Number of people using WinXP 64 (growing)

From the inquiries about drivers for WinXP 64 you would think companies would be supporting it better.Maybe a few "nudges" from Microsoft would help. The system is rock solid for me.I don't understand the "lack of support for a 64 bit system".

Hello all, now that i have my retail (oem) version of Win XP Pro 64-bit installed and running smoothly, the task manager reveals something very interesting. i was wondering if anyone out there sees the same thing: when i open task manager right after boot up, i have 19 files/srvcs running. about 3 minutes after that 6 more files will run without anything in the startup options and in msconfig and in admin services (ctrl panel). they are 1. wscntfy.exe 2. alg.exe 3. svchost.exe 4. NvSvc64.exe (no doubt from my Nvidia card) 5. SmSvcHost.exe 6. cisv.exe then about 7 mins after that (10 mins into the boot) a 7th file will start. 7. cidaemon.exe …

Hey friends, can anybody advise? When XP64 gets to the welcome screen, the blue progress bar with the moving dashes stops moving. If I hit the reset button it boots ok but I have to tell it to start normally at the boot menu, then it starts up ok. Hoping I'm making this clear, please let me know if I'm not. Thanks a lot in advance

I trying to boost performance on an Athlon 64 (2)core w/3Gb Ram and over 250Gb HD free space running XP Pro 64; 90% free resources and CPU load max avg. 50% for 6-10 sec. and max RAM only reaching 500Mb on program install or even running system defag. I turned page-file off and RAM usage only went up to 600 Mb. System did run a little faster. Is there any way to boost system speed is still running slow according to Pcpitstop tests especially HD and NVIDIA Gforce video. Mother board is NVIDIA and all drivers are up todate.

by Guest ingeborgdot- 6 replies

I am building another computer and want to use dual boot xp 64 and vista 64. My big question is should I use 64? I have a lot of software that cost me a lot of money and would like to use it. How can I find out what will work with xp 64 and vista 64? I know that xp 64 is much more compatible at this time but really want vista 64 if it is possible. If anyone could steer me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone here running Symantec AntiVirus on Vista 64 Ultimate? I use to be able to right click on either a drive, folder or file and select Scan for Viruses but now it doesn't show up at all, I check my 32-bit version of Vista and it shows the Scan for Viruses on right click but not my 64-bit version of Vista. IE7 32-bit stopped working on Vista Enterprise x64.
by Guest Dennis Pack- 3 replies
I'm posting here because I don't an argument in the Vista or IE groups and I'm comfortable here. IE7 doesn't load a WEB page in 32-bit IE, IE without add-ons or as an administrator and Windows Live Mail doesn't load. IE7 64-bit, Windows Update, Windows Mail and some 32-bit redirections load properly. Changes in IE settings had no effect because 32-bit and 64-bit are treated the same. sfc /scannow, disk clean-up, browser, cache clean-up or start-up repair had no effect. This problem started after QT/ITunes tried to update and failed. Unfortunately trying to correct this problem ran me out of restore points. I haven't tried an in place upgrade/repair install…

Creating bootable slipstream CD's for w2k3 X64 ( AMD)
by Guest WillisGuy- 5 replies
Hi, I hope I'm in the right space Has anyone created a bootable slip stream CD from an existing X64 (AMD) CD ? There are a couple of procedures ( BARTS PE ! ) around that discusses how to make a W2k3 x86 slipstream CD. However those procedures fail because the the boot loader that is either used by the tools do not seem to work with a AMD processor, ( My disgnoses ... ). If you personally .. and successfully, created a Bootable ... Slipstream X64 CD ... I'd like to hear from you. John.Donnelly At HP.com
