splwow64.exe causes RDP Sessions to Hang After Closing Application
by Guest vsoares- 0 replies

Hi! I have several users connected through terminal services to a windows server 2003 64 bit. When a user sends some document to printer and tries to close session it hangs for several minutes. After searching, i found some articles (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923357/en-us) pointing this issue. This occurs because there is a process (Splwow64.exe) that remains in memory for several minutes. This process is used to convert between 32 bit and 64 bit applications. This process remains in memory in order to increase system performance and unloads from memory after a specified time from the end of the last job. We can specify this time adding or ed…

Tcp1323Opts and Network Performance
by Guest cg_from_va- 0 replies

We are trying to improve DFSR performance over a long fat pipe... East coast to west coast 45Mbps circuit with 63ms RTT. To be able to fill this pipe with the 4 threads DFSR gives us, we need to adjust some TCP windows. We have done so, and need windows larger than 64K to make this work, so we enabled the Tcp1323Opts = 3 in the registry. We have Confirmed these settings on both servers, and rebooted (many times) and using Network Monitor we are checking the TCP headers to make sure things are getting set properly. We now see the TimeStamps option, but we never see a scale value for the TCP Receive window. The window seems to always be 64K. This is t…

DirectX End-User Runtimes (August 2007) available
by Guest Carlos- 0 replies

Dated Sept 7th., Microsoft released an update to its DirectX user runtimes. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=CB7397F3-0949-487B-9247-8FEE451BF952&displaylang=en This update is usually not required but, if some naughty game complaints about a missing dll then just go for it and install it. No reboot required. Game manufacturers should supply the updated dll's with their games but from time to time there is one that doesn't. I have found 2 cases so far and I am not an intensive gamer. Just a 60 megs download. Compatible with your favourite x64 Operating Systems. Carlos

I was wondering if anyone could point me to information or give their thoughts regarding "virtualizing" a Terminal Server 2003 farm onto a x64 Windows Virtual Server 2005R2 box. Currently we have (7) 32-bit TS2k3 servers in WLB cluster with about 300 terminals. The servers are on separate physical boxes. I'd like to consolidate those onto 1 or 2 64bit VS05R2 machines with lots of memory. -- Thanks, Don

folder view not holding ?Try this
by Guest Kue2- 0 replies
In my case when I click on start computer it always defaulted to the "tiles view" no matter what view I set which is mediums icons. To fix this try:change view to what you prefer then Now when you go to close this window do this: Hold down the Ctrl (Control) key and while still holding it down, use the mouse to click on the X to close the window. This is telling Explorer to save the settings of this window. This solved my problem. Hope this helps others....

vista 64 - Unsigned drivers
by Guest BENAGLIA- 8 replies
I have loaded Vista 64 X an I like the system and find it quite a few steps ahead of other operating systems available. On the other hand I am having quite a few problems with my CD/DVD devises (LG, Phillips) as their drivers are not accepted by Vista 64X. Can anyone help on this issue??? They are shown in the System/Device Manager list but both not working due to the unsigned driver issue. I have gone through the standard procedures but have not got anywhere. Both devices are new. Thanks for any help Andy

This problem happened on Windows XP x64 with Microsoft Office 2003. I didn't expect that the same problem would occur with the latest version of Windows and Office. Microsoft probably knew about this problem before they launched Office 2007. Anyways, I know that Microsoft Office installs a 32 bit icon handler for HTML files and under 64bit Windows, this doesn't work so that there's no icon for HTML files. How can I fix this problem? I've searched the Office news group for this problem and there WAS the same question for this problem but the reply was like the following: >There is an x64 newsgroup. >microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general > >-- …

Hello, I've a Windows 2003 x64 SP1 Cluster with 5 DFS Cluster resources (ca. 7000 DFS links) In the Eventlog there are a lot of 2021 warnings. The Server are installed with SP1 and the fix 924749 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924749/) The hardware is a IBM x330 Server with 2 Processors and 6 GB RAM. The processor usage is lower then 20%. The concurrent server session are 1133 session. Does anyone knows a solution for this scenario AndyL

Can't install XP x64 SP2
by Guest Mike T.- 4 replies

Hi, I'm trying to install XP x64 SP2 (currently running SP1), and I continually get the following error: c:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\51f9ddc99bdeac787cf18461eda3f2e5\amd64\update\update.inf is not correct. This is when I try to install from Windows Update. I've also downloaded the file and tried to install manually, but the same problem appears. After doing some googling, I saw that there may be an issue with the cryptographic service. I checked, and it is indeed running. For good measure, I restarted the service. There's no rights issue, since my user account has admin rights on the local machine (in a workgroup), and the Administrators gro…

Im planning on buying a new computer soon I need advise on a few issues before deciding my OS. #1). Does running a 32bit program in a 64bit OS use extra RAM-Ive been told (by an anon) source it doubles the ram usage? #2). Are nVidia's 64bit drivers stable enough to play video games? #3). Does Office XP run on either Vista 64 or XP 64? #4). Can I download and try either of these products for a few days before purchasing them?

Idea: Driver Manager inside Task Manager.
by Guest Skybuck Flying- 0 replies
Hello, I think the cpu usage of drivers and the drivers themselfes don't show up in the task manager. So the user is getting only a "half" picture of the system. The idea is to include a driver manager as well which shows all drivers loaded and possibly there cpu and memory, and bandwidth usage and such. Even task manager could be improved by showing bandwidth usage per application ;) This would give the user more insight in the system, know what's load and might help to track down bad drivers. Bye, Skybuck.
