I am a developer trying to write video for windows drivers for 64 bit vista/XP. I have written video capture vfw drivers for XP and vista32 successfully, but cant get the 64 bit versions to work correctly. To be more specific, Windows Media Encoder 64 bit edition sees my audio device but not my video device and they are in the same dll. Any kind of help will be very much appreciated.

Pearls of wisdom?
by Guest Hector- 5 replies
I am really interested in upgrading from XP to XP-64 since I do have a system that is able to support it. I read about the drivers or lack thereof and I think that the ony one I wont be able to find right away is the one for my Photosmart 1000 printer by HP. The question that I have is the following: Will I be able to re-install (from backyp) my Office 2007 suite? Will I be able to import my Outlook contacts? What about the WORD files or will it all be lost into thin air since they are different operating systems. What pearls of wisdom do you have to save me from a computer migraine? All your help is welcomed. Hector -- Hector

Do I need both Visual C++ redistributables (x64 & x86) installed in Vista x64? x64 package http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=eb4ebe2d-33c0-4a47-9dd4-b9a6d7bd44da x86 package http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=200B2FD9-AE1A-4A14-984D-389C36F85647&displaylang=en so that x64 apps written in Visual C++ (x64) can run properly and x86 apps written in Visual C++ (x86) can also run properly, BOTH in Vista x64? Do both redistributables coexist peacefully? I get the feeling that my failed Nero 8 trial installation had to do something about not having the x86 redistributable installed on Vista x64 (…

I recently signed up for the Windows XP Pro X64 bit edition. When I signed up I was sent a e-mail with the link, I can only download 558.6MB in Firefox and 459MB in Internet Explorer. I have a very high download rate and upload rate so that is not the issue. Any support would be great, thanks in advance!

Publishing VS2005 websites to Windows 2003R2 64bit OS
by Guest Vectorrx7- 0 replies
I just bought a new server and installed Windows 2003R2 64. I then moved all of the websites over to the new server and managed to get them all working properly. My problem is that I wish to update a few sites and I can't connect with VS2005. I keep getting the error about FrontPage extensions not being installed. It seems that Microsoft has discontinued the Frontpage extensions for this version of the OS and I am ok with that, but how can I get VS2005 to connect to this server to make changes to the sites? I know I could setup FTP but I would only set that up if it's the only way.

I have recently purchased a new machine with vista 64-bit and in the last couple of days when I try and connect to my ISP (dial up) it goes thru the usual process right up to "verifying user name and password", then I get a "error 1717: The Interace is Unknown. I have searched the microsoft site but can only find reference to this error for XP and some XP hotfixes. So far I have only added Office 2000 Pro to keep my family connected. Can anyone help me in why I am receiving this error on my Vista 64-bit box Thanks in advance.

OT - Foxit reader 2.2 freeware released
by Guest Carlos- 13 replies

For those who like this lightweight and fast PDF reader alternative, Foxitsoftware has released a new version 2.2. This is the author's page: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php Funny thing is that if you click on the Download option, you are redirected to the older v2.1 download. I have just downloaded and installed it from Majorgeeks here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Foxit_Reader_d4763.html If you don't trust majorgeeks then just wait for foxitsoftware to correct their mistake. Hi, One of my application written for x64 calls an API xyz which returns an error invalid parameter. Debugging the disassembly shows that the API checks the value of R13 register which is 0 and hence it returns invalid parameter. Does anyone know what R13 register is used for? Thanks, Varun

How to get from Vista Ultimate 32 bit to 64 bit
by Guest DougAtDCCADDdotCOM- 1 reply
I just bought a notebook with Vista Ultimate OEM (32-bit) loaded. Since it has the "Santa Rosa" chipset, I'd like to take advantage of 64-bit computing. From what I read, it appears there is no OS upgrade path and that I must purchase a full license. And the 32-bit OEM license is wasted since it cannot be used on a different computer. Correct? Is it possible (and legal) to purchase an OEM license of Vista Ultimate 64-bit for this system?

My system is only recogizing 2.9 GB out of my 4 GB of RAM with Vista 64. I installed Vista 64 only last night, and immediately recognized the problem. CPU-Z sees the 4 GB RAM. I am aware of this issue with the Vista 32, and was surprised to see it with Vista64. Am I missing something? -- MisterStrategy

I was running 1gig using 2 pairs of 256Mb matched modules in 4 slots and replaced the first pair with a matched pair of 1gig modules which gave a total of 2.5 gig. The system boots fine in safe mode but not in standard mode. I went through the boot from CD repair process (following the recover console option) but no change. Is there a boot.ini setting or other update required so the system will run under WinXP 64 bit standard mode?

File Encryption Options
by Guest Rabid man- 6 replies

I have been using Axcrypt for several years but it does not play well with xp64 and is a little buggy. I have been waiting patiently for an update but don't think its coming. To that end, I'm looking for on the fly encryption options. Axcrypt is great because its right in the right click menu - you right click the file you want to protect, select encrypt or decrypt and enter your password and that is all there is to it Are there any options to winxp64 encryption that are similar ? Truecrypt I believe encrypts a directory and all of that. Axcrypt is great because its so simple and quick to use.. any advice appreciated.. Best Regards, Randall

by Guest Robin- 3 replies

I have a plugin on one of my websites that requires Windows Media Player 11 to work. I recently switched to WinXP x64. When I try to install WMP11, it tells me 1) I am using Windows Server 2003 (not true), and 2) The highest version available for my OS us WMP10. Am I to understand that Microsoft isn't even updating WMP (of all products) to keep up with the 64-bit platforms?

System is a 2.6 Ghz AMD Opteron 185 4GB PC 3200 DDR 400 RAM 300GB HD and x1950 Radeon 512mb Video card. Is it as simple as setting it up as a dual bbot on a new partition? Do I …
