Is using 32-bit appz on x64 better than on x86?
by Guest Robin- 6 replies

Hi, I went x64 because of the benefits found in one of the major programs I was using. As it turns out, problems with plugins means I will be using the 32-bit version of this program on my x64 installation. In fact, most everything installed on my computer is 32-bits, because of various conflicts and problems. Am I better off switching back to XP x86, or sticking with with x64 and continuing to use 32-bits appz on it? Am I doing more harm than good hanging on to x64 when I'm not really using anything 64-bits?

Logitech Setpoint on Vista 64, install solution
by Guest Frobinrobin- 1 reply

I had a problem installing Logitech Setpoint 64 bit Vista version. Whilst I had searched the Logitech site for solutions none of them worked, I have found the cause and the solution ... this should even apply to some other software installations on Vista. Problem: Logitech Setpoint 4.0 for 64Bit Vista will not complete the installation. Cause: Admin rights not applied to the "correct" executable, due to unzipping of files to temp dir. Solution: 1) Run the Logitech Setpoint installer as Administrator This will unzip the actual installation files to a temp folder within C:\Users\UrUserName\AppData\Local\Temp\ 2) Locate the real installation files (search for s…

Downgrading to Windows XP from Windows XP 64-bit
by Guest Ryan- 2 replies
I have Windows XP Pro 64 bit and do not like it at all! I bought several pieces of hardware and software for audio production (M-Audio NRV10, Pro-Tools) which are not compatible with this OS, and wish to downgrade to the 32 bit version, or simply go right to Vista. If I do this, will I loose all of my data, or will the computer automatically upgrade/downgrade the OS so that all of my data is preserved? Ryan

Cannot run x86 programs
by Guest jaumann@gmail.com- 2 replies

Ok, so this is a weird one. It just sort of started happening out of the blue. My computer gets an IP just fine, but when I attempt to connect to the internet it won't connect. I did some troubleshooting and found that I was also having an issue with windows media player and my antivirus (nod32) crashing. I played around a little more and found that the x64 versions of these programs worked just fine. I am able to get online using the x64 version of IE, and my media player doesn't crash when using the x64 version. Now obviously since the x86 versions are the defaults this causes some issues and most programs don't see that they are connected to the internet (AIM,…

by Guest Scott R. Smith- 2 replies

Hi group, I have using the default Administrator login for quite some time. Once I created a user account, the Administrator account is gone for the login screen. Reviewing the help file I see the default Administrator account is intended for the set-up purposes. My question is how do I login to my Administrator account? Thanks in advance, Scott Smith

Re: Failure to connect to ADSL Router and thence Internet All set and done in my Dell Inspiron 1501 AMD Turion X2 64 Bit machine (loaded with Win XP 64 bit edition) when I connect ADSL 2+ UTStarcom Modem/Router with model numbered UT300R2U through USB, it just failed to install driver since it is not available. When I checked modem manufacturer's website (http://www.utstar.com/) no clue of driver download. ( this is first worst vendor web site I saw which doesn't have driver download link for their above device). Please let me know if you know any alternatives to fix this problem. Thanks in advance. I can't delete a folder on my desktop
by Guest 1800yolk- 10 replies

When I renamed a folder on my desktop, instead of typing in a word, I typed "Alt+255". This makes the text disappear. This also makes the file hard to delete. I can't delete the folder. In command prompt, if I try to delete it, it says "The syntax of the command is incorrect." I also tried "del *.*" in the command prompt, but this only worked for other things in the prompt. I'm not sure what to do, and would appreciate your advice. Thanks, Brian

I've found these two simple registry modifications in order to allow the right-click menus of: "Open Elevated Command Prompt Window Here as Administrator" http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/10/18/open-elevated-command-prompt-window-here-as-administrator-at-current-folder-directly-in-vista-windows-explorer/ and "Run Command Prompt Window as Administrator" http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/10/17/run-command-prompt-window-as-administrator-by-right-click-computer-in-vista/ Maybe it is a little OT but someone may find the info, and the reading, useful. Nero 8.1.1.0 is out
by Guest Carlos- 10 replies

wNero 8 is out. http://www.nero.com/eng/nero8-introduction.html Surprisingly the download is almost the same size - around 180 megs - as the last Nero 7. Downloaded the trial and installed it in a Virtual Machine running XP x86 SP2. No new apps found, no problems detected. Went back to Vista x64, made a system restore point, uninstalled Nero 7 and gave Nero 8 trial a shot. Rebooted as required. Nero SmartStart would not start (error). Other Nero apps would start but filled the event viewer with Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762" errors and something about WinSxs that I could…

Is it possible to change from 64bit to 32bit Vista?
by Guest Stian- 6 replies

Hi. I've bought Vista Home Premium 64bit, and tried it on my computer. But what I've learned is that some of the programs I need to use due to mye educational program doesn't support 64bit Vista. So, I wondered if it was possible to switch over to 32bit Vista without buying a brand new Vista product, which I just recently did(64bit). Thanks, Stian

Migrating to Windows Server 2003 64 bit
by Guest swapnil.kale@gmail.com- 3 replies

Hi, I'm migrating to a 64 bit Windows server 2003 box. Will my java client/server application successfully deploy on Tomcat? I got Eclipse 64 bit 3.3 version, JRockit 64 bit JVM and Tomcat 5.5 <32 bit, Though there is an option to run this as a service in 64 bit environment>. I havent installed them yet. I'm still searching for a good solution to do this task efficiently. I wish to run my codebase on Tomcat <Web project> through eclipse as a client server application. Will I need all the libararies <spring, oracle, log4J, xerces, xalan, etc etc> to be 64 bit pre compiled or those 32 bit binaries would just work perfectly in 64 bit envir…

I have excluded some programs by putting them in the exclude list. When I remove them with remove button & apply settings they all re-appear when I close then re-enter. How do I remove items from the exclude list? This happens even if I hit apply & re-boot. I also tried to remove them in safe mode, they all just reappear upon close & re-open

How automate to setting Priority and Affinity for specific apps.
by Guest Scott Smith- 5 replies
Hi Group, I have a very CPU intensive program((AutoCAD 2007)which is not a multithread app.), and I notice when I go in to Task Manager(on a Quad Core System) and set Priority to High and Affinity to CPU 2 and CPU 3, that I get better performance. However, currently when I change the above settings I do so each time I open AutoCAD. Does anyone of a way to have these assignments automated? My first thought was using command line switches for the icon, but I can't seem to find any help. Second question; does anyone have a link to all of the command line switches for non OS .exe's? Thanks in advance, Scott Smith

USB devices diplay

I'm wanting to reformat a USB external drive. I have just installed the 64bit Home Premium version of Vista on a newly built system and I guess I'm just going to have to ask some questions until I learn some things on this version. I want to use a USB external drive that currently is formatted in Linux. When I plug it in and go to 'computer', it shows Devices with Removeable Storage (3) and physically shows three devices; Drive D: my master DVD drive, Drive E: my slave DVD drive, and Drive F. However, when I right click on drive F, and then cklick on Properties>Hardware, it lists both of my DVD drives, my printer, my external drive, and both of …
