The importance of antivirus and antimalware software
by Guest mlocke13- 0 replies
I want to promote awareness of how important it is to keep your antivirus up to date and running. I recently built a computer and made the mistake of not installing antivirus or antimalware right away. I would have avoided a whole mess of trouble if I had installed this beforehand! If anyone wants to know more about some tell-tale signs of Spyware and a virus infection, come on over to http://lockedinfo.blogspot.com/

Notification Area/System Tray
by Guest MagicJS- 0 replies

My whole Notification Area/System Tray has disappeared. There's not a single icon there when I boot up, just the clock. When I go to Taskbar properties, "Show the Clock" check box is there and working, but the "Hide inactive icons" box is disabled and the text above it grayed out as well. Could this have required a registry key change? Thanks in advance.

by Guest imlaseke- 9 replies

Hello, I recently upgraded my computer with a new motherboard and processor, but I kept my original two hard drives (one primary, one slave). Once the motherboard and processor was installed, I reinstalled windows xp. Prior to the upgrade I was running windows xp professional (32-bit) and decided to upgrade to windows xp professional (64-bit). During setup windows was able to see both hard drives. Windows was installed on the primary hard drive. Naturally, I had to reformat my primary hard drive, the second hard drive was not formatted. After installation I can only see the primary hard drive (C:). There is no icon or drive letter for the second …

Vista 64 Raid card issue
by Guest eliodeangelis- 0 replies
Hi, I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I am running a MSI K9n SLI Platinum motherboard and have set up a four drive RAID on it which I use for my software. I have also tried to add my Highpoint Rocket RAID 1720 PCI SATA II 2 channel controller Everything works fine except the Highpoint RAID controller. It has the latest bios installed, and it worked perfectly with Vista ultimate 32bit. Now, with Vista Ultimate 64bit, when I configure the RAID I get an error message saying: "no enough space to copy PCI Option Rom [00:00:00]" and "no enough space to copy PCI Option Rom [00:01:01]" can someone please help me?

Att. John Barnes!
by Guest Tony Sperling- 6 replies

John, I remember you used to be on a Modem Connection - apparently, you have got yourself something else since. What is that? Here, in Denmark the Power Service Distributors have started putting Broadband onto their power lines, it just needs 'copper', as I understand. I am about to be fed-up with the big city life and may seek out some property out in the big forrests somewhere and would like to gather some of the options in advance - I understand you are living in a not so densely populated area yourself? Tony. . .

For those eager, anxious, starving for SP1 news, go here: http://windowsvistablog.com/blogs/windowsvista/archive/2007/08/29/announcing-the-windows-vista-service-pack-1-beta.aspx and read all about it. In the meantime I can live quite well with Windows Updates, provided I exclude those ones urging me to update the NVidia drivers for my mobo chipset. Carlos

I get an error when trying to open any program that uses DirectX saying that DSOUND.dll is corrupt or missing. SFC confirms that it is corrupt but can not repair it. This is on Vista Ultimate 64bit. Anyone know where I can get a working copy of this file and how to go about replacing it?

Do I install .NET Framework x86 or x64?
by Guest mjs- 7 replies
Running on XP x64... Software I'm trying to install says it requires .NET Framework to work. Visiting Microsoft.com, I see that the latest version is 3, and that it is available in both x86 and x64 flavors. The software requiring it is 32 bits. Which of the x86 and x64 versions of .NET Framework do I install in this scenario?

Applications fail to load after chkdsk auto repair
by Guest Michael (from Holland)- 3 replies

My system with raid5 disks(3disks) 'crashed' yesterday while I was using Internet Explorer 6, visiting some dynamic/ajax enabled webpage, and clicking on an ajax enabled button. Trust me when I say it was this one that locked up my pc this way. Not that worse that I lost all my precious data... some tough luck huh :D I had to manually turn my pc off and turned it on again. After BIOS, the raid controller/bios came with its errors. I skipped the error message and started to boot xp. Chkdsk ran and recovered some free disk space (here the mess really begins, as I would find out afterwards). The problem now is, when I startup my pc, I get stuck with many a…

Trouble running trial version setup
by Guest Jay Wagner- 14 replies
Hi - this is my first post here. I am having trouble running XP Pro 64-bit trial setup. I had downloaded the ISO from Microsoft, and burned it onto a CD-ROM. Ran the setup from boot, and the setup program goes through its process loading the drivers and whatnot that is needed for setup. However, after it's done loading everything needed, the setup program reboots my machine - I didn't get a chance to choose where I wanted to setup the OS, or whatever. From what I can tell, the program reboots after the message "loading Windows NT file system" or something like that - can't be absolutely sure, as it only appears very briefly. I don't see any kind of …

Windows Support Tools
by Guest double-d- 2 replies

I'm using XP Home Addition, but felt my problem would be answered better in this group. I was looking around on my HD and saw a folder C:\Bundle, so I clicked on it. There were two folders in it titled "support" and "valueadd". I clicked on the "support" folder, which went to "tools" and then there was a few files. I clicked on the "suptools" file (Window Installer) and up came a MS Install Wizard. I had two choices in the installer of a "typical" and "complete" install. I decided to do a restore point just in case something went wrong, so I canceled out and made the restore point. Then I went back and did the "typical" install. After looking through…

Hello All, I'm running visa 64 ultimate on my 64 bit pc. Every single time I turn my computer on, I see the welcoming screen, windows opens...& then it freezes on me! Not even the mouse cursor works...it is unresponsive, the only thing I can do is to hold down the power button & turn the computer off. turn it back on again, reload it...& we're away! it works 2nd time (sometimes 3rd.) What's going on with my vista? An easy fix or critically damaged? Any one experience the same problem? Know how to fix it? Help me out someone!
