not already called the Stop() method. Both Vista x86 and x64 downloads (just 330KB) are available here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3a7b72…

Hi there , i've got a problem with Vista 64 bit , when i try to install it on my pc , during the installation like half way through or something it gives me a 'Crash and Dump" blue screen for some reason , i noticed that happening when i added 2gb extra to my memory , i had 2 gb now i have 4 gb or DDR2 PC 6400 800MHZ , but when that happened i thought it might be from the new Rams that i bought "mind you they are exactly the same , identical !!" so i took the old 2 off and i kept the 2 new sticks in , and i tried to reinstall Vista , and it installed perfectly no hassle at all ... so the new Rams that i got are good and nothing wrong with them , so what i'…

XP x64 focus/flickering screen
by Guest Andy- 1 reply

Hi, I am having a number of annoying symptoms on my XP Pro x64 system over the last couple months, e.g., - when clicking on tasks on task bar, nothing happens - when using ALT-TAB to change tasks, works properly - sometimes IE and Office 2003 will lock-up for a few minutes when saving files, especially when creating new folders during the dialog - certain applications, such as Quicken 2007, flicker a great deal, and leave traces of previous windows overlapping new windows frequently when running certain tasks - did not behave this way until a couple months ago, but not sure what changed I'm not sure where to start. Any ideas would be greatly appreciat…

When I was running Dial-a-Fix, I received a Microwoft message that file waupi.dll is missing and that I need to insert my SP2 disk in my pc or to locate the file so that it can be reinstalled (not verbatim). I did a search and found two waupi.dll's. One is in Windows/System 32. Another one that showed up in the search was supposed to be in Windows/WOW64, but I looked through every folder and turned on show hidden and system files and protection operating files and it still wasn't there. I rebooted my computer, looked for it again, and waupi.dll didn't show up under a search. I tried again and now I get a message that says "browse. Copy files fr…

Not Enough Storage Space Available

Hi everyone, I have a small business network that has a Windows 2003 SMB Premium 32-Bit domain controller that is not used as a domain but as a file server for a large number of PCs in a workgroup. I have recently installed Windows XP 64-Bit on my primary workstation and have an internal 2TB RAID 5 array shared out for network access, the problem is that I am getting the infamous "Not Enough Storage Space Available" message when I try to attach to the RAID share. I have made the necessary changes to the registry regarding the stack value but this has not helped. The really odd thing is that I can attach to the shared documents folder on the same system j…

I have 2 servers, both Windows server 2003 R2 X64 servers. One running exchange server 2007 enterprise (all services) one running exchange server 2007 enterprise (client access) firewall between of course, with strict rules. I need to limit RPC to a range of 100 ports, (5000 - 5100) for communications between the two servers. I cannot open any-any, corp policy will not allow it. I have found ways documented in other OS's, but nothing for WIndows Server 2003 R2 X64 on how to do this. Help!
