How to find new 'Patch Tuesday' patches?
by Guest Yoshihama- 9 replies
It looks like I made a huge mistake. Yesterday was 'Patch Tuesday' for October, and instead of carefully looking at everything that would be installed, I just opted for the express install. One reboot later, and now my system is hanging randomly. So my best guess is that I need to back out the patches (if possible), but I'm not even sure what the new patches were. Anyone know a good way to find the list of latest patches for XP64?

Running Windows Vista 64bit I receive a continuous warning message that "Host Process for Windows Services stopped working and was closed". I can see the service that is generating the message (wermgr.exe) , but I am unable to detect which program or update is causing the issue.

That was too easy... I took some good advice and chose to donate most of my HP rebates back to Bill for a copy of Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Perhaps some of you will remember my ranting and raving about how my new HP-OEM (m8124n) didn't come with the 64-bit DVD. Oh well, I got over it and tonight I installed Ultimate 64-bit without a hitch... I opted to let Vista Ultimate take some GB's from (C:) to create the new partition (J:). After 47 updates I'm live and this is my second transmission via mail... Sure, I haven't tested all of my hardware yet but hey, what the heck, I can always shut down and load x86 if I'm in a pinch for whatever aint workin'... T…

I cannot delete three, count them, three Nero 7 essentials entries from my add/remove programs. I have deleted all of the registry entries, to my knowledge, have contacted Nero tech support, but no luck. The entries are there without "change" or "remove" buttons. Please help. THis is restricting me from uploading Nero 8 ultra to my computer.

Inactivation of Windows Vista 64 bit
by Guest Eric Garrett- 8 replies
The very slightest of hardware changes has resulted in inactivation of Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit edition several times. Updating system BIOS, video graphics adapter BIOS, adding a new disk to a redundant array and extending the size of the system drive partition, etc., have all resulted in the unfortunate inactivation of Windows and subsequent failure to reactivate automatically requiring yet another call to the product activation center for a new product identification key. Although I certainly understand the need to protect proprietary rights, this has become an insurmountable effort and problem for Microsoft customer who pay for the products and ser…

Getting rid of an old bootable partition...
by Guest Homer J. Simpson- 18 replies

Hi all, I used to have XP 32-bit on my C: drive. Shortly after XP 64-bit came out, I installed in on D: and started dual-booting. It didn't take long after I've completed my migration that I started using x64 exclusively. My system's gone through a few hardware changes since then, but I've never bothered to reboot in XP 32-bit to install drivers and such. A while ago I did try to boot into XP 32-bit (can't remember why I would do such a foolish thing) ;-) but I found out at that time that my 32-bit installation was corrupted. I can't say I cared enough about it to try to fix it or even figure out why it wasn't functional anymore. In fact I'd pre…

Bass redirection solution for SoundBlasters in Vista
by Guest Carlos- 0 replies
Bass redirection is that beautiful feature that allows you send all the rich sounding lower frequencies to that ".1" speaker making those bass sounds deep and giving music you know, that "punch". From the very start with their Vista drivers, CreativeLabs crippled their control panels in the sense that the "bass redirection" option was no longer available. Lower frequencies were sent to the other tiny 5 speakers tending to give a "flat" sound. I've been searching for a solution for many months. The workaround, not the subject of this post, I had until today was mapping the speakers in Media Player Classic. Today I found this CreativeLabs application in the…

OT - Bloatware Nero 8.1.1.0b released
by Guest Carlos- 1 reply

Nero has a newer version 8.1.1.0b. http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero8-trial.php After a few days of having released 8.1.1.0, they now have 8.1.1.0b No changelog is available. Will they have fixed the massive sidebyside errors I had in event viewer when testing the trial? I will just sit back and relax, and keep running Nero 7. Who knows, maybe one of these days I will give John's Roxio a try. Carlos

Missing User Profile!
by Guest EvolovE- 0 replies

I tried to log in and I'm getting a message that the User Profile can not be loaded. No one has used my computer since I last shut it down. I'm using Vista 64 and I have 2 profiles, my main admin profile and my sons profile that is under parental control. My main profile is not loading and when I try to do any sort of admin function under my son's profile it asked for my password to get my admin rights, well that doesn't work. I can log into Vista 32 I have installed as a dual boot on this computer so I have some access but still limited. I'm looking for any ideas as to how I can resolve this issue. Thanks.

Minidumps available !
by Guest Skybuck Flying- 19 replies

Hello, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition has crashed many times the last year and two months. I have made available 27 minidumps that were made during the crashes ! Not all minidumps might be complete, sometimes I resetted the system because I didn't want to wait, so some minidumps might be truncated. Also the Win 64 Debugger doesn't show that much information but some command line tool did show much more information... which can be seen in the two output.txt samples. (Can't remember which command line tool it was, maybe output.txt has hints ! ;) ) I have uploaded these minidumps to my webdrive for you to download in case you want to improve W…

Installing windows 2003 64 bits standard server without R2
by Guest SinghRoc- 6 replies

Hello I am trying to install a windows server 64 bits standard server. I have serial number for both with and without R2. I don't want to install R2 when I install the server. Media kit that I have got has two CDs and it installs R2 when I use both CD. My question is, how can I not install r2 using my media kit or where can I get windows 2003 64 bits standard server with or without SP1 or SP2 (if without service packs, I can download and install service packs) Or can I still get media kits without R2 in it from market? Please let me know Thanks

Printer Server (64bit OS and 32bit Clients)
by Guest WadeBart- 1 reply

We have a new Windows 2003 Server (x64) that we want to use as a print server. When loading the printer drivers on the servers, it requires a 64-bit version. When a 32-bit client connects to the printer share it says it's the wrong version. Are we not going to be able to use an x64 print server for x86 clients?

Windows Media Player 11 Vista Ultimate x64 DVD will not play
by Guest cheese- 9 replies
From what I understand, Vista Ultimate 64 bit is supposed to have the codec to play a DVD. It doesn't work. When I try to play a copywrited movie DVD, the FBI warning sign pops up and a list of the chapters pop up in the side window. But when it's supposed to get to the menu, the following pops up: "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card." No movie DVD has ever played before in WMP 11. I can play a Princeton Review DVD from my LSAT study book but no movie DVDs play. I downloaded a free ver…
