Greetings, I have just installed (for the 8th time) Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. I have the terrible sounding Sam voice as the default voice. I also have TextAloud MP3, a program that reads back text as well, and I purchased two additional voices (AT&T Crystal and Mike) which sound 10000 times better than Sam. In Win XP Pro the voices, after installing them, automatically became part of my selection of voices but not so with x64. How do I get these voices to be recognized and used by the x64 install? I have even downloaded the 5.1 Sapi sdk and installed it hoping it would do it, but nada. Anyone have an idea as to what I need to d…

Vista Ultimate 64 Limiting RAM to 4gb
by Guest bret- 7 replies

I have been using Vista Ultimate 64 since release with no problems. I upgraded from my 1gb of ram to 5gb total. Adding 4x1gb sticks. At boot the mobo recognizes 5120 mb of RAM. But Vista only reports 3967mb? I've checked all the ram and it works fine. I thought Ultimate 64 supported 128gb? Does anyone know how i might fix this,

Disabling Driver Signing Enforcement in Vista 64 bit
by Guest broccolibeef- 4 replies
Hi, I am completely new to Vista 64 bit. But I am in the process of preparing to install Vista 64 bit onto my rig, so I am doing a lot of research. Today, I have this question: I read and heard that Vista 64 bit requires driver signing, so I wonder if this will cause any problem for me to install some beta driver for my Nvidia video card? For instance, will I have any problem in installing the latest beta driver, 169.04, for my nvidia vid card? Do I have to disable the driver signing feature? If so, how to? I googled, and I find this method: http://www.security-hacks.com/2007/05/07/vista-disable-driver-signing-verification-in-64-bit But it …

Using a 64-bit licence key on 32-bit XP.
by Guest Radermeister- 2 replies

While this may seem like a stupid question, I would appreciate any help received. I have an older PC, (Athlon 2500+, nForce 2 mobo, 1GB PC2700), and need to get a valid licence key on it. It had to get reformatted due to a failing HDD. I unfortunately lost my XP 32 bit disc key, but I do have several x64 license keys laying around. Would it be possible to use one of these keys on 32-bit XP?

How to buy Windows XP Pro x64?
by Guest Gary Seven- 4 replies
Hello everyone. I am in the process of building a new machine which will use the AMD Athlon64 X2 processor. I'm also going to be adding 4GB of DDR2 RAM, mostly because it's cheap to do so but also because it will benefit my primary application (Adobe Photoshop CS3). Problem is, of course my current OS (WinXP Pro) will not address the entire 4GB. I am now thinking of installing WinXP Pro x64 in a dual-boot config with my other WinXP. For starters this is mostly an experiment but I don't mind it all. What I don't have clear is where or how to buy this version of Windows. It appears you have to buy it already installed on some name-brand computer (ie…

16Gb Ram and page file
by Guest dbrentw- 0 replies
I have a new system w/ 16GB of RAM. I'm running a Java application that can very easily use this much memory. My problem is in how to best use RAM and page file. What I'd like to do is allocate 15GB of RAM to the Java virtual machine and allow the system to use as much memory as possible, no paging. However, if I set any value for the page file (e.g. 64Gb), the system seems to allow only around 2Gb of page file to be used (~1Gb physical memory). During program execution, once this 2GB PF/1GB RAM limit is hit, performance goes WAY down...haltingly slow. However, if I turn off the page file altogether and run the application w/ 15GB for the JVM, the …

blank CD-R and blank DVD-R not recognized by Vista 64 Ultimate
by Guest Greg Kirkpatrick- 13 replies
I built a system (for a client) with a LITE-ON DVD+-RW (PATA) with Lightscribe, and so far, Windows Vista 64 Ultimate will not recognize any blank CD-R or DVD-R disk. Nero StartSmart software (based on Nero 7) - which was bundled with the drive - does recognize those same disks, and successfully burns files to them. Is there anything I can do to get the imbedded burning working in Vista 64 Ultimate? System specs: Intel Q6600 Quad-Core 4GB RAM nVidea GeForce 8600 512MB dual 150GB Western Digital 10,000RPM SATA HD (in Raid 1 array) Lite-On DVD+-RW with LightScribe Windows Vista 64 Ulimate (FPP) Windows Experience Index 5.0 (5.9 CPU, 5.5 memory, 5.0…

Partial Backup recovery
by Guest Eric- 1 reply
I was performing a backup of some files using NTBackup on WinXP64. I had left it to go overnight, and unfortunately it requested another tape the next morning. I ended up having to cancel the job because the tape device would not respond. I had a crash later and was hoping to recover some of the data that DID get backed up but it keeps asking for a second tape in the set (which doesn't exist of course). Is there any way for me to get it to ignore that there should be two tapes and just show me what is currently on the one tape so I can restore the data? Thanks, Eric

Taking ownership of a file or folder may be a little cumbersome. I found this reg file on the web (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=852) that adds a righ-click option "Take Ownership" when right-clicking in windows explorer. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\runas] @="Take Ownership" "NoWorkingDirectory"="" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\runas\command] @="cmd.exe /c takeown /f \"%1\" && icacls \"%1\" /grant administrators:F" "IsolatedCommand"="cmd.exe /c takeown /f \"%1\" && icacls \"%1\" /grant administrators:F" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\runas] @="Take Ownership" "NoWorkingDirect…

Hello all I just recently put two more drives in my pc, and in order to do that I needed an IDE controller so I went out and bought one. I used the IDE controller cd-rom to install the driver and it installed the "Silicon image SiI 0680 ATA/133 RAID Controller" but I still cant see my drives , not even in the storage manager, I flashed my bios on my M2N-SLI Deluxe to the newest one and it's still not working. I have four drives two of which are plugged into the controller. I've tried installing different versions of the driver but when I update it says that the currently installed driver is better. I now notice that I have a section in the control panel na…

4 gigs of ram and 64-bit Vista Install
by Guest broccolibeef- 7 replies
Hello, I first ran into the link to this MS KB article at this forum: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929777 What it describes is that if you have more than 3 gigs of ram installed in your system, the Vista install will encounter a stop error. At first, I thought this was only limited to the 32-bit Vista, but the KB article has also included a 64-bit version for the hot fix. So does this mean that the 64-bit Vista is also affected? I have 4 gigs of ram in my setup. I have to pull two gigs of ram out of the system before I install the 64-bit Vista, for otherwise, I will *for sure* encounter this dreadful stop error? I am about to ins…

No changes were made to the operating system but the server started crashing a month ago every 2-3 days with the following error messgae: win32k.sys error page fault in nonpaged area I found the following article about this error that relates to Windows 2000: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q129845/ Is this relevant to 2003 64 bit SP1?
