Hi, I am running XP 64bit on a dual AMD prcessor machine. I have tried many times but the following 2 updates will not install and they are marked as critical. Any ideas please? 1) Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 and Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 1 (KB933579) 2) Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0: x64 (KB928416)

Windows is not letting me log on
by Guest AceViper- 22 replies

I have been trying to move my boot partition off of my noisy hard drive onto a new quiet hard drive. I first tried copying and pasting my whole C: drive to my brand new SATA hard drive. after rebooting the system it had a hard time rebooting again. I had to go into bios and reset the right boot priority. it would not boot to the new SATA hard drive because i did not do it properly with the proper program. I did not want to delete what was on it to properly do it. so i wanted to use a smaller PATA HDD and used the Seagate program that came with the computer. I used a process that would take the boot off of the old drive and put it onto the transfering drive…

32 bi NetBIOS() caused RTC checks to complain under 64 bit Win2003

Hi The below routine works just fine on 32 bit Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003. But under WOW32 on a 2003 64 bit system the debug code (compiled with runtime checks) fails claiming that "Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'ncbO' was corrupted." Release version without the check seems to work ok but i want to debug. I'm using MSVC 2003 7.1.6030 and don't currently have time to convert the code to 64 bit. Here is the routine which purpose is to simulate use of "NBTSTAT -a computername" to check if a workstation is online. Netbios is after all considerably more reliable than ping. BOOL CheckOnline(char *p_szComputername) { NCB ncbO;…

tv and sat
by Guest Mike De Petris- 3 replies

I've been using a couple of tv cards for a long time with win2003 and xp x64, see "Successful porting BT848(btwincap) to Windows x64!" with Dscaler and KastorTV. Unfortunately these software are old and outdated. Now I moved home and have the possibility to connect to sat, and digital tererstrial television has been developed here in Italy. So I need the hardware to connect to: - analog terrestrial tv - digital terrestrial tv - sat tv - fm radio but with XP x64 what would you suggest? I do not think there is a single piece of hardware to do it, but even with more pieces I would like to avoid all the troubles I had with x64 and the old bt848, to make …

Something strange going on with Windows X64 Pro and Nvidia Network Controller.

Hello, When trying to send udp packets with a random payload size between 0 and 65000 windows only sends little packets ? The udp packets are not fragmented properly... at least according to ethereal... Could be a windows x64 stack bug, an ethereal/winpcap bug or maybe it's my program at fault. Really weird. Windows x64 Pro also the most crashy operating system so far, haven't tried vista yet though... only in virtual pc and even that was bad he ! ;) Bye, Skybuck

Media Center Corrupted Recordings
by Guest John Adams- 7 replies
Lately, two of my recordings (same show, same day of week, and same time) have come out corrupted. It has only been those two recordings (out of hundreds). When I try to play them I get a black screen and possibly an error message. If I click stop and try again enough times I eventually get the "Resume" option instead of "play". If I click "Resume" the video plays just fine unless I try again from the beginning. What is going on here? Is there a way to fix this? Is there a video editing program I can use to repair the recordings? - John

Windows Vista 64 bit compatibility issues.
by Guest James David Lee- 14 replies

I must admit to having looked forward to my new computer with the vista 64 bit premium oem OS. No problems with installing the OS but it's comaptibility of much of my software leaves much to be desired. My OS software provider gave this software a 5 out of 5 rating on its website and I thought this would be the best choice for my dual core 6600 intel chip. The machine is very quick with 4GB of ram (though the OS states I have only 3.99GB). Anybody no why? Even the bran new Registry Mechanic V7 software does not work with this 64 OS, and neither does the free DVDShrink3.2 software, both of which are very desirable to me. And as for the Olympus softwa…

Autoplay corrupted in XP x64
by Guest 512upload- 2 replies
I have tried everything: searching on the web for ways to repair this: with the gpedit.msc command, with programs to repair (Microsoft only has a repair autoplay program for XP 32-bit)... I even used my XP x64 CD to repair the installation and the autoplay function is not working. I have access to my DVD/CD drive, but for the USB flash drives it's worse: It's partially recognized by XP x64, because the 'Safely Remove Hardware' button appears and using 'manage' with right-click on 'My Computer' and going to 'Disk Management', the drive is there, but with no letter assigned to it and when I try to 'Change Drive Letter and Paths...', nothing happens. What …

I cannot believe my luck. So far everything's working. Adobe CS2 installed and updated without a hitch. I'd read somewhere that InDesign wouldn't work but mine does. And, as if that were not enough, I popped a Goo Goo Dolls DVD into the player and it works. I'll go away now and get back to my design task(s). I just wanted you all to know that new AMD OEM PC's are certainly up to the tasks of running Vista Ultimate 64 bit and I haven't had to go fishing for a single driver... Knock on wood... I'd rather fish for trout... Steve HP m8124n running the AMD64 processor Dual boot, Windows Vista Ultimate 32 & 64 bit 3 GB Memory, 500 GB HDD, HP w2207 Displa…

Print Server Migration 32bit to 64bit
by Guest jt- 4 replies
I have 300+ plus printers that need to be moved over to a 64bit 2003 Server O.S. What would be the easiest way to tackle this? Should I focus on importing all the printers to the new server and then go through the process of adding drivers for each printer? From what I've read, printmig.exe is not the correct tool to use for migrating from a 32bit os to a 64bit os. Would using printmanagemnt.msc from a Vista machine do the trick? I'm not sure how a situation like this affects end users, will I have to come up with a way to remap printers after migrating to 64bit version? Thanks in advance jt

windows 2003 server r2 x64 installation problem
by Guest Rob Saunders- 3 replies

I am attempting to load Windows 2003 Server R2 x64 Standard edition on a brand new server (2.4ghz Xeon processor with EMT64). I am using the version of software from the MSDN package. When I boot from CD and the options to install the O/S show up, I am not given a choice to load the x64 edition only the Standard edition with no x64 designation which I must assume is the 32bit version. I am wondering if I should see an x64 designation on the option screen when choosing to load the O/S. If I am, I cannot for the life of me figure out why I am not given this option from the boot/load menu. Is it possible that some other bootable cd must be made for thi…
